The Hyde Collection is a historic house and art museum located in Glens Falls, New York. The museum features an impressive collection of Old Masters, 19th century European and American art, as well as modern and contemporary art. The museum is housed in the former home of Charlotte Pruyn Hyde and her husband Louis Fiske Hyde.
The history of the museum dates back to 1912 when Charlotte Pruyn Hyde inherited her family's estate in Glens Falls. She was an avid collector of fine art and began acquiring works from some of the most renowned artists of her time. Her collection grew over the years, eventually becoming one of the most significant private collections in America.
In 1952, Mrs. Hyde established The Hyde Collection Trust to ensure that her collection would be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Today, The Hyde Collection is a non-profit organization that operates as a public museum.
Visitors to The Hyde Collection can explore over 4,000 works of art spanning several centuries. Some notable pieces include paintings by Rembrandt van Rijn, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent and many others.
