My experience is with St. Anthony Care Center in St. Anthony Village. SACC is a beloved institution in our community. Unfortunately, the last 5 years has led to a steady decline in care & quality of life experience in our community. There are a handful of professionals at Chandler & SACC that say what they do and DO what they say but the NEW Executive Director is aloof and ineffective. Quoting Corporate Mission Statements when faced with unsatisfied residents is not helpful. Rehabilitation is the money maker so short term guests get the updated space and multitudes of resources while those residents making the place their home are left upstairs sitting in their urine with broken furniture, dirty ceilings caked with dirt & dust along with unhappy aides wishing they were anywhere but there.
The process is backwards. People that are residents should be given the beautiful dining room, the private rooms with pretty wallpaper and drapes to match. Let the short term rehab patients and income pay to improve the life of those who require full time care.
The physical therapy staff are unrecognizable as they wear Street clothes rather than color coordinated scrubs that signify a credible department. It would be very helpful to family & residents to have uniforms and the color have significance. For instance...red for physical therapy, White for memory care, yellow for general long term care and navy for those caring for rehabilitating patients. How would one know which individuals are from the volunteer services or activities staff. Name tags are NOT consistent with any department and those that wear them are difficult for older people to see. The only people that should wear street clothes are administrators, guests & patients.Nursing Directors or Leads should be in white coats along with physicians.
Something MUST be done about turnover. The Goodman Group should be incentivizing long term service rather than giving signing bonuses for starting a new role. The current policy encourages aides to job hop. It is in their best interest to move on, rather than stay and invest in our community. The community is ripe with volunteers but there is little effort to recruit from the community. There is an OLD family group that meets monthly but new membership is discouraged by leadership that was appointed for life.
I m sorry that an institution of long standing is struggling. Who will step up & make a difference?
