Stunning location, sensation service and amazing food.

We have been going to The French Horn for over 10 years now and it never fails to impress us. It's become a very special place for our family to go to a few times every year for birthday celebrations and family occasions.

The service is always superb and the food is fantastic, I can not recommend it enough.

Lovely lunch for a close friends 80th birthday treat. Beautiful setting, lovely view from our table, great food. Fab service. Only negative comment is I feel drinks are unnecessarily expensive given the cost of the food, especially non alcoholic drinks.

Another trip to the French Horn. As always the food was good and generally the staff lovely - apart from our surly wine waiter. Time between courses wasn't good this time, with no explanation/apology offered, but overall would recommend it for the food offering. No view on the hotel element.

Stayed overnight on a business trip, accommodation was ok. Could do with a perhaps a refurb in the room, but view out to the River was lovely. Breakfast was a little slow to arrive but cooked very well and was hot. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the whiskey menu is incredible!

Duck roasting on a spit over an open fire in the lounge.... what could be better?

I will definitely stay here again the next time I am near Reading.

A wonderful hideaway on the banks of a quiet backwater of the Thames. We have lunched there many times over the years. The wine list is something really special and the quality of the food is as one would expect from this well known establishment but this year it's even better.

Wonderful, traditional hospitality in this wonderful restaurant. It will not come cheap, but you get what you pay for. A glass of bubbles by the fire while the fowl are roasting and looking at the extensive wine list. Superb service and incredibly delicious food.

They have a mobile coffee shop van parked in the adjacent parking lot on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Serving from about 7.30 am. All I can say is that this is a godsend in the morning. Great coffee, fantastic hot chocolate and a substantial range of pastries and really fresh rolls. So far the olive bread roll with cream cheese and salmon is just sublime. There is a comfortable feel about this little venue even down to the doggy treats and water bowl. The only improvement would be to open the rest of the week!

This is a place of two halves, one fabulous, the other - not so fabulous!
The food is lovely, made with care and thoughtfulness.
The service is lacking. We had booked a room for the night and a table with friends (who were not staying the night).
We had asked for a kettle in the room on arrival - it turned up several hours later, while we were at dinner.
At dinner, 3 times we had to ask for something that had been missed, including one of the guests desserts, another s dessert wine.
On leaving, the card machine did not work. Two days later, we had been charged for 5 times the booked room rate. On calling to ask for the overpayments to be refunded, the hotel made it sound as if they were doing us a favour and not a sorry in sight!
Given the quality of the food, the experience is let down by the service both in the hotel and restaurant. Now we understand why our friend eat there and stay down the road!!
