Classic haute cuisine. Beautiful selection from the menu and a set menu. The mussel soup was delicious and the salmon starter was very popular. Wine list is extremely extensive with Latour's and Rothschild's included, and the cheeses are excellent, too. The service is impeccable. Staff are great.

First time back for a while and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only reason not 5 stars was the duck, for which the restaurant is well known for, was a little on the dry side. The service and ambience were 5 star.

Another warm welcome from the manager and staff when my wife and I arrived (by canoe!) for a mid-week lunch. The ambience, service and food were a delightful accompaniment to a lovely early Autumn day paddling on the River Thames from Reading to Sonning. We look forward to visiting again soon.

I love this place! They serve good food, their menu is nice, The cook in that spot is a real pro, I love a lot tasting all their dishes. The food is always of high class, the attitude towards the guests is very good too. I go often to this place and I not even once was discontended. I recommend it to all my friends.

Aperitif by the fireside with the ducks that cook over the flame.
Restaurant room with a view of the lake!
Menus around 30GBP and approximately double the menu!

Nice, but not unforgettable!

The first impression of this 3 star hotel is one of elegant charm, however the interior does not match up to the exterior and is quite dated. We paid top price for our top floor room and were very disappointed with the decor (filthy wall above the radiator). The bedside table lamp all but fell apart and in the bathroom, the cold tap was not secure and the electric shaver point was out of action.
Breakfast is an oddity. The policy is room service, but how one is to eat off a coffee table leaves me mystified. As we were a party of six we wished to eat together but the dining room is out of bounds as cleaners attend at 09:30 so breakfast was taken in a rather cramped bar area. The breakfast itself (pre-ordered the night before) was of excellent quality.
We felt very much short changed over our stay and especially as we could have had the same room at two thirds of the price had we not booked directly with the hotel. A lesson for us and others perhaps. Use a comparison site.
It must be said that the staff were excellent but a hotel that is unmanned over night leaves me a little concerned. We will not be returning.

The French Horn has a family link to my family back to my grandfather who had his honeymoon there. My children took me there for lunch today, it was truly outstanding. You have to try it for yourself.

I went to the restaurant for the sunday lunch menu (65 quid per person) and was quite disappointed with the food, which was a bit tasteless. The service was quite bad and slow. We didn t get the wine list and it took forever to order dessert and to bring the check. Location is quite nice though. I would not come back even for half of what they charged... terrible value for money!

A chance discovery. The food and the service were very good. The seasonal menu was reasonably priced. There was plenty of car parking and the surroundings both outside and inside were very pleasant. Highly recommended.

I have visited the French Horn many times and always found the food to be excellent. The service is wonderful also. This restaurant is old-fashioned and all the better for it, no generic contemporary decor or square plates here. The food is better than in leading London hotels and portions are generous. Highly recommend for a date or a family occasion. Have only visited in evenings, Saturday is the best night.

Situated on the river bank with lovely views of lush lawns, willow trees with the fast flowing river in the background. Felt as though we had gone back in time. Lovely service, good food and a wonderful wine selection. Highly recommend.

Genuinely the best meal I have had in a long while, sand something I'd never tried before- sole caprice. Dover sole cooked with banana and a chutney. Absolutely stunning and everyone involved made us feel really welcome. I can't wait to go back.

We stayed in the French Horn for our wedding anniversary for two nights. When we checked in and got sent to the room we noticed a huge spider and a bunch of dead flies around the room. The windowsills were all dusty and had dead flies and wasps on them which gave me the impression the room was unoccupied for some time. The next day it was all cleaned and sorted which was fine. The bathroom was lovely although it was a little bit dangerous that the bath had no non-slip at the bottom as it was a shower also. It was quite slippery once wet so was quite worried. The breakfast was pretty standard, a choice of eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato and mushroom- that's all. On the first morning they completely forgot to put eggs on one order so had to wait for the whole breakfast to arrive. The bed was nice and it was a gorgeous view. Overall it wasn't too bad but for the amount they charged I expected a little bit more. It was nice but don't think we will stay again.

Incredible restaurant. Everything perfect down to finest of detail. I ate spit roast duck and it was the best duck I have ever eaten. My partner had Dover sole and said the same. We stumbled across the place, but we will be making any effort to re visit.

Great experience overall, the gent at the door gave us a very warm welcome, sat us down and the food is amazing, the beef and lamb are delicious! The service team did let the experience fown a little as their response time were slow and when we asked for things they were extreamlly slow. I was tempted to give them a 4 star review but the food and the gent who greated usvwere so great I ended up giving them a 5 star! Will visit again in the future

Simply the most enjoyable dining experience. Michael and his team create a wonderful welcoming atmosphere and the food created by Josi and the kitchen crew is first class. A great place to go for a treat, with views across the immaculate gardens to the river. I shall be back at the end of this Friday for more.

I was on solo kayak trip from Abingdon to London on Thames, camping wild and fancied a meal. I was told about this place by some local. You can boat, kayak right up to the restaurant, hotel. So I parked my kayak.
These people were very friendly, it is a very posh place, and I was looking a bit rough. They let me charge my phone and served me like I was king ! Good French cuisine ! Highly recommend..

Wonderful food and amazing service, I proposed to ...

Wonderful food and amazing service, I proposed to my girlfriend here and had asked the staff to help make it special.
As we arrived, front of house was very welcoming, there was an open fire with ducks on a spitroast as one of the courses.

We were given the opportunity to have a drink beforehand prior to getting to our table.
The views of the river and the garden are lovely and certainly set the scene.
Service was excellent, attentive but not imposing.
The wine list is very good and the food was delicious, in the end we ended up sharing the Chateaubriand cooked to perfection.
My girlfriend was given a plate with strawberry dipped in chocolate with a few chocolates including complementary glasses of champagne.

I proposed and she did say yes.

I would highly recommend the French horn and will certainly be back for dinner and lunch in the future.
