The Allen Street Pub may look like a neighborhood dive bar from the street, but step inside and find cask engines, a healthy selection of micro brews, free popcorn and no pretensions.
Best bar in Albany. If you drink beer somewhere else in Albany, stop going there and go to Allen St. Best craft beer selection this side of the Rocky Mountains. TouchTunes jukebox, darts and board games. No food served, but you can get food from some of the grab-and-go places right around the corner and bring it in. The best bartender in Northeast America works on Thursday and Saturday. His name: Joe. Play him a Pearl Jam song and he will show you his belly button.
Good selection of beer, and a dart board. Thumbs up.
Great place, great craft beer selection, great people.
I went to the ASP the last night to hear Larry Ross play (ASP has live music on Friday and Saturday night). The music didn't start until 9:30 but I enjoyed speaking to fellow barflies and singing with them along with the jukebox. ASP has fresh popped popcorn that I was enjoying until I choked on a kernel. I reached for my water glass but the bartender (Joe not Adam) had removed it instead of refilling it. He still didn't replace my water glass even though he saw I really needed it. Choking him that he was a poor bartender and I never would hire him for one of my places. His response was to THROW ME OUT OF THE BAR! On reflection I think that if I had been one of the young millennials crowding the bar he would have had no problem but I'm a 66 year old woman (who likes good beer which they have at ASP (23 on tap; 3 casks). So go for the beer and steer clear of Joe unless you're a good looking young man.
this is my go to bar please stay out if you are a jerk. I have mixed feelings about giving a good review. on the one hand it will help the business and on the other hand it will be busier. lol.
It s the perfect bar, reminds of back in the 90s when all of the bars were like this with a dartboard a tv a large selection and everything a beer drinkers wants in a bar it s paradise
They use Mahar's Beer Tour which makes it the best bar in Albany.
The spiritual successor to Mahar's (they have 'the list', most of the taps, some of the 'regulars attitude' which I never minded, but some are put off by). They seem to have the largest cask selection going and the beer list has been good. They even have the option for Anton's delivery, which is a nice bonus.
One of my favorites in the area. Great bar to hang out at. Great beers, great people, and never too packed that it's unenjoyable.
This is a great place for draft beer and great atmosphere nice mixed drink selection top shelf liquor great bartender friendly
Great place to watch a game and run into someone you haven't seen in years.
These guys rock. They know their beer and have a great selection. Get some rare stuff you haven't seen a lot of other places.
The guys who run this place are definitely beer fans. The selection is awesome and it's constantly rotating but it's not all high end beer snob stuff either. You can grab a PBR and watch the game too. The bartenders are very attentive. The atmosphere is friendly. There's even a "world beer tour" tracking program (the same one from Mahar's if you're familiar with the area) that keeps track of how many beers you've tried at the place and what beers are on premises that you haven't tried yet. And there are rewards for achieving certain numbers of beers. Another great thing about this place is that you can get 10 Oz glasses if you don't want a full pint of something. All around great bar.
If you like Beer the Allen Street Pub is a must. Always two or three casks and 20 + beers on tap and a ton of bottles and cans! Lots of stuff you won't find at other places. Really knowledgeable staff. Veteran-owned business..
Great drinks, great service, great prices and great people to be around. You must stop here and have a few.
Nice little place. On-street Parking may be an issue though.
Great beer selection but small and not much seating.
A favorite place to go and enjoy a good beer or two. 3 cask engines as well. No food but you can always order in
Very much a locals bar, with an awesome tap and some great bartenders. Well worth a stop.
T-Bone is the Grand-master of funk and exquisite suds!!!
Small, casual place serving great beer with rotating selections. Joe is a great bartender and very personable.
Great dive feel. Friendly environment as long as youre friendly too
Great time.. friendly bartender.. great entertainment with Derrick..
I ve had lovely experiences at ASP and with Joe. Great service, great atmosphere and great drinks. They serve a seasonal pickle plate with homemade spicy mustard that is incredible.
(Regarding a negative review, if you don t want to see young people, or a crowd of people at all, don t go out - young people supporting local businesses is a great thing and keeps Albany lively!)
Low pressure, fun, neighborhood hangout with a great draught selection!
One of the most relaxing spots to grab a beer in the entire Capital regions.
No frills -- a bar, a dartboard and a couple TVs. So the essentials are covered, and then past that you have an awesome craft beer selection and a couple things that separate it from other beer bars. One, everything comes in a 10oz or 20oz glass. The former is great if you wanna try a few things, the latter for staying a while.
Two, they have three casks. Old Mahar's regulars will remember what that's like. And with the casks, they keep a lot of English and Scottish beers that other local spots don't.
Basically, this is a beer-drinkers laid-back paradise.
Fantastic spot with great regulars! One of my favorite places in Albany. Joe is incredibly welcoming!
This is only as it relates to the cask beer. The first one I tried was bad, 'end of the cask' the bartender said after I brought it to his attention (and he tasted it). Odd, I thought, for a 'Cask Marque' designated place -- then I saw that status had expired, according to the Cask Marque plaque on their front door no less, Jan 31, 2018. They should take the sign down. The replacement was ok but I wonder how fresh it was. I'm sure it's a great local bar for the late night crowd, and it does have a lot of beers to offer but unfortunately the cask was not well kept this time.
Unusual combination of divey neighborhood bar with super-friendly locals....and excellent selection of taps. Beertender Missy is the best!
