The new Bongo club in the Cowgate is a great venue with a large room down stairs, a smaller one upstairs and a nice smoking area out the back. It is really well laid out and good place to go for a dance.

Type of music makes me bored, sorry, but how you can dance to that? People around looked like they have taken something more than alcohol.. Honestly, if you like typical club music, with one you can have real fun, don't go there.

A fun place to go. Set back under the bridge over the Cowgate, the club has two floors, plus a spacious outdoor section at the back. Occupying the old vaults under the Edinburgh central library, it's both a testament to, and a beneficiary of, Edinburgh's storied and idiosyncratic city architecture.

Particularly fun during the Edinburgh Festival, when it becomes the 'Underbelly' festival venue, complete with comedy venues and extra space.

This place is great, obviously it depends what music you're into, and which night you're at. The first half of the night it's usually dead, so a good time to go if you want to throw some crazy shapes, second half of the night it gets pretty packed.

I come from Poland, live in Inverness at present. I can honestly say that it has been the worst party in my life. Music was horrible, people seemed to be all drugged. Prices are pretty good. It's nice and dark inside but I'm sorry, I couldn't have fun there. Any amount of alcohol wouldn't help. Don't go. I won't come back.

Matthew, the security guy accused my friend being too drunk when she had only one drink. This is unacceptable discrimination. If the club is too full why not to say so.. Very bad attitude. Do not recommend. Don't go there. .

If you like cheese and chart - go somewhere else. If you like super cheap drink and buying Grey Goose by the bottle - go somewhere else. If you like toilet attendents, VIP tables and plastic people who know nothing about music - go somewhere else.

But, if you want to hear true underground, roots music, with friendly staff who are on the same level as yourself, surrounding yourself with people who know a thing or two about music and culture, then the Bongo is place to go.

Not too big but not too small. Great soundsystem and a very chilled vibe.
One of the last independent venues in town! Support your scene.

Full of uni kids and if you love music good luck listening to the music here. Terrible soundsystem and acoustics, sounded like a giant fart. Music could've been good if I couldve heard it. Ashame because it's a cool little venue with a good bar but left after just a couple of hours.

This place used to rock. And yes, that was right... Used to..
Before... It was dirty and charming, you know, that kind of charm these places have.

Now is a new and worse version of the last one, high prices and crappy staff. Don't even try to go in there in summer!

Sad.. Sad...

The poor Bongo have had a tough few years, ousted from their two previous locations. It retains its spirit though, and has moved up in the world each time.

Now in the space known during August as the Underbelly, tucked away beneath Central Library where nobody can easily find it, they continue to be one of the few venues suitable for smaller live music events, as well as hosting a bunch of eccentric club nights. Not the most inspirational space, but the content tends to make up for it. And it's nice to have an outdoor/indoor beer garden that isn't on the street.

Careful of the cameras - they're in some unexpected places. Ladies, best not to rearrange yourselves in the toilets...

Love it
