Food is great. Service attentive. Outdoors but pleasant. Expensive. Limited wine list.
Delicious brunch and very attentive staff, highly recommend the croissant!!!! The ham and swiss crepes are awesome!!!!
A fav spot for quality French food. entered near nine, it wasn't busy. prices were good for how much you get.
With such attitude to their customers no matter how good their bakery is no one will come back. Lady on the front was extremely rude and when I tried to order she ignored me twice. Employees are acting like they don t care will you order or no.
Fabulous service, stellar wine selection (what seemed to be hand-selected, special, well priced), and the food was authentically French. Recommend the three wine bottle $5 corking fee deal. and be sure to chat with the wine experts!
Love their bakery! I've almost had all of their desserts and they are such a treat! My favorite is the palmier and the apple turnover and the mixed fruit tart (and all the other tarts too) and the Danish, and they definitely have the biggest most chunky chocolate chip cookie around. It's hard to pick wheat to get because it all looks so beautiful and tastes even better. The customer service is great and everyone is super friendly, and they even have a rewards system If you're not so much into sweets, try the breakfast egg croissant with ham/bacon- its delicious! Haven't taken pictures of everything we've ordered because we usually take the bites before I remember to take some pics, but I have managed to take some. Right now during COVID, they have hand sanitizer stations, and they're maintaining social distance and safety practices. They're really fast and when there's a line outside, they'll even start asking if they can get started with your order. I'd definitely recommend you try this place
Best pastries!! The chocolate crossiant is perfection and their fruit tarts are to die for.
Great bakery and good restaurant. Standard brunch fares well executed but nothing special. Easy to get a table in the weekend but huge line to buy baked goods
Best cakes in town been going here since our wedding in 2004.
I absolutely loved our catered food from The French Gourmet. The company worked with my student group that supports a wide range of first-generation college students, including foster youth at UCSD. We greatly appreciated their care and time with creating an memorable event for us. Thank you again.
Can't go wrong with the escargot! Had the steak frites for breakfast, which was decent. Could do with a bit more butter haha Also, yummy no-frills Napoleon!
This place is the BEST! Beyond delicious pastries and bread, the French Gormet has small packaged meals and soups. And a huge selection of wines. Plus a french restaurant. This is gem, tucked away in this residential area. Must Vist!
Delicious! The quiche is the best I've ever had & I've had a lot of quiche!
Good ambiance, exceptional service, delicious food. Try the cheese platter and the rabbit.
This restaurant provides great service as well as tasty food. My favourite spot around here. The meals served quickly and the prices are affordable. Will definitely recommend this spot.
A great place to come for pick up food just sit and have a great meal to thank God for the French Gourmet.
Every exquisite facet of our visit was perfect and phenomenal! The service was polite, patient, and friendly, and the casual atmosphere and decor made us feel like we were at a friend's villa. The prix fixe selections offer elegant options More
the inside of the restaurant is very nice, servers are always super friendly and humorous. The portions are large and they give you free bread to start with. There is also a wide selection of French desserts.
Authentic French food. Our first time to try it ever. We ordered seafood plates. All seafood is fresh and was cooked to perfection. The sauces were fantastic, too. Even the shrimp scampi, was the best tasting shrimp I've ever had.
The escargot tasted moldy to me and my husband said it's the worst he's had. When he told the waiter, he said it's prepared the way it is in France and that native French love it.
The plates are pricey and portions are appropriate for one person, so plate sharing isn't an option if you're very hungry.
One of the best place to get cakes, pastries and fresh baked bread in all of San Diego.
The BEST chocolate croissant ive ever eaten. Heat it in the oven at 350 degrees for 6 mins the chocolate will be liquid
Great place ... The cakes and pastries are great ... The croissants are v good too. They have coq a vin - 2 servings in to-go boxes I've been wanting to try for a while. The candle costs are exhorbitant
Undoubtedly one of the best bakeries in town, especially for desserts. Twice baked croissants, almond cake, Napoleons, delectable Palmers and tons of other crafty yummies - they're all great and worth trying.
As we've been buying pastries here for many years we finally decided to try the restaurant part. Well, I wish I could say it's as good as the bakery but at least the Sunday brunch is nothing to write home about. I'm not saying that it's bad by any measure but there is so much competition in this business right now that they need to rethink the whole concept.
We are planning to come back for dinner and will update the review at that time. Meanwhile it remains one of my main source of desserts.
The food was fantastic and the service was great. It was a slower night which was nice to be able to talk to the waiter about the food and restaurant. Prices were good also, especially for a French restaurant. If you get a chance, check this one out!
Amazing food! Great service! Love their three-course meal. A must-try experience in SD.
The absolute best pastry, baked goods, quiche and French food in town! You will not find a better croissant in San Diego, and if you spend 5 min inside you ll hear each customer rave about the quiche.
Lovely owner is often there with his fantastic French accent, the the service is always spot on with a smile.
I ve meant to write this review for years. Truly the best!
Great food but last time a younger female employee was rude.
Thank you Michel Malecot and all your wonderful FG Team that provides such great food, friendliness, and service. You are a blessing to our San Diego community. And everything is always delicious!
Great food. Excellent service. The vibe is warm and inviting.
Warm and friendly eatery with great food. Owners are solid citizens.
Overpriced sugary/margarine based pasteries. The French baguettes were good but the pasteries were old, soggy and definitely not up to French standards. The 3 of us got diarrhea soon after eating their food while i vomited this morning. Definitely not coming back sorry. Unsold old food should not be sold to customers as it s unsafe.
The service is very friendly and the food is amazing. I highly recommend the onion soup.
Such a wonderful experience, Went for Restaurant Week and had the Mahi Mahi and Duck Confit and it was just amazing! Definitely coming back.
Excellent fine dining you have to try the French onion soup best in town
Nice place to think about business. They have so many good reviews for a reason.
Amazing food, excellent customer service and a great atmosphere.
A snippet of a French Bistro in PB, part market, part confectionery, part restaurant all French. The food is first class with a mix of French and American favorites.. Great selection of wines and decadent desserts. The staff are friendly, helpful & timely.
We love the French Gourmet. It's the perfect French Bistro. The food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and the staff is great. In addition to wonderful food, they specialize in French pastries and also do wedding cakes.
We recently used The French Gourmet to cater our company's holiday meal and they were absolutely the best. The food quality was amazing and they came in convenient individual containers. Michel was easy and great to work with. We definitely recommend using The French Gourmet for your next catered meal!
Wonderful food, wonderful service! I have never been disappointed when I've come here. They also have a bakery with amazing desserts and they cater as well!
I love this place! Been here 3 separate occasions. Once to pick up a cake as a gift, the. Next to share quality time dinner with my daughte in law and granddaughter. And just today to pick up some comfort food for me post-op. Every time the service is with a friendly smile, happy service, great prices and exceptional selection of goodies. It's out of my way, but totally worth it! Parking is available next door in the evening. Close to the beach if you want to to enjoy a day in the sun and end it with an romantic evening dinner.
Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, warm service. I'm delighted every time I go back.
Great food. Excellent service. Don't skip the pastry case on the way out!
This was one of the best restaurant experience I have ever had. We happened on this place while on vacation and was skeptical but as soon as we walked in we were greeted with happiness and excitement. We sat at the restaurant and had the most delicious eggs Benedict and French toast. The prices were very reasonable and the atmosphere was formal but unassuming. A
Our waiters were an absolute delight and made me want to stay in San Diego just to go to their restaurant again. This is a must.
food was so appetizing. the service was very friendly and attentive. it has a good feel to it. ambience is similar to fresno's scene.
Good French cuisine. I used to take my dates here when I lived in the neighborhood. Well, either here or next door to Froggy's, which isn't there any more. The French Gourmet is impressive, yet reasonably priced. Not a whole lot of parking so you may have to try to find a place on the street, which is also not easy. Good staff and great menu.
I ordered my wedding cake there long time ago. My guests were so amazed with the cake and constantly asked where did I order it at.
Employees are always friendly.
I did also buy valentine's day heart shaped chocolate cake last February. Always delicious. Worth to its price.
I'Ve tried their syrup, like it as well.
delicious and affordable, btw the waitress looks like a younger and more beautiful version of Naomi Watts
The cakes were too sweet, the macaroons were hard and not delicate
this place will surprise you. i'll return with my coworkers. bring your hunger - portions are generous. reminds me of a place in new york i liked to visit.
The food is regularly fresh and flavorful, employees provides good service. I like the cleanliness and ambience. I highly recommend this spot.
Oh my god! I have been working right down the street from this place for years and never had i ever checked it out. I've been wasting my time and money for all this time. I had the a roast beef sandwich, cold brew coffee and an almond croissant, all for a fraction of the price at the local supermarket deli, not to mention French Gourmet is levels above in quality. I was in and out in a couple minutes. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. Will definitely recommend to anyone who's a fan of good food
Delightful French pastries, great vibe as though you were in France and extremely reasonably priced. Quiche was really good along with chocolate croissants and coffee. The service was quick for to go orders and their bread is fresh and the real deal!
Great menu n staff. They do wedding cakes and catering as well. Dining room is decorated with beautiful artwork.
The food was good but a little slow. We got the the course meal (for $30 which I think is pretty good), but the wait in between each course was a little long. The salmon was decadent. So rich and study flakey texture was just perfect. The French onion soup tasted classic, but the crostini was a little soft. The fruit tart had a crust that was too thick and too hard, but the custard and fruit was good.
I was impressed enough that I'd visit again. Food was delicious. Service was professional and prompt. The take out pastries etc look amazing and if they were conveniently located close to my house I'd frequent them for treats and lunches. Never had French cheesecake before but it was delicious and not to far different from the styles I'm used to. Slight difference in texture.
Our family loves the French Gourmet. We've loved every meal we've ever had here. What we love more than anything though is the bakery. Often on the weekends we'll drop in and let the kids pick out a cookie or baked good. They're always fresh and delicious.
They have a little deli counter too, next to the bakery. They have a wonderful selection of meats, cheeses, and some premises items as well, like sandwiches. I enjoy grabbing a sandwich, a chocolate croissant, and a sparkling water, then walking to the beach for an impromptu picnic.
Excellent service. I ordered a mixture of fruit tarts & cake slices online from the French bakery section for delivery. They were all delicious! Definitely recommend this place! Very professional & friendly service, as 1 item from my order was no longer available, but I was contacted by the restaurant & Max was super helpful & provided substitute options. So a special thanks to Max for his generosity and excellent customer skills!
I flew all the way from South Carolina to try the new spring menu created with Chef Art. To say it was worth it is an understatement. I had the best flavored wings. The perfect Mac and Cheese. Phenomenal French onion soup and over the top truffle fries. The hidden alley dining was spectacular and well maintained in accordance to all the covid rules. I was absolutely impressed and I highly recommend that you try the place out too.
Outstanding Desserts & Reasonably priced. Courteous, Efficient service. Pleasant Bakery staff.
Friendly service. Fresh baked goods. Clean, Nice atmosphere. Croissant was delicious so is the iced cold bre
I have to say that I wasn't super excited when my SO booked a table in this restaurant during SD restaurant week. But man did they deliver! Definitely some of the best food I ever had in a restaurant. The crab cake was good but not special but the yellow tail with risotto was simply amazing. The Creme brulee was an outstanding dessert to finish an incredible evening. Thank you.
This is almost 5 stars, but only gets dinged for really using too much heavy sauce on our breakfast orders, crepes and eggs Benedict. It also woud not hurt to have a little more seafood in the seafood crepe for the stiff price. Still, it is a pleasant charming place to get French food with always attentive staff. The bakery has a good selection, and there is quick parking to grab that coffee and pastry and dash. We only had one visit, but we are looking forward to our next visit and trying some other dishes maybe requesting less sauce. They do have a liquor license for those wanting a bloody mary or champagne with their meal. Note that at least as of this posting, they are closed on Sunday and Monday evenings, but still open for breakfast and lunch those days. Give the Gourmet a try, if you are anywhere near San Diego.
It is an ok place but the pastries and viennoiseries are more American style than French. From the level of sweetness to the looks. The people are nice.
Great brunch, atmosphere, and service. Lives up to its name.
I have come here two times to the bakery. I was waited on the first time I believe by the owner. He was very nice, helpful and acted very happy I came in to buy something. The second time was a different story. I came in at 10:20 am on a Saturday. Not busy at the bakery counter. I looked at the menu and thought I'd like to get a sandwich and a pastry. I asked if it was too early to order a sandwich the lady at the counter said no. So I started to order a roastbeef baguette with no tomato and onion and onion confi instead of mayo but before I could finish saying what I wanted the lady interrupted me and said the sandwiches are in the refrigerator behind you. I said yes but I wanted no Tom or onion and no mayo and she immediately got an attitude and looked really pissed off and started I guess writing down my order. I waited and she continued to have a very sour look on her face and clearly she did not want to make my sandwich. I asked her if it was a problem and she said no, we just made those, meaning the pre-made refrigerated ones. I personally do not like cold bread. I like room temp slightly crispy on the outside fresh bread. I don't like it when restaurants that sell food act mad at you when you order their food and want to buy it. I decided to go next door to the deli and get what I wanted. Without the attitude and dirty looks. I will not be back to French gourmet because obviously they do not want my business. Don't sell sandwiches if you do not want to make them.
Went here for a wedding cake tasting, very helpful and accommodating.
I love their breakfast and lunch hour. You can enjoy late brunch untill 3pm. I really loved their decent food with great price, and of course, cozy atmosphere! I'll def visit here again to get some fresh bread.
