This is one of the loveliest art galleries I know - acres of rolling Wiltshire countryside at Roche Court with over 50 pieces of sculpture in the Park - Anthony Caro, Laura Ford, Anthony Gormley, Laura Ellen Bacon's willow sculpture, Bill Woodrow and Richard Long to name a few.
Inside the award-winning Gallery and Artist's House, there's an ongoing programme of contemporary art, most recently Andrea Zittel's work, Barbara Hepworth's studies, and Edmund de Waal's exquisite ceramic pieces.
The educational trust runs a nationwide annual programme for 14-18-yr olds - ARTiculation - and regular workshops and visits for schools.

Amazing outdoor sculpture garden set in a tranquil valley with some innovative installations. The indoor gallery hosts some further exhibits and the Artists' House & walled garden are worth seeing.

Free parking, so makes a worthwhile detour off the A30.

This amazing outdoor sculpture garden is a must visit if you are in the area. The gardens themselves are beautiful and create a stunning backdrop for all the artwork, some by famous artists such as Anthony Gormley.

Beautifully set in Wiltshire's countryside and 600 feet above sea level this wonderful art centre, gallery, with a designer house and large collection of modern art is simply the best in it's category.
It follows, therefore, that any opportunity to visit the centre will thrill anyone with interests in modern art.
I have been most fortunate to have seen the art centre develop over the last sixteen years, and in that time witnessed the creation of the much acclaimed ARTiculation, a sponsored competition for young people with strong feelings for art. Together with these wonderful attributes and the enthusiastic members of staff, headed by the directors, I recommend visiting the art centre at any opportunity.

The art is much bigger than the photographs make them look, the pieces are updated regularly the gardens are fantastically well kept, it's a really nice tranquil place to walk for the day and it's free! I would have happily paid a fiver or more. Very very good experience.

Bit of a let down really. The sculpture garden lived up to our expectations however when we found out the items were on sale it changed our minds on the place. While I'm sure they're intentions are for anyone to come and enjoy the art, it's a private home and when you're unlikely to buy any of these stunning pieces, the atmosphere changes and I personally felt like I was intruding. There are no facilities other than outside toilets, no cafe, picnic area or shop and nothing in the local area either. But parking is free.

What a stunning setting to see modern sculpture in. The sculpture is first class by internationally renowned artists positioned throughout extensive and peaceful grounds. The staff we met couldn't have been more engaging and friendly. It is astonishing that this beautiful venue charges no entry fee although it is important to reserve a slot to attend and donations are gratefully received. The centre has extensive educational programmes with tours and events throughout the grounds.
Really can't recommend it enough for a few hours spent being uplifted by art and nature in these tough times.

I have been to Roche once before & fell in love with it's beauty & tranquillity. I couldn't wait to take my partner & not yet 2 year old son back there.
Unfortunately the place has been utterly ruined for us because of the nastiness of the owner.

We arrived at 10.45am & were in the grounds at 10.50. The entrance gates open automatically on arrival. We were enjoying a quiet calm walk in the grounds when a woman came out of the house and shouted to us that they were closed. She also let her huge Great Dane out who was bounding towards us. I grabbed my toddler son, apologised to her and slightly sarcastically asked if she really wanted us to leave now to then return 5 minutes later?
She repeated that the place was closed & it was her home & that the signs clearly say that it opens at 11am.
I then asked her to call her dog back as I am terrified of dogs & I am obviously clutching my young son.
Her reply was 'No'....
At this point neither me or my partner wanted to be anywhere near this hideous woman.
We left & the entire experience was very upsetting.

We'd travelled 40mins to get there. My partner is an artist himself. Her attitude, unpleasantness & utterly cold & unfriendly reaction just showed me that this art is not to be shared, is not accessible & only there for the elite. What happened to art being everywhere & for all?? Where was the welcome, human kindness & open heart??
This woman obviously does not have the first idea about art if this is how she lives her life.

Sadly, we shall not be returning.
However the place is beautiful & if you can avoid the owner (who ironically I suspect is only able to continue being there with the help of charitable trusts & the arts council) then I do recommend you go. Its free, beautiful grounds & great art.

Beware of the dog, the mad owner & getting there a minute before 11!!!!

Terrific afternoon out at the New Art Centre, it's a little difficult to find but will love it when you get there! Follow the sign for Roche Court, and it's just tucked in there with a free car park on the left.

Lots of different sculptural art from some big names including Peter Randall Page. There's also a small gallery with some nice paintings to enjoy. The whole place is free which is extraordinary, but they support a local charity so donations are appreciated.

There's no shop or cafe or anything like that, but a few local pubs around for a bite afterwards.

A tranquil garden and small parkland with a wonderful selection of sculpture, all of them for sale. There's a small indoor gallery and what's called "The artists' house" with a lovely light filled display area. No cafe but space for picnics, and there are toilets. Highly recommended.
