About The Calgary Foundation
The Calgary Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been facilitating collaborative philanthropy in the Calgary area for over 65 years. The foundation's mission is to connect donors with community organizations to create positive change and improve the quality of life for all residents of Calgary and surrounding areas.
The foundation was established in 1955 by a group of visionary community leaders who recognized the need for a central organization that could bring together donors, volunteers, and community organizations to work towards common goals. Since then, The Calgary Foundation has grown into one of Canada's largest community foundations, with assets totaling over $1 billion.
One of the key strengths of The Calgary Foundation is its ability to make powerful connections between donors and community organizations. Through its extensive network of partnerships and collaborations, the foundation is able to identify areas where support is needed most and direct resources towards those initiatives.
The foundation offers a range of services designed to help donors achieve their philanthropic goals while maximizing their impact on the community. These services include donor-advised funds, which allow individuals or families to establish charitable funds that can be directed towards specific causes or organizations; legacy giving programs, which enable individuals to leave a lasting impact on their communities through planned giving; and grant-making programs that provide funding for local charities and non-profit organizations.
In addition to its work with individual donors, The Calgary Foundation also plays an important role in supporting collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing some of the most pressing social issues facing our communities today. These initiatives include efforts focused on poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, education reform, healthcare access, arts & culture promotion among others.
One example is "Calgary’s Child Advocacy Centre" (CCAC), which provides support services for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Through its partnership with CCAC , The Calgary Foundation has helped fund critical programs such as forensic interviews , medical exams , therapy sessions among others . This collaboration has enabled CCAC reach more children than ever before while providing them with much-needed support during difficult times .
Another example is "Calgary Homeless Foundation" (CHF), which works tirelessly towards ending homelessness in our city . Through its partnership with CHF , The Calgary Foundation has helped fund innovative housing solutions like “Housing First” program – an evidence-based approach that prioritizes providing stable housing as quickly as possible followed by wrap-around supports like mental health care , addiction treatment etc . This collaboration has resulted in significant reductions in homelessness rates across our city .
Overall , it’s clear that The Calgary Foundation plays an essential role in facilitating collaborative philanthropy throughout our region . By connecting donors with local charities & non-profits working hard every day on behalf of Calgarians from all walks-of-life - we can create positive change together!
