Founded in 1997, The Trust has built a legacy of innovation and leadership in the carbon market, helping to accelerate the pace of carbon mitigation through conservation finance.

At its core, The Climate Trust is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by investing in projects that promote energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable land use practices. By leveraging private capital and working with partners across sectors, The Trust aims to create lasting solutions that benefit both the environment and local communities.

This approach involves using financial tools such as carbon offsets and payments for ecosystem services (PES) to incentivize landowners and other stakeholders to adopt more sustainable practices. Over the years, The Climate Trust has developed a range of innovative programs designed to support conservation finance initiatives across different sectors. For example:

- In agriculture: The Agricultural Carbon Markets Working Group (ACMWG) brings together farmers, ranchers, policymakers, NGOs and others to develop strategies for scaling up agricultural carbon markets.

- In forestry: The Forest Carbon Investment Program (FCIP) provides financing for forestland owners who want to implement sustainable management practices or participate in voluntary carbon markets.

- In transportation: The Clean Truck Program works with trucking companies to reduce emissions from their fleets by upgrading vehicles or switching fuels.

Through these programs and others like them, The Climate Trust has helped catalyze billions of dollars in private investment towards climate solutions. To date, they have supported over 100 projects across North America that have collectively reduced more than 10 million metric tons of CO2e emissions.

But despite these successes, there is still much work left to be done if we are going to meet our global climate goals.
