The March Hare is a really special little gastro pub, sitting just on the corner of the site of the old Guildford Castle. The food we had was impressive and a cut above a lot of the local pubs in the Surrey district.
I was initially over-charged for drinks, but the staff were helpful and rectified the situation courteously. We'll be back again.

A delightful venue with tables spaced well to give personal privacy and comfort. Service was faultless: efficient and well timed, without giving any impression of hurrying the customer. Food was delicious - we had starters and mains followed by coffee (no room for the fabulous desserts on offer!) - and the portions were very satisfying. Range of wine was impressive, but would highly recommend the house wine choice, which tasted even better than expected.... a superb complement to the food ordered. Thank you to all staff, whose efficiency and attention to detail made this visit memorable for all the right reasons! We will be back.... again and again!

Clean and safe with a great layout not as cramped as usual and staff very friendly. Food is always excellent here, we had a great meal all round. Very nice selection of ales and the kids loved the desserts. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality food in town.

My wife and I went for Sunday lunch, Sunday just gone. The staff were so good, so friendly, but sadly the chicken roast was awful, it had with out doubt been standing plated up for some time. There was a thick gravy tide mark around the plate, it was luke warm, the roast potatoes were totally dry, the cauliflower was a soft cold puree, the red cabbage was the same. I was very surprised and disappointed as pretty much all of the reviews for previous Sunday roasts were very good. I did not complain as I said the young staff were extremely good, hopefully this was just an off day. I really do not like giving this negative review, but it is an accurate account, sorry !!

Lovely atmosphere, snug and cosy for a busy place. Staff were excellent the food amazing. Extra bonus the alcohol was chilled as it should be. First trip to Guildford. Will look forward to coming back in Summer

Great set menu, very tasty food and a nice atmosphere. Good value on the set menu too. The service was incredibly friendly. It is just behind the main pedestrian retail zone so very easy to get to. It was very popular so I definitely recommend booking. I will definitely come here again next time I am in Guildford.

My partner and I had a really wonderful meal here. The staff were personable, professional and very attentive which puts you at ease as you feel you are in safe hands. The food has a great balance of flavours and I loved that they use seasonal produce. The atmosphere is bright and warm - we will absolutely be back for another meal. Thank you to Charlie and the team

We were recommended this place, by passer by when asking for a pub to eat at. Only wanting quick lunch type food not a dining experience.

Was pleasantly surprised.Food was served promptly for main and tasted delicious.Nice portion size too.
However, olives we had asked and paid for were forgotten and the time waiting for dessert was rather long and we had to ask in the end.
The staff were very apologetic and resolved issues promptly. The manager even offered us a glass of bubbly each.
Dessert was worth the wait.
Due to how situ was handled and tasty food,we will return!

Great pub. Shame you aren't made to feel welcome. I visited here with friends before going for dinner elsewhere. The pub was very busy and we initially stood at the bar due to no seating available. My friend has a keg injury which meant he wasn't happy standing. When a table became available we were told we couldn't sit there as it was for dinner and it was reserved. No dialogue by staff to establish how long we were going to be there or if we had any difficulties standing. We were ushered back to standing at the bar.
The food did look very nice but due to not feeling welcomed we not return as there is plenty of other choices in Guildford.

Once upon a time, Guildford on Sunday, used to be like a ghost town, thanks to the major chains those problems have been long forgotten, and every one could now enjoys and have a greater choice available 7 days on 7.
One of the places, that I just visited last Sunday is the March Hare, part of a White Brasserie (18 pub so far, from their website) which since 2015, has taken the space that, many years ago, used to be "Il Cambio" which under different management, occupied the building for long time, until one day closing, and following a long pause, and extended refurbishment, the March Hare finally entered the competition in Guildford.
2 course for 20 pounds or 3 for 25, is a good option for the Sunday lunch considering the quality of the product and the cooking, I had the melted cheese (St. Marcellin) with the toasted bread, similar to a brie, so quite rich in taste and calories as well, but once in a while it's ok, and is a starter portion, not a massive wheel of cheese, maybe next time I will have it just warmed instead, this one was a bit too liquid. To follow, was one of the roast of the day, a nice serving of 1/2 roast chicken with all the trimmings, I was tempted to order a few more sides, but thankfully I didn't, my plate was quite full already. The place was busy and buzzing with customers enjoying their lunch with the company of friends and families, everyone smiling around, everyone safe in their own bubble(thank you Covid-19) , with the dividers, between the different tables and sections, the kitchen sending plates and plates of food in very organised manner.
I finally had the feeling, that this place found the right way to go, and the warmth that had been missing all those years, yes was a beautiful restaurant, very modern, lovely design but very cold, in my opinion.
March Hare is a really nice warm place, and the food is very good. Thanks

Lovely place with friendly staff. Found it by chance when a restaurant we had planned to go to had no more tables available. All of us enjoyed the food, staff were attentive and friendly even though it was a busy Sunday lunchtime, service was fast. When we mentioned our children's nut allergy they immediately checked / confirmed the choice of dishes. Our daughter had a smaller portion of mussels, for which they only charged half price. Everything simply works well at the March Hare. We will come back when we are in the area.

We had a lovely impromptu meal at The March Hare. They had a great choice of mains for my gluten free girlfriend and she really enjoyed her risotto. I had the beef bourginuone which was fabulous. I only had to waft the knife in the vague direction of the meat and it fell apart. The only downside was that the sweet menu was a bit limited, but that's fine because we didn't need the calories anyway!

Probably the best restaurant in Guildford. Handled our booking for eight people, all ordering a la carte, with ease. Food was very good on the whole. Chateaubriand was tiny though, and I'm not someone who needs massive portions. Bit of a More

Popped into The March Hare for a midweek late lunch. It wasn't that busy and the service was very good.
Just as important was the food, and we weren't disappointed. Decent sized portions and delicious.
We certainly recommend dining at The March Hare.

I have been to the March Hare a number of times and always found it to be great. It looks like a pub that serves food but in reality it is a restaurant that looks like a pub. The food is top notch. I recommend the crab starter and the fillet steak for the main course. All the deserts look good. Staff are friendly and helpful. The decor is that of a high quality pub and the atmosphere is warm. Located in the centre of Guildford it is easy to get to.

Excellent decor and well appointed. The staff were very accommodating, as we hadn't booked, and fitted two of us in. However, the menu was overly fishy and the steak & ale pie was a bit pretentious and in separate dishes rather in a single plate with a gravy boat. S.G.

World Class Experience

World Class Experience
Visited on 4th December and whilst many venues are cutting corners and costs, The March Hare (MH) was delivering excellence. The food was out of this world and my hats off to the chef for the chicken liver parfait and a fillet steak which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The front of house team worked very hard and were brilliant (especially Nick) and it is visible to see that the venue is managed brilliantly from the front. Danny was fantastic in the lead up/reservation and Charlie who delivered on the day was professionally and personally welcoming and had her finger on the pulse through the visit. MH is the leader of the pack and if its a great experience for families, date night or friends get together then I would look no further. Make a booking and make memories - well done team MH

Had a Christmas lunch here. Food was good except the pork came with stale pork stretchings. They did replace it after it we raised the issue, but unfortunately the replacement was still stale. Credit to the server, but kitchen needs to keep a close eye on freshness of food.

Great atmosphere and service. Makes for a lovely family treat. Very noisy especially near the bar area which can make conversation difficult. Shockingly expensive. Food is of a high quality full stop booking essential.

What an amazing find. Lovely brasserie/pub with fantastic food and friendly attentive service. Went there for an early dinner with my partner and our two year son. One of the best evenings we had in a while. Will be returning again and again and again.

Booked for my sisters birthday on Sunday evening and wasn't sure what to expect because we had never been before. We all had a fantastic time and all said we'll definitely be going back. Staff were brilliant. Even though they were busy they looked after everyone. Can't wait to go back.

Initially liked this place. Has a nice cosy dining room, warm atmosphere. Service was initially good. Food unfortunately has gone down hill. Quality of many dishes falls short of average. Recently service really falters when they are busy especially.

First visit to this gastropub only a few steps away from Guildford's main shops and I shall return. Went for a late lunch on a Saturday and, although it was busy, was able to get a table after 5 mins. Good and varied menu selection and very good food to match it. The cheese souffle starter was light and just right, and the duck confit suitably plentiful. Excellent and friendly service from staff.

Great service and tastey food. On the whole every meal I've had is very well flavoured with some good taste combinations. Service has always been very good and is far more attentive than typical pub. Good atmosphere also. Recommended.
