It is a beautiful space. I visited for the first time and was thrilled to find a bookstore close by. However, I experienced very poor customer service from the manager of the cafe which is unfortunate. I was made to feel very uncomfortable. I was initially told I could eat in the cafe and then approached and told I could not. Then some moments after I put my food away, I was told I had to leave because I didn't buy from the cafe. This could have been handled differently and more professionally. She could have kindly asked if I would like to buy anything from the cafe in order to occupy the space but instead I was very roughly met with "Well, this is the company's policy". I had plans to return and for this reason I will not.

The place is beautiful on the facade, I would love to make it my home, but the inside is unreplaceable. The amazing selection of books is one of a kind.

January 9, 2018: I am sad to say that it looks like the The Center for Fiction is closed. The inside is empty. See the photos I placed.

Mayor De Blasio is to blame. He cares less about local small valuable stores. Some building owners just sell to retire or some don't care and want to make money.

But, do people like you and me a favor and visit local or small stores, spread the word to prevent more of a loss of culture, intelligent and provacative places to fuel your mind.

Very cool space! Staff is super helpful and friendly. The library (for members only) is a secret gem! It's like a portal into another, fictional world. You can expect to find me here often, and I'll bring plenty of high fives. Come say hi!

This place is so good it will make your black Friday purchase of a Amazon Kindle actually feel the human emotion of jealousy. In the ages where bookstores are even struggling to compete with one another let alone keep up with modern technology and its multiple ways of accessing literature. There is one word to describe this bookworms wet dream. Confident, let me explain just the clear image of a towering bookshelf that can be found in a animated feature through a clean display of windows with a beautiful neon white sign stating Center Of Fiction is bold and breathtaking. Most bookstores have bland, boring, and lifeless environments. But The Center of Fiction's lighting, sense of style, and atmosphere really flips the idea of what a bookstore can really have to offer. You can find books from some of my favorite authors, from Edgar Allen Poe, Oscar Wilde, & even Mike Ashley there is so much to read. If you ever find yourself in the Brooklyn area and you find this place go a take a look. One last thing, if you find yourself here spoil yourself and go to the upstairs section of the store. I won't spoil much but it's one of the most beautiful sections I've seen in a bookstore ever.

Many great events for readers and writers; excellent reading groups (many led by accomplished writers); library has one of the largest fiction collections in New York; and a small nicely curated book shop featuring mostly novels, shorts stories, literary journals and books on the craft of writing.

Beautiful space. But very unpleasant people working at the cafe. Not sure why. We bought food, drinks and left a nice tip. Perhaps because we interrupted their comic book reading. I apologize and will not come back to bother again :)
