Good BBQ for a downtown location. In Austin, BBQ places pop up everyday it seems. This place has been around for a while and quite a few other BBQ places have copied their model. All the neat is weighed out and you pay per pound, besides some things like sandwiches. The sides are also portioned out to how much you want. The brisket is always good and my personal go to.

The meat here is very pricy but delicious. I got five small slices of brisket and a rib and it cost over $50. Honestly, I liked the beef rib better than the brisket which was slightly dry compared to Franklin. Great BBQ sauce!

I've tried several BBQ places in Austin. So far, this has the best:
Brisket
Mac 'n cheese
Green beans

Their brisket is $25/lb., but you're paying for quality, not misplaced pride. Even the lean brisket melts in your mouth.

Nobody makes better Texas style BBQ then Terry Black! Excellent brisket, ribs and sausage! This place is awesome with great decor, friendly staff and almost no wait lines. We even got a tour of the smoke house!

We came for lunch on a Saturday around 1:30 and there was a line going outside the building! We didn't mind and decided to stick out the wait. The line moves fairly quickly since the food is given in an assembly line format. The staff was super friendly. We ordered brisket, sausage and a few sides. Oh my goodness what a meal! Needless to say it was worth the 20-30 min wait! Definitely would recommend to any meat lovers/fan of BBQ food.

Truly amazing Texas bbq.

Truly amazing Texas bbq.

Pork ribs and brisket to die for. The ribs are so tasty, I don t even put sauce on them.

Be careful, their line can get a little long but so worth the wait.

As far as sides go, the Mac and cheese is awesome but they recently switched to using different noodles. I like to get that or their potato salad.

For sauce, if you like spicy, use their spicy sauce and mix a little bit of their ghost pepper sauce into it.

Num num num num num... Brisket saw tender and melted in my mouth and was robust with flavor! You hear about ribs falling off the bone, well this place has exactly that and a sweet sweet rub that makes them so tasty. The turkey was moist and had a nice smoke flavor. I was a little surprised to see 3 kinds of bbq sauce on every table, as these meats needed no sauce! I will saw however their sweet sauce did complement the turkey. Lastly the side are pretty typical, I had the potoato salad and peach cobbler... the cobbler crust was divine. Also worth noting the bathroom was very clean, always need to respect a restaurant that keeps a clean bathroom.

I bring everyone who visits Austin here because the brisket and beef rib are life changing. If there is one thing you do in Austin, it's having a out of body experience at Terry Black's BBQ. Put some respect on fine dining establishment.

I drove from Ft Worth to Austin because I heard about the good food. The food was decent but not for the price I paid. The beef rib was salty and the jalapeno cheese sausage did not have a robust flavor. I liked the potato salad, corn bread and green beans but the cream corn was not fresh (canned) and it was a bit watery for my taste.

This place had a lot of hype. I want to state that the food was fine, nothing more. It wasn't cheap and didn't live up to its price. I feel you have to really love the style of the place to really enjoy it as it is self serve with a bunch of bread slices to eat your meat how you desire.
It was a unique experience for the location and I don't think you will be unhappy for trying it.

Brisket and beef ribs were fatty and very salty, but a good, strong smoke taste. Turkey was excellent. Beans were firm, smokey, and very salty. Creamed corn is excellent. Corn muffins are wrapped in plastic, yet surprisingly good--texture and taste. Sausage was a bit fattier than top notch sausage, smokey, and lacking adequate seasoning, I thought.

Came in with high expectations and they were exceeded exponentially. This is the best barbeque I have ever had including the best beef ribs, brisket sandwich, pickles, beans, cornbread and more. Awesome aesthetic to the whole restaurant as well and surprisingly very fast with it's food and service. Will definitely come back.

Great tasting brisket and quick service. If you don't want to wait in line at Franklins or other popular BBQ joints, come here to get your fix fast. They have a bunch of sides that are pretty good too.

What a lucky find!! You know when the line is long and the crowd is steady, you've found a good place to eat. Unique cafeteria/tray style inside to get food......loved the wood outside and the "shack" built to cook the meat on site. Everything was DELICIOUS and FRESH! Stop here for sure!

They mixed pork and beef on the same cutting table no gloves change. For ppl like me who don't eat pork and cannot have them mixed it was traumatizing. They should superate the handling of the meats.

Pretty good restraunt, loved the macaroni and cheese and the peach cobbler and the brisket. But if you want to have the best BBQ in Austin I strongly suggest going to Rudy's. They have the best BBQ in town.

This is the BEST BBQ in the state. I believe that it's even better than Franklin's. And I was going to Franklin's when it was located in the old silver bullet at a parking lot off of I-35. The brisket is out of this world; the best that I have ever had. You will not taste anything so moist and delicious...The pork ribs were just as good, too. They have very good sides, as well. It's a little pricey, fyi. But it is worth it!

Food was good but it was very crowded. Their sweet bbq sauce was mustard base and not at all sweet. The brisket was sooooo tender it litterly fell apart when i picked it up. The sausage was great too. The sides were delicious but the desserts were sub par. The peach cobbler was ok but the banana pudding was very little banana, some vanilla wafers, basically no pudding and all whip cream.

Ate ACL weekend, Saturday 10/17. Arrived around 1pm. There was a line but not long. Ordered brisket, pork ribs, Mac & cheese, and peach cobbler. The brisket was quite greasy. The outer layer (bark) was tasty. The meat was mostly tender. For some odd reason the bracket reminded me of tuna... the pork ribs were good. The Mac and cheese was eh. The cobbler was less than average. Service was good. Overall, based on this single experience, I was not pleased. There is ample seating. Easy to recognize from the street.

This place needs more stars. I've had dreams about the brisket. I can't speak to the quality of the sides or deserts because I must save every inch of space for brisket.

Came here a year ago and literally have had dreams about it. Upon returning I must say the vividness of my imagination did not do it justice.

I'm a brisket fanatic and no other place has come close. Take a look in the smoke house to see dreams being made. My dreams. The best dreams.

Also, shout out to Josh for being super friendly and letting me "fan-girl" over the smokers outside and telling me about their process.

Can't wait to come back.

Ok where to start!?!?! THIS PLACE IS FREAKING AMAZING!
The staff, the food, the vibe and just about everything else makes this place on of a kind.
We came in just before the rush and wow were we lucky. One of the owners Mark happened to cruise past while we were ordering our slabs of meat. Being the super star he is he threw in a couple extras for us to taste! Thank you again Mark.
Now if youre a tourist like us, DON'T make the mistake of coming here anything but hungry. The portions are huge and if you want to try a little of everything you will 100% need the room insde you.

Massive thank you to Mark and his staff for providing an amazing atmosphere and amazing authentic Texan bbq experience.

Best barbecue I ve had anywhere. That said, be ready for a one hour wait minimum until you get up the counter to order.

The brisket and ribs were all awesome! Sides were all good as well. I tried the rice, beans, potato salad, coleslaw, and creamed corn.
