Lovely looking place and great atmosphere. Prices not too steep for London region, but the food was a let down. Not that good to be home and certainly did not match the expectations.
It would have got five stars, but as good as the food is, it's quite expensive
this place is just a great food pub. nothing over the top, and reasonable price. service with a smile every time i go. 5*
Great friendly place to go. Good place to have a meal and a drink.
One of the worst meals I've had lately. Tempura mushrooms were dripping with oil. Fish finger sandwich was literally 4 microscopic pieces of heavily buttered fish in dry bread. Service was pretty average too.
Fantastic setting. Friendly staff. Food not much up to much.
Food was delicious. Well presented.
Service was poor....slow, forgetful
No beer! Only lager!
Lovely cheerful and helpful staff serving delicious food, highly recommended.
Very nice location, decor and staff. The food was average but interesting.
Great location, and atmosphere! Very welcoming. Fantastic place to come to have a drink and something to eat.
we visited for lunch on friday 25th October. We all decided on the 2 course set menu but was very disappointed with all of our choices. The food had obviously been sat on a hotplate for a considerable time . My husbands chips were soggy and chewy not crisp at all. my linguine was very greasy and the taste was nothing like it used to be when i have had it before ... very disappointed...
Caroline was out of this world, couldn t have been more helpful
Had the roast - tasty, but far too much! The road out front us full of potholes!
Had a good late lunch earlier in the week. Second visit and would recommend.
A really lovely family meal. Service great (thank you Briony!)
For a pub I actually really enjoy this place. Although a little pricy, it's Got a lovely view of the downs racecourse and a great atmosphere. While I have not eaten here the menu does appear to have a nice selection of food. Carpark at the back is large and free. Outdoors seating is also located around the back. Would recommend for a liquid lunch or if your out at the races.
Edit: Spelling corrections.
Love this place for its warm atmosphere, nice food, good selection of drinks and friendly service!
Noisy full of screaming children 9pm what is going on in this country. Won't be going back.
Best gin and tonic my mother and daughter have ever tasted.
Have been a few times now but yesterday had such a nice lunch with a friend and Caroline was lovely, great service from her, attentive and very friendly. Couldn t do enough, thank you!
Staff are poor, service is the worst pub I have been in needs to close down
Do not recommend, second time last night table of 6 the only table in the restaurant service very poor food portions very small and way overpriced.Ok for a drink maybe best in the summer when you can sit outside.
Boom! That s what I m talking about! Great higher end pub food, yet still informal if you want it to be the Derby Arms has hit the nail on the head. Adam the manager on duty was great today. Very personable and always ready to help.
This was our second visit to The Derby. It has a lovely atmosphere; an open fire and four-legged friends made welcome, the staff are very nice and most importantly the food and drink is excellent.
Truly disappointing!!!
It started to go wrong from the moment we walking through the doors. I had made our table booking for 14:30 on arrival we we're told there was a slight delay of 10/15mins, understandable i thought it's a busy day. So we got a drink at the bar and sat outside to wait. at 14:55 after i had gone in to check if we had a table ready we were shown to cramped corner a tiny table with tow chair and no highchair as i had requested when making the booking online. We where told by the host the table next to us who where in use of a highchair where finishing and to wait for that one. so we waiting only to discover the table next to us had only just received their starters!!! My partner than had to search for another one. When we final sat down to order all cramped round the table in our little corner from the menus provided I ordered the Scallops to start and Sea bass main, for my partner the Soup and Beef Roast, for our daughter 'who does not eat meat!' from the kids menu the COD Goujons + fries and the set menu soft drink.
Our starters where taking a while and the baby was very hungry at this point so we order some bread for the table int he meantime. Again we took this understandably as it was fathers day the kitchen presumably was busy. However the restaurant itself told a different story!
Finally the starters arrived...If i had not have been so hungry at this point i would have sent it back. The three scallops where the size of rubber bullets and tasted of rubber bullets and had the texture of rubbed bullet. I fact eating a rubber bullet may have been more pleasurable! surrounding the bullets was enough sickly sweet onions to feed the whole restaurant. After prompting the plates where cleared and i anticipation of the main was aided by the hunger very much still felt.
Superb food, excellent service and you were so busy.Would say portions far too big so a far amount wasted sadly but we will be bwck
Busy pub with a good and varied menu. It s generally really good when we go. Book as it does fill up, especially at the weekends
Had lunch with my wife here. Very pleasant atmosphere, staff extremly polite and attentive. Found us a seat when the restaurant was full. Food delicious!
Served rancid ham which we had to return. The waiter tried his best BUT the company didn't care at all. Wrote to them but they did not bother to respond. Someone will be poisoned soon so, if you have to eat here be careful.
Staff moaning about how hard they work and how poor management are not really what you want to hear! And they asked us to post a good review, even though we had to send some cremated fries back.
Went yesterday had a chicken and advocado salad. The bacon was cold and streaky the chicken was plonked on top. Took it back and told them it needs some sauce they poured oil over it .
Nice environment, interesting menu and lovely staff.
Fabulous place, definitely set up for social distancing. Please go ahead and visit in confidence.
Great pub, amazing food and staff are always excellent.
Came here on bank holiday Monday- incredibly slow service (even for a bank holiday) and my main course (king prawn and chorizo linguine) was average at best. Wouldn t recommend.
Food average. Staff not all nice! We had a big birthday party there and the guy how looked after us was very nice. However, the tall dark colour hair how was helping was a grumpy one. Also the one who I called to book us in was very helpful.
little gem of a place...popped in for a quick bite....lunch menu was superb...garden is lovely...vicky was lovely and friendly...would definitely return with family for a meal
Went in on Sunday and had the Trio of roast and my partner had pork loin roast. Both meals had to be taken back into the kitchen and new ones brought out due to a severe over cooking and lack of detail. Even when the food was brought out a second time, it no way near matched the price they charge, which is that of a very established restaurant. Luckily for them, they have some outstanding staff, in particular a chap called James who dealt with the issue very quickly and continued to check on us throughout. He got us fresh meals and was very empathetic to the problem. If it wasn't for him, I would have walked and refused to pay.
Had a lovely meal here, first visit and will be back. Staff lovely.
One of the best pubs in Epsom .
Food is good!
Nice food, nice staff, but really slow and disorganised in serving a meal
Classic pub with good food, and a great location for the races.
Nice finish after refurbishment.
Service from bar staff can be hit or miss. A bit cold and not many smiles.....
Food is decent.
This was the first pub I had ever visited and it was warm and cosy just like I had imagined.. love this place and since then have been there several times and have never been disappointed.. comfortable seating, good food and definitely good wine.
Caroline was very nice, very chatty. Food was very good quality and menu. Is very vaired
Had a meal with a large number of people. Orders taken promptly. Food took a little while, as you might expect, but was great.
I had the best Roast Lamb i've had for ages, (on a Sunday); Really good quality lamb, fresh mint sauce, delicious roast veggies, perfect yorkshire pudding.. Impressive. I've got lots of food intolerances, (which is pain in the a**), and this place is always so helpful and accommodating. Thank you :)
Slow service and underwhelming roast dinner.
Waited 20 munutes after seating to be asked whether we wanted a drink, usually that is taken whilst you peruse the food menu.
I ordered a triple roast as I though I would have a large main and forgoe a starter or dessert. It was more expensive than a standard roast as you get chicken, pork and beef.
When it arrived the slice of beef was the size of a bacon rasher and dry. Pork slice also tiny. Insufficient gravy also. I felt ripped off.
Avoid. I dont rate this place at all. Seems to be trading on its location alone.
Great service food and staff as well as location. Best part was seeing the Wooden men perform..the place rocked
Not really impressed with the new seating arrangements. We used to be able to sit by the fire and enjoy a relaxing hour with our dog by the chair....this area has now been given over to dining tables!
Owners and their dogs must now sit in one of 4 designated tables in front of the bar which is not really practical with an inquisitive dog.
We passed by on Tuesday evening and noticed the pub open ( even though it officially opened the next day ) and thought we'd get a drink and a bite to eat. We were refused a menu and told that the evening was for Public Relations invitees only...Generally disappointed!!
Decent food, nice outdoor seating and great location on the Epsom Downs opposite the race course
Popular location with a decent pub menu, good for groups
Lovely setting, even better staff (Gemma was a star) and meal/service. Menu is clever, food matches extremely well. Top notch.
Christmas day drinks and warm welcome. If I'm being picky, service was unnecessarily slow
Had a lovely burger there. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Fantastic food great atmosphere definitely recommend a visit
Gemma along with the rest of the staff are always very attentive and offer a very friendly service. Highly recommend.
Very decent Sunday, lunch. Nice staff. Good for families, if the number of children is anything to go by.
Venues was lovely and cosy. Staff seemed disorganised and short when asked something. I had to asked for water three times. I had a very sore throat and eventually got it after 45 mins. Food was lovely, hot & delicious.
Having previously been here 2 weeks ago and had a fillet steak which was really nice I thought I'd try my luck again. So I decided to take my date here service was OK problem I had we both ordered a peri peri spit roast chicken it came out so dry not even a gravy could soften it up the chips were hard and not fresh the chicken and just been steamed and been sitting around was not pro impressed at all. I Complained all they gave me was 25% off The Bill for something did not enjoy and was not edible at all. I would have to seriously think twice coming back here again
Excellent staff, very friendly and accommodating, dog friendly, nice coffee!
Food was tasty, drinks were good but service was slow and it was cold inside
Lovely place, good food. Sarah our waitress was very attentive and helpful.
Lovely friendly staff , nice ambiance, free parking
Been here and eaten before and remember the food being great. Today I went along with family to celebrate my sisters birthday. 17 of us, booked in advance for 1pm. We pre-ordered our food via the menu online, let my sister know the decisions and she let the venue know in good time... nice & easy! The service in here is fantastic, they truly go above and beyond. The manager here is outstanding. So attentive and accommodating to our every need, nothing was to much. You can imagine with 17 of us and every table in the place taken, that it would be difficult to receive your meals hot and all at the same time.... not for these guys!! They've done this before and you can tell. If I could give them more stars I would. The food was excellent, not a dirty plate is sight, we were all over the moon. My Niece and Nephew had baked cupcakes that morning for Aunties birthday and I had bought a birthday cake in. There was no issue with us not ordering a dessert and the waitress' bought plates, forks and serviettes over without prompting. These guys are unreal, first class service and I cant wait to return! Thanks guys!!
Haven't been here since its been done up but was very happy with the meal
Pub restaurant, relaxed atmosphere, a little over priced. Ale choice was just Doombar and London Pride, had a very tasty pint of Longhorn Italian.
Fantastic food as always and very reasonably priced for the location, Caroline is always good for a chat and fantastic service. Would highly recommend!
Very popular place. Worth a visit. Very comfortable and the food was different to your usual pub food. Great variety and very nice.
Lovely setting but the food was average. I had a roast, the beef was overcooked and potatoes undercooked.
