AVOID AVOID AVOID. Terrible, theft-like experience... I got a flight + hotel deal from Expedia and my conference was cancelled. They did not reimburse -- and I'm out of pocket a thousand dollars (with the flight $1500). They have completely unsympathetic front desk and management. Bad business. Truly. Shady. The information was not at all clear at point of purchase. They took ALL of the four days' stay. Expedia blames Keating and Keating blames Expedia. (Don't use either).

(Below they say this was steeply discounted -- in fact I paid more than the rate posted here, by a significant amount).

Great location. Staff at front desk were friendly. The room was "interesting". Bathroom only closed off by a current. Toilet area door slides close, but not fully. No carpet in room. The best part by far is the great location. Park at the Park it on Market garage. Stay at hotel and everything is walking distance from the room. And your room is close enough for quick stops back to freshen up if needed.

Lovely loft room overlooking the Gaslamp Quarter. I was here on honeymoon and the staff couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome and provide recommendations etc for local bars and restaurants. Highly recommended!

Excellent location. Fun design. Excellent service. Some of the amenities are a little dated and we had to change rooms in the middle of the night due to a very loud noise coming from the rooftop cooling system

AWFUL !!!!

AWFUL !!!!
The experience starts from the night club-like lobby and continues up the stairs with an unpleasant smell that follows you to your room.
We are given the penthouse which is presumed to be the hotel room of excellence and instead we are pleasantly disappointed when entering we find the shower and the bathroom sinks in the usual bedroom of the bedroom, separated only by a curtain.
The unpleasant experience continues during the night where a constant noise coming from the huge ventilation fans of the building next door does not make us sleep.
During the night we receive two pleasant alarm clocks, the first at 4 with a deafening screech coming from the shower pipes of the room next door and another at 6 o'clock from the fire alarm triggered for no reason. Hotel without service from 11.00 pm as no one is present at the reception.

Good location. Great shower, but a lot of water leaks out onto floor. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff. Noisy refrigerator, had to unplug. Full disclosure, I'm sensitive to noise at night. Oddly heavy remote control for TV. Cheap feeling towels. I would stay there again.

This hotel was the worst I've stayed at in San Diego. I travel there often and picked this to try s new place and because it's in the heart of gaslamp. While the room looked nice, it was disgusting. There was no soap, the shampoo/conditioner was empty and the shower gel was a half used bottle from the previous occupants. The headboard had sticky marks and hand prints all over it(gross). The showers were extremely cold, I only took one because it was so miserable. The worst part though was the noise. Our room was next to the housekeeping staff room and they slammed the doors/drawers and carts so loud we woke every morning, the noise went from 7:30-9 so there was no chance of falling back asleep. When I told the front staff the woman said we'll I don't know what I can do (tell them to not slam things around perhaps?) Then she said 'well I'm friends with my manager so maybe I can do something' and did nothing and the noise was just as bad for the next two days. For the price is was totally not worth it, spend your money on a nice hotel like indigo or omni, they actually have clean rooms and competent staff.

Location was perfect if you are looking to use transit there! It's also very lively at night and you can grab food pretty much on any corner.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you are a light sleeper and wish to sleep before 2am. Thank god for noise cancelling headphones because you can hear every song that is playing in the pub on the main level of the building and that was the worst part.
When I spoke to the manager and staff about the noise, they were pretty skeptical about how much noise you could hear, especially since we were on the third floor! So please make sure your room is on the opposite side of the pub!

The shower head in our room was leaking a lot unless you held it at a certain angle and when we talked to house keeping about it, she said there's nothing she could do! There's also a lot of water that sprays out when you are showering cause there's no door to the shower.. haha

Overall, this hotel wasn't for me but the history of it is very cool and it's a great location if you are partying!

The prices are a little bit too high, but the hotel itself, the design, and the staff and service are all top notch. I felt like the room was a little bit too small for us and a bit too close for comfort, but still it was a pleasant experience overall. I am also shocked about how people actually believe in TV too much.... it is just entertainment

If this place was around in the late 70's the Shining would have been filmed in it. I admire the extensive use of mirrors throughout the room. Who doesn't need mirrors in front of the toilet, in the shower, above the bed and in the space egg time machine contraption. Best I could figure was the mirrors were so you could see all around for safety, I felt I was too close to being raped the entire visit.

Awful hotel, booked through hotel tonight and had a higher expectation. They gave me and my partner a double bed because everything was booked. Valet was $40 dollars and the coffee didn't include creamer or sugar. Room was noisy at night. The bass from the music downstairs has our room shaking. Never coming back.

Incredibly disappointing. The hotel claims to be luxurious, but it's sort of like the person who drives an old banged up Acura and expects you to be impressed. There were all sorts of "design" pieces that just didn't work. The faucet handles in the shower were so tiny and covered in hard water build-up that I literally couldn't turn off the water without having to wrap a towel around the handle and putting all my weight on it. And for some inexplicable reason, and in spite of a seven year drought, they replace the towels daily. The entire room was grimy. There's no lamp on the nightstand (and there's only one nightstand, God help you if you have two people in the room who need a place to put their glasses), and the light switches are by the door, which means you'll be using your phone as a flashlight to navigate back to the bed when you turn off the lights. Concrete floors mean you'll get no sleep if the guests in the floor above you have high heels.

And don't even get me started on the highly misogynistic video that plays in the lobby. Since when is it okay for a strange man to follow a woman down the hall, unzip her dress without her consent and then pull her into his room?

On the positive side, the staff were friendly.

The hotel is up to expectations, nice and very modern in the inside and a very classy and historical on the outside...but there is too much red that hurts my eyes, especially in the lobby

Would definitely come back but the red is a bit outrages, the last time I came was white walls

Solid hotel with contemporary rooms and incredibly helpful and friendly staff. The location is perfect, with the heart of downtown just a few blocks away. The halls feel a bit gloomy, but for the rooms and service, could not find a better spot for the price in downtown San Diego.

The staff was very inviting and they are the only reason for the second star. Other than the staff this could be the most unfriendly designed hotel which has made poorly. With so many other options in the area stay somewhere else.

Disgusting, dirty, fees galore. Pretty close to the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Don't waste your time trying to check in early unless you want to spend an extra $50 for that luxury.

If you aren't booking through their site, be prepared to spend $25 per day. This fee is for room service, wifi, towels. You know, all the usual hotel amenities.

Rooms are disgusting. Everything is dirty and stained.

There is no shower door, so water gets all over the floor.

Lighting is on a ridiculously overcomplicated, unintuitive switch & button system.

Walls and floors are paper thin. Be prepared to be kept up late by the pub downstairs. After being kept up by the bar, expect to wake up to the sound of the person above you walking around.

Everything about the TV is trash. Why does the remote weigh 3 pounds?

No plugs accessible from the nightstands.

Elevator certificate expired in August 2018, my stay was in November. It's also just a terrible, smelly, slow elevator.

Location of The Keating is perfect but the design of the rooms is a little bit odd. If you are a light sleeper then it definitely would not suite you as the nearby venues are very noisy throughout the night.

Yikes. Feels very brothelish.... I booked rooms for a conference and I didn't live it down with my boss. The red velure, red indirect lighting, mirror on the ceiling in the bathroom... It was just a bit wow. The location is pretty ideal and the staff are friendly, but overall the place just felt a bit tired and dirty. I would not recommend staying here.

Very interesting decor by Pininfarina. It's like traveling in time to the stuff the was cool in the 90's and early 2000's. Huge open space rooms with Bang & Olufsen TV & sound system and an open air rain shower. And of course, a Lavazza expresso machine.

This is to make up for the fool that rated this hotel 1 star when he never went to this hotel in his life. It's completely appalling to provide an unjust rating given the fact that you have not experienced an ounce of the services that they have to offer.

The hotel was fine enough. The bed was nice and the place was clean. The elevator sounds like it might give out at any second and the bathrooms are pretty terrible. It was also really loud during night time. Staff was super friendly though!

This is a spot for people who want to be fully submerged in the gaslamp nightlife. It's not quite or impressive. Rooms are cool with a contemporary vibe. Windows open completely which is dangerous.

Not suitable for kids.

The hotel and room smelled bad. Bath soap dispenser was empty and shower was cold. Bathroom fixtures were worn, broken, or in need of replacement. If you have trouble sleeping with blue/red LED's shining from various devices you will want to bring something to cover every speaker, espresso machine, TV, CD player, etc. They also charge a surprise resort/ boutique fee.

I highly recommend this place to anyone! Every time my husband and I come to San Diego, we always make sure to stay here at the Keating. The service is excellent, the rooms are updated, and have a very great feel to them. Checking in has always been a breeze, the workers are always incredibly friendly, and my husband and I always have a blast downtown. It's a great location with plenty to do within walking distance. We've never experienced any problems with this place during the 5+ times we've stayed here in the last 2 years. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

The rooms feel like waiting rooms, not comfortable at all, they should have kept it the way gordan left it. The owner clearly doesn't care about his guests. Only cares about himself. Not worth the money at all. Only stay here if u dont want to be comfortable.
