One of the gems of Mt. Clemens, my wife and I visit here during the holidays to pick up artsy gifts. Free parking and just off southbound Gratiot. All the volunteers are always very helpful.

I visited two weeks ago for the first time in a few years and I was impressed with the talent of local secondary school students. They filled the two floors with art of different mediums from students 7th-12th grade. I m glad that a place like the Anton Art Center exists to give students and local artists a place to display their artwork for the general public. For a free museum they really display the work nicely. I highly encourage anyone to visit and to donate what they re able to support this great institution!

This place is a gem! Nestled in downtown Mount Clemens, part of the Center is in the city's historic library and part of it has all the amenities of a modern space. It offers art shows, holiday craft fairs, wonderful classes and a fabulous gift shop. Staff is professional and friendly. Keep an eye open for all the creative community events they sponsor too. Positive vibes found here.

Went for the 50th anniversary SatARTday celebration which was our first time ever visiting Anton Art Center-- they did not disappoint. Live music and crafts for kids. Plus some really great art on display and for sale. They also have excellent classes for the community. Definitely a gem hidden in Mt. Clemens.

It's a great place to take a pottery class! The studio manager and instructor Deanna is fantastic too. You'll never look at a piece of pottery the same. Lots of nice people taking class too!

Andrew Carnegie built 2,509 free public libraries ...

Andrew Carnegie built 2,509 free public libraries throughout the English speaking world, and the Mount Clemens Public Library on the corner of North, Grand and Macomb Streets, was one of them. His offer was simple, and it became known as the Carnegie Formula : he would put up the money to build a free library in a city if the city agreed to spend at least 10% of that amount each year to support it. In 1902 Carnegie wrote that Mount Clemens was a go-ahead city, and he offered $15,000 to build a library if the city would spend at least $1,500 annually in its support. Construction was begun in 1903 and the building was opened in 1904. It is of neo-classical design, highlighted by its red tile roof and Doric columns, and is one of the finest of its kind in Macomb County. The main floor included a public reading room and two wings, each with its own wood burning stove. In 1913 a half balcony with a glass block floor was added, and in 1929 the basement was converted into a children s room and the children s collection was moved there. In May, 1969 the library moved to its current building on Cass Avenue.
