I love that they're still here. They don't always have what I'm looking for but they'll happily order it for me.
Really nice shop. Great selection of vinyl, CDs, and DVDs. Reasonable prices. Super friendly staff. Came away with three records and two dvds. Highly recommended!
This place has everything. I feel like I've been to heaven.
The unicorn of record stores. You may not believe a record store like this still exists. But it does. And once you visit, you'll see how magical it really is. Young, old, or in between, you have to visit Canterbury Records, browse through their extensive selection of bluegrass, blues, Broadway, classical, country, folk, jazz, old-time, pop and rock like it was 50 years ago, and take a magical mystery tour of music.
I could be there in January of this year and it is an excellent record store for lovers of rock and music .. from Argentina
Staff is alway super helpful at this neighborhood institution.
Vast selection of music on compact disc. Friendly and knowledgeable staff to assist you. Excellent selection in the following genera: jazz, classical, world, folk/country, and pop. It is one of last great independent record stores in the area.
Nice selection, cozy shopping experience. DVD and videos also available. Great prices!!
My favorite record store (even more than Amoeba thanks to its mom and pop vibe). Always good deals and fun to flip through the collection.
Love this place! Knowlegable staff, and super friendly. They have a great record selection, and you can order if they dont have it.
Great experience with this shop! I m not a Pasadena local but I love visiting independent record shops since we don t have too many of those where I m from.
I was on a frantic search for signed Taylor Swift CDs and on my search came across this shop. They were super kind and helpful by having a simple and straightforward distribution system. I was put on a list and when the CDs arrived I was notified and had a smooth pickup experience.
We explored the shop for a bit and picked up a Nirvana vinyl while enjoying the atmosphere etc. cool staff, organized and makes me feel like I m in the 90 s. Nice collection of cassettes and CDs. Perfect shop for any type of collector.
A Pasadena institution, they have a large selection of CD's and vinyl. Often carrying hard to find items. There's both street parking and a small lot behind the store. Recently the corner of the building has been used for art installations.
You'll find knowledgeable staff and a wealth of records, CDs, new and used to comb through. I always stop here when I visit Pasadena.
Great place to purchase those hard to find vinyl records and even movies.
I've been a customer for over 30 some years.
Sincerely,
Steven L. Gutierrez
Best music place, just a handful left. Fantastic place to visit and buy either vinyl or cd music!!!
Super cool little shop. Lots of VHS, CDs and vinyl!
In as much as we are so far out with technology and the milemium era, it feels real good be able still and get your favorite recordings, unique pieces of art, whether it is classic rock, great classical composers , or just today's comptenporary artists that can bring you so much pleasure when listening to. Bravo!!! Cantbury Records. Thanks so much for being faithful and to remain strong in despite of today's demands and still be able to serve us consumers that truly appreciates being able to walk in to a record store such as yours and our favorite music.
I've been shopping at Canterbury for at least a dozen years. They have a deep selection and the staff is very helpful, knowledgeable and great with special orders. Canterbury is a huge resource in Pasadena and it is always great to stop in there!
Love this place. Always have what I need. Great RSD sales as well
This was my local shop for close to 5 years good CD section and newer vinyl. Small used section but I have found some gems
Disappointed in the amount of vinyl. Tons of CDs though.
The employees at this store are so amazing, sweet & kind! Taylor CDs brought me into this store & I'm glad they did because this is the nicest staff at a record store i have ever encountered!! If you need CDs or vinyls please go to them they could not have been kinder!!
Canterbury records is a very large store with many selections for vinyl and cds. They have a huge cd selection which is cool if you are into cds but people go to record stores to buy classic vinyls, not cds
If you're into retro music and retro movies this is the place to shop for get this,, vinyl records, cassettes, VHS omg
Smelled pretty old there. They do have a good collection.
I love this place. Rusty (the owner) is the sweetest guy you could meet. He's very familiar with all types & categories of music. Anything you may want or like he may have in his store already. Whatever he doesn't have I'm sure he's always happy to order it for you. I frequent this place often. I hope you will too
Not a huge selection but the staff was super helpful finding the right record for my dad. Thanks again!
Ever have one if those days where everything goes wrong? Well, lo and behold if it were not for Canterbury Records today, it would have been claimed a total disaster! I ordered Rihanna's Delux CD/DVD 'Loud' and her Unapologetic CD before Thanksgiving 2013, I went in today and lo' and behold CDs were still there;dust , the receipt, two rubberbands-It was so wonderful.: ) A round of applause to Cantebury Records!
It was good but records were disorganized. If records were that way I can just imagine everything else. Being it's in California records are a bit pricey.
Amazing customer service with a diverse collection of new and used records, CDs, and cassette tapes.
5 stars for staff but this store needs a thorough cleaning.
Nice place to visit,a lot variety of various music and nice people too!Parking in back, also so many restaurants around the area too!.
Great music store. Excellent selection of CD's. I bought records on my visit and although they carry more CD's they had a nice variety of vinyl.
Great selection of new and old records as well a DVD and Blu-ray. Huge selection of movies and CDs. I was able to find the movies I was looking for and ended up with a hand full of CD's.
Very nice selection and nostalgic vibe. Great to see all the nice records!
Amazing customer service, I was able to get a record I was looking for and plan to come back in the future.
Canterbury Records is a rare find these days, whether your thing is movies or music, recently-released or vintage and collectible, you'll find it all here. They have an extensive collection of new and used CDs, DVDs, and vinyl covering a broad range of styles - rock, hip hop, blues, funk, disco, jazz, reggae, ska, classical - as well as international music from all over the world. In the event that you're looking for something extremely difficult to find, a helpful member of the staff will be happy to locate a copy and obtain it for you. Very, very highly recommended!
Great place to pick up vinyl and CDs. Lots of used CDs, smaller selection of used vinyl.
I ve just found out about this record shop and have visited a few times! The employees are the sweetest :) plus they have a huge selection. There are no words I can say that truly describe how amazing this place is!
Their vinyl collection gigantic.
It is a record shop founded by Leonard Gordon in 1956 in Pasadena. The round yellow sign is the first thing that comes into your eye, and if you can not find it, it's right next to your target building. If you go between the record shop and the target building, there is a kindly parking lot right behind you. This record shop has access to a variety of music including rock, jazz, classic, country, and fork. If you have any questions, please let us know your kindness and kindness. It's so good! It will be a haven for those who love music. Good!
I am so blessed to learn of this place. I've been able to order some real music like Vincent Nguini's "Symphonic Bantu".
I love having a vinyl store in Pasadena, and this store has great history. That said, currently the majority of the floorspace is still given over to CDs, and their Record Store Day policy is atrocious (basically, the lines are irrelevant - if you're in like in front of someone else, it doesn't matter if they run past you after the doors open). Also, I've been shopping here for years and I recently came in right after they re-opened after the quarantine/shut-down, and I bought a record I didn't even really want, because I want to support businesses like this in our community to make sure they're here for the long haul. My interaction with the person who runs the place was to tell me how much I owed him. There was no "thank you for coming in" or an acknowledgment of the customers supporting his business. I get that he's not a super outgoing person, because I'm not, either, but I can tell you that the businesses I return to repeatedly are the ones that learn who I am after having shopped there for a few years and acknowledge me while I'm patronizing their business.
My first time here, found a couple good albums, even my daughter who after years of trying isijs u now getting into vinyl and cds, found a couple cds she wanted, but we had to leave because my 7 year old needed to use the restroom, and they said they don't have restrooms for the public....I can spend along time in shops like this, but if I have to leave evey time someone has to use the restroom, then it doesn't work for me. So we left and didn't buy anything.
nice record store for popular releases, but the used section isn t so great.
They have a lot of cd's that are not available online. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about music. I enjoy visiting the store.
Love this place, good selection of LPs & CDs - employees are very nice and helpful folks
One of the few record shops left in Pasadena. Great selection of music and movies. Not the lengthiest selection of albums, but definitely worth a visit.
Super cool old school vibe here. Really friendly customer service. Best spot to buy a CD anywhere near here.
Good music selection and friendly staff!! Glad to see that there are some mom and pop record stores still around!
Been shopping here for over 25 years. Great selection and always a pleasure to run across those vinyl gems in the used record section. if you cant find it at Canterbury, it probably is long out of print.
I love this place the albums the people are nice very large selection and close to my house!!!!
Great selection of records and CDs. Quite the variety of recorded music types actually.
A must stop music store when you're in the Pasadena area. Friendly staff and good selection.
Great finds but one album i bought all cd cases were damaged in that section
I love this place but they need to have more movie options
Poor vinyl selection. This store mostly favors new vinyl over used. If you're looking for CD's and not vinyl, then this is the place for you.
Canterbury, Jazz, R&B, Rock, Blue's it's all their, from the 60 to the 90's they have it all
Had some good buys...
It was my son Blake Andrew's 30th birthday today...
And I bought him the vinyl album of,'Al Green's greatest hits" with tax and everything and came out to like $20 bucks...
Bought my other boy an album he wanted,it was $27.
They both were happy.
We had the best day ever!
Their record section was poorly organized and quite limited. To be fair, it looks like they specialize in CDs (most of the store seems to be dedicated to them).
You guys need to open and check that the right CDs are in the case when being bought. You have them taped up, so it's in your court to make sure the customer is getting what they pay for.
If you can't find it in their selections, they will order it for you.
Sort of cliquish and not the friendliest place anymore. More CD's than records and could use a facelift if I'm being honest.
Good selection of classical, jazz, vinyl and CDs, decent DVD section and always local.
Nice little spot for buying physical copies of your music. The selection needs some work.
We drove quite a ways to check this place out. Very unorganized and disappointing. I asked if they had certain items, and was told that the woman who stocks the store was sick. Another excuse was that what I was looking for was probably in the warehouse. I asked about something else and the guy said "I don't think they make those anymore. My mistake. I thought that was one of their selling points-hVing stuff that was hard to find. A wasted trip.
