The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa Review

This was our fifth stay at this hotel. We love this place, especially the location. However this trip there were some problems. About half of the TV channels didn't work. After my shower I went to put the robe on provided by the hotel and there was hair on the inside from the previous guest. Tacky! For the price you pay per night these problems should not exist. The biggest problem (and the one that will keep us from returning) is not the hotel's fault. During the late evening hours, very loud motorcycles get their kicks waking up the hotel guests as they drive down Cannery Row. My wife and I were jolted awake two or three times per night by these morons. One as late as 2:00 AM. Other than that, our stay was very pleasant. The staff was wonderful and you can't beat the location.

Went here for a wedding in August. It is an extremely nice hotel. Valet parking was $22 for the day. It is right by the beach so the view is spectacular. Very nice venue for a wedding but a little pricey to stay.

Very nice stay, our balcony was literally over the water. I would recommend going during the spring or summer, it was foggy and cloudy when I stayed I don't think I got the best of the view.

This hotel is top notch. I got married here 11 years ago and the staff was very attentive and helpful.
Incredible views from some of the rooms, the lobby, plaza and restaurants.
My wife and I come back nearly every year to have lunch at Schooner's and the views and food are always good.
It is within a good walk of the aquarium and all the shops and restaurants on Cannery Row.

Friendly staff with great service. The view from our room was a bit obstructed but still beautiful. Could open the window and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks below. The toilet wouldn't flush and it took more time than I liked to fix but it did get fixed. Great location.

Big hotel. Clean rooms. Very helpful staff. Definitely plan on staying here again.

We had a great time at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was right on the water with great views and close to all the shops and the aquarium. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Ate at Schooners for a quick dinner, so I sat in the bar area. My waiter was very prompt and polite, as were all food runners. I just had water but their menu had a great selection of local/regional beers. Calamari was great, though not unique or stand out awesome. And the burger was huge. Loved every bite. Rumor: they have a club involving discounts for locals that may or may not be free. Fun fact: you can order from the lunch menu still at dinner, though you'd have to ask for the separate menu.

I had the best cooked fish I have ever had here. Also the tea was delightful. Loved my dinner.

Gorgeous property located on the water. The view from my bed was spectacular. The bed is incredibly comfortable and with the sound of the ocean waves, you will have trouble getting out of bed. Staff is top notch - professional, friendly and responsive. There has been entertainment in the lobby every day since I arrived. It is walking distance - right in the middle - of Cannery Row and Fisherman s wharf without being in the middle of it all. I highly recommend this property for business and leisure. I will definitely return.

The best view, very professional staff that should be getting a raise especially the front desk agents who don't get tips but are on the front lines with dealing with unsavory or entitled customers. The young lady Michelle was very helpful and looks like she has the skills to be a manager from what I saw.

This is the complete hotel; incredible accommodations, spa and the best service around. Worth every penny.

This hotel was spectacular, from the views to the rooms to the whole property. Also loved their wine tasting across the street and coffee place. Staff and service also excellent. 100% will stay here again if we return to Monterey, only hope we can catch a deal because it was sure pricey!

Beautiful scenery and one of the best views. No smoking on patio so don't even think about it! They have plenty of tables and a little outdoor bar area as well.

I did not enter Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa but it is obviously a very fancy, high end place. If I ever stayed at Cannery Row overnight I would definitely choose this place.

The best hotel you could stay at in Monterey. Staff is welcoming and helpful, rooms are kept immaculate and refreshed daily. The valet service is efficient and fantastic. 10/10

Unfortunately, we stayed in this beautiful hotel only one night. The staff is really friendly and helpful, the rooms spacious, comfortable and clean. Our room to the street was actually quiet, the 2-3x in which vehicles apparently accelerated at full throttle in front of the hotel, we were suddenly awake. Of course the hotel can not do anything. On a beautiful terrace overlooking the lake, the day can start well with a coffee. A small criticism, the room service wanted to clean the room 3x before the regular checkout, that was a bit annoying. All in all, definitely a highly recommended hotel.

Unfortunately we got the room on the first floor which we could hear all the toilets flushing all night.

The location of the hotel was great, directly off Hwy 1. The rooms were definitely old and in need of a reminder, but they were clean and we weren't bothered by the other guests. It was much cheaper than downtown options, so if you're looking for a cheaper motel on a nice quiet spot, come check them out!

Hands down the best Hotel and Guest Experience you are ever going to have. I stayed here for four nights, for Monterey Car Week. Believe me, I am staying again next year, and the year after that, and the year after that. The hotel, and staff are out of this world. Pele, the manager is awesome, and ensures in 100% Guest Satisfaction.....what more can you ask for!!! My favorite seagull, had coffee with me every morning. I love this hotel, trust me you cannot go wrong here.....BEST HOTEL MONTEREY by far!!!

We had a beautiful view and a wonderful experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room looked out into the ocean and we had about 10 sea otters we could watch at any time of the day. We will remember this experience forever.

A bit too pricey and limited food which is concerned in the decoration of the plate. In exchange you'll get a nice scenic view and great service. The clam chowder wasn't that good, it was missing something and was dull in taste.

I visited the hotel for my best friend's wedding reception, and every aspect of the experience was great. The hotel staff went above and beyond, treating her like a princess, keeping the afternoon on track, and even throwing in some freebies for her and her new husband when they stayed the night afterwards. The attention to detail and care for each individual is what impressed me most. One of my fellow bridesmaid's recently found out she was pregnant, so she made a discreet request for her meat to be cooked well done. Every staff member that passed seemed to have gotten the memo, and continually asked if she needed anything else and if her meal was cooked to her liking. What an awesome place to celebrate a special day!

Outstanding accommodations. The service is amazing. Dining in the Schooners was delightful and the food is of the utmost of quality. My only comment is that it would be nice to have a microwave in the room.

Got a partial ocean view room for honeymoon. Hotel was very nice and breakfast was delicious. The hotel includes binoculars. We saw sea otters from the window.

Absolutely outstanding service. All of the help staff was incredibly helpful. There were times they were so fast they beat me to my room. Even in the face of mischarges and mistakes, the Plaza quickly and easily resolved our issues.

There is a wonderful, affordable local coffee stop within the hotel which we visited every morning. The view from our free upgraded room was amazing and beat all the pictures online.

I will recommend this hotel to ANYONE I know visiting Monterey California.

The service was very good. We only had two problems - one with the toilet that was losing water and the coffee machine that did not work.

The hotel was great. Excellent ocean views. The location is fantastic too. You are walking distance from a lot of fun stuff. Hard to complain when you can wake up to a sunrise on the ocean!

I have been going to Monterey to have Breakfast dozens of times over the last few months. And this spot is hands down one of the top locations! The dining room sits right on the ocean... Literally! So that it feels like you are on a boat on the Monterey Bay (without the swaying & seasickness :)

The service is truly impeccable. And the view is unbelievable.

As a lifelong vegetarian, I wish they had more vegetarian breakfast options. Still even with their limited vegetarian breakfast menu they are still one of my favorite spots!

Plus, the staff is so excellent and accomidating that they will happily make anything they can, even if it's not on the menu!

First Class 5 Star Service with a smile!

This hotel is stunning....the employees were great....the views were beautiful....the bar was great....restaurant food & service over & beyond. I will forever make this my place to stay when I planning a trip to that area

Food was delicious, fish and chips are 5 stars for sure, also tried the swordfish BLT....yum! Great service and a really nice view...highly recommend!

For the day we were here the staff was friendly, rooms were clean and spacious, room service was quick and the food was good. The views were great hopefully we'll be able to stay again soon and enjoy the area.

If you're looking for the best of everything then you'll want to stay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa.

My room was facing the ocean, so it was more expensive than a room facing the street. The expense was worth it because the view was priceless. I watched the sunrise from the bed and it was beautiful.

The hotel has a couple of places to get food, but honestly you'll do well to travel to restaurants in the area. I recommend a hot coffee and danish while listening to ocean in the morning.

If you enjoy working out there is a very small gym. The free weight section is very very small, so stick to a cardio workout if crowded. The locker-rooms are large and the showers are private, but watch out for the crabs on the floor.

There are two outdoor hot tubs, but sadly they're not very hot. Even with the glass surrounding them the cold air will make you leave early on a windy day.

Enjoy the view and the convenience of being located in area with so much available.
