Booked using online facility for a local Saturday ...

Booked using online facility for a local Saturday night journey which was confirmed and payment taken days in advance, yet on the night a car from Codsall and Perton Cars was waiting outside. I asked the driver if he was for me and he didn't know he was a Parkway booking, but knew my destination so we travelled with them. The car was smelly (cigarettes and dog) and old with the exhaust clanking and falling off - the driver had to get out and check it at my home. On arrival they charged me again as neither the driver or his control knew it was a pre-paid booking.

I emailed Parkway twice using two different email addresses I found for them, and my original payment was refunded promptly, but there was absolutely no explanation or apology for my experience.

I chose Parkway because I wanted good drivers in well maintained modern cars to transport my family yet they palmed me off onto a substandard alternative that would have been cheaper if I had booked it direct, where luckily I had enough cash on me to pay again on the night. Mistakes happen, but its normal to offer an explanation and apology when things go wrong. I would also expect advanced warning if they wish to pass me on to an alternative company.

EDIT: In response to Parkway Cars comments:

Failures in your online booking system are not my fault, it should not have accepted my booking which was confirmed by email after payment was taken if you did not wish to accept it.

You had my email address (you confirmed the booking) and my mobile phone number (I just checked your confirmation email) and yet made no contact by either method. No voicemail message was left, no call or text received and my mobile service notifies me of calls which fail but do not leave any voicemail message. I dispute that you tried to contact me.

I contracted with Parkway Cars not another company and therefore my comments are fair as they relate to the service I received from you. You wrote to me confirming acceptance of my booking therefore we clearly had a legal contract for you to provide service. If you subcontract that service it is your decision (and not one I would have happily accepted).

I am pleased that you've decided to change the company that you subcontract for work, obviously a recent decision, but you should notify customer of the fact that you are subcontracting to an alternative firm.

Your entire response is not accepting any room for improvement of your own role this matter, but instead blames other factors. An unhappy customer is not a good result no matter how you look at things.

The driver was really helpful in helping me when my bank was having IT issues. He took me to my nearest branch and waited patiently before then taking me to my final destination. Very friendly and professional.
