I rated it only a 3 star as of the location. Very sketchy area in downtown Sacramento. Really grea for business people. But not a good place for families especially with dogs. Just very difficult to walk them in the Ciy.

The Citizen is beautiful, very thoughtfully decorated with an old-fashioned political theme. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and were able to meet our special requests with cheerful smiles. Entry is restricted to key-holders only, and masks are required in all common areas of the hotel. Keep in mind that this hotel is in the heart of downtown Sacramento, so it can get a little rowdy during the night, but earplugs were provided in the toiletries kit, which I thought was a nice, conscientious touch.

We had a king room - high ceilings, fancy decor, and an exceptionally comfortable bed. There were a couple of issues with the room but one phone call to the front desk and they were addressed within minutes. To me, it's not the absence of problems that defines excellence, but rather how a business responds to them, and in this case it was superb. I'd recommend anyone stay here anytime you have the need or desire, I think you'll be very pleased.

LOVED my room and the retro feel of the property itself. Located only a block from good food and a great bookstore and convenient to most downtown destinations. The only reason they lost a star from me is that I can not wrap my head around downtown hotels (anywhere) that do not offer parking.

I would give 5 stars but the water in the shower was either too hot or cold and the climate control wasn't working. My wife was cold most of the night. Other than that, our stay was pleasant and the bed was comfortable.

Love the 1920s feel of the building. The front desk staff were friendly and the valet staff were fantastic (which I do suggest paying for the valet service. Definitely takes the stress off of trying to find parking in downtown Sacramento). The bed was so comfortable and the shower worked great. Of course there were some things outside of the hotel's control, such as the lack of a designated hotel parking area and some noise from the streets and homeless encampments, but I don't think the hotel should be docked for those. I had no problem sleeping, and if needed they had provided ear plugs for the noise. Great stay overall.

It's hard to judge this hotel separately from the location. It's in an awful location and I would never stay here again. No hotel parking, it's all street or a nearby parking garage. The hotel itself is nice but very dated. The bathtub was the deepest tub I've seen! The biggest perk of the stay. Staff were excellent and a security guard walked with me to my car in the parking garage in the morning which was nice. I hate to give such a low rating for something out of their control

We loved the hotel, and the bar. Great location for walking around downtown. The homeless issue downtown is getting really bad. I would have given 5 stars, but I was woken up on the 12th floor several times during the night with hobos yelling at each other.
