I gave this place a shot after reading some good reviews here. I was aiming for good and fresh seafood. I had the monkfish and snails as my starter/appetizer and sea bass as my main dish. I was disappointed. The monkfish itself was good but the sauce they mixed with it was too salty. The sea bass was one of their most expensive dish in the entree list. It came only with the fish. A lot of oil was used to pan fry it and it was too salty as well. I like strong flavor but this was definitely overdone. Overall, it was not easy to find a seafood restaurant with good reviews in London. I went to J Sheeky as well. I guess seafood is not London's strengths in general.

What a fantastic gem of a place. Got very lucky wandering in off the street on a Saturday evening as there was a table for me and my mate available. A lot of people chanced their arm after and were told to come back later. It's a small venue in the middle of a new upcoming exciting area of Manchester. Skin on fries were awesome, lamb goulash pie made fresh in store that day with excellent pea fritters in a wonderful flavoursome batter washed down with a beer. All covered in gravy (except the ). Staff were very friendly and just all round excellent. I don't know if you book a table but if I go back I may look at doing just that.

Best Fish and Chips with a twist in Manchester! Had the Feastie Boys off the main menu and it was perfectly cooked and a pretty decent portion size, got close to finishing but it bested me :) Washed down with a Barrs D&B, couldn't ask for more and the service was top notch.

Great twist on fish and chips, and the gluten free option went down very well with my better half. Loved the beer selection, variety of salt flavours and real life social media counter, not to mention top quality tunes (not just hip hop, bit of Four Tet too)

Not sure why there is anything less than 5 star reviews, for me, this is my favourite food place to eat in and take out in Ancoats. Food is always amazing and the only chippy that tastes just as good the day after!
Service and food are always tip top at the hip hop chip shop =)

Great food with good portions, we had the battered sausage, the fish and some battered halloumi. Food was great and very good value.

We actually ordered two mains and two sides initially and the lady serving told us that might be a bit much and we might be better sharing one side and ordering more if needed. She was absolutely right as we were stuffed with just the one side.

Restaurant is cosy with lots of old school hip hop paraphernalia on the walls and old school hip hop playing in the restaurant (obviously).

This is definitely a step up from the old pop up in Spinningfields and well worth a visit. We'll definitely be back to try more of the side dishes in the near future.

Saw the Hip Hop Chip Shop on Buzzfeed's series "Worth It UK" I travelled across the ocean for this place and it was my first time having fish and chips in England. All I have to say is...WORTH IT!

Yummy!

Quantity of food was good and the service was good, but everything was overcooked. The batter on the fish had burnt patches and the chips were dark brown rather than golden brown. Far from a pleasant experience.

Service was great but food was pretty disappointing and very expensive for the standard. I don t mind the price if it means good quality! Cheap fish, horribly thick batter, blended mushy peas (?) and cheap condiments. Overly greasy and stupidly big portions. More focus needed on quality over quantity. Cool place and nice staff but sadly, wouldn t go back.

Wow! I was extremely impressed with this establishment. The chipper has been successfully invented in a hip trendy indie kinda way. Cool comfortable dining space. Excellent servers. Fair prices. And OMG, I think this was perhaps the best fish and chips I ever experienced. Curry batter was exceptional. Sorry waits inspire of a full dining room. Really deserves more than 5 stars

Absolutely, hands down, the best fish and chips. Been before when it was a little trailer at media city and the quality has only improved since moving to a permanent site. Worth going out of your way for.

We hired The Hip Hop Chip Shop to provide the evening food at our recent wedding in the Lakes - and we're so glad we did! Ozzie and the team were a pleasure to deal with the whole way along - and on the day, our guests were delighted when they pulled up at our venue. The van looked really fun, the service was warm and friendly and the food....DELICIOUS! We heard the phrase 'best fish and chips ever tasted' several times. Thanks so much Ozzie and team for being such a brilliant addition to our wedding! x

All I can say about the Hip Hop Chip Shop is WOW! They came to our office for our Euro 2016 England vs Wales screening to cater for just over 200 employees. The trailer, accompanying music and food made to order was just brilliant. The day was a huge success and everyone loved it. Ozzie and his team were amazing thank you so much. Lauren from Zuto

We hired the Hip Hop Chip Shop to provide the catering for the evening of our wedding. We chose a vegetarian menu and were so impressed with both the food and the service. We had comments from the guests on how delicious the meals were. All the communication with Ozzie made the organisation easy and we would highly recommend using these guys!

Was craving some comfort food so got takeout with the wife. The food was excellent and the portion size was almost too much! We couldn t finish it all so had it for lunch and then again for tea. It was like 2 full portions each time.

The fish was great, perfectly cooked with nice thick, crispy batter, the chips and fried gherkins...unreal.

Amazing chip shop with a twist and great vibe! Food fit for a wedding... Thats why we had them do ours! Every guest LOVED it! If you like something tasty and different go here!!! If you like your sausage just the way you had it for the last 100 years (with no great music) stick to your local chip shop!

Good theme and service, however the actual food lacks, especially for the price you pay. Fish is okay, but the different types of chips don t taste any different to one another, the Bombay chips are incredibly salty. Onion rings are also very greasy and over battered. The gravy is very runny.

I had the 'fat butty' as did a friend. Mostly well executed. Great chips, bread and peas. Some of the fish however was a bit on the mushy side suggesting that it wasn't the freshest. The batter however was crispy and not overly greasy. More

What a loverly place to find. The name says it all but they will have to add a few more errors as the food was brilliant. I just loved the fish and chips that I had and with a beer as well. What was there not to like. There are so many places to eat in Manchester and some of them are good, some of them are not so good and places like this that are so much better than you ever expected. I will be coming back here again and again. Well done.

One of the best fish and chip shops in Manchester! Fish biters and hip hop, what more could you want?
I have followed these guys from Kitchen takeovers in kosmonaut, to their own shop, deliveries during lockdown and drop-offs at Cask. Large portions, great value for money and tasty food. A great date and a unique family pleaser! You will not be disappointed!

Loved, loved this venue. It's small but mighty. I had the jerk fish plate which was amazing, would highly recommend. The nutela cheese came for dessert was also lush. Staff were very friendly. Can't wait to go again.

Great place with epic portions of food. Atmosphere, tunes and staff are a pleasure.
Not an "English chippy" in the sense of fish, puddings and pies....its more of a vegan based menu with fish alternatives and homely skin on chips. The chicken burger was amazing and I would highly recommend. Washed down with a session IPA you'll be good for nothing in the afternoon

Worked with The Hip Hop Chip Shop on a recent event to launch a new fashion collection to press and bloggers. We received so many compliments on the amazing food and cool laidback venue (The Kitchens). Ozzie and his team couldn't have been more helpful - they were very flexible and forthcoming with ideas and even created bespoke menu options and drinks for us. Thanks guys - will be back to see you for your incredible food again soon.
