The desecration needs improvement as we were told that it was fully book. So, we just do walked in and sit at the bar. There re plenty of empty tables. Can t understand .

The very best and a league of its own. The space is unpretentious and gorgeous, the service casual looking on the surface but very refined, and the food is flawlessly done. The short rib was simple and delicious -- a carnivore's heaven.

A must visit place in St. Helena.

An incredible experience. One of the best dinners I've ever had. The sommelier recommended a wonderful Spanish red and everything from the rib eye to the corn was perfectly prepared. There wasn't one thing that didn't blow us away. Can't wait to eat here again.

Was really anticipating dining here but unfortunately left pretty disappointed.
The good:
The building is gorgeous and as soon as you walk into the restaurant itself the vibe of the room hits you and you think that you're going to have a fantastic night by sight alone. In fact, of all the restaurants I've been to in the Napa Valley, this one has the potential for the coolest "Vibe" if you will. The lights are done right, the decor is on point, music is fun and adds to the energy of the space. Feels more like a real city restaurant than the typical wine country space. As mentioned to me by one of the managers, they are definitely not trying to be the typical Napa country restaurant. They are off to a good start here.

Maybe if I just hopped onto the open bar seats... ordered a burger, I would have a much different opinion in the end. There are so many incredible dining experiences nearby... Here's why I won't be back.

The bad:
Seating inside may be more preferable, but most seating options I saw are a within communal table situation. Based on your party size, there are some other great stand alone tables. Go for them.

Heading outside on a warm night had me sitting on a wobbly high top table and chair made of iron. It was the most uncomfortable chair I have ever attempted to sit in while at a fine-dining establishment. How expensive can seat cushions cost when you are charging $8 for bread?

I hope the menu is in constant revision as I found only a few things that looked appetizing in any way the night I was there. Lots of vegetarian options for sure. I was hot and uncomfortable at that point, so it could've been me until I heard the table of 12 next to me all order the same entree because they must've felt the same.

Expect very simply plated dishes... with almost no creativity or technique seen in much of the presentation. Check the photos.. yep that's a bowl with a spoonful of roasted okra. Yep, those are full ears of corn in a bowl, etc. The freshness, quality, and taste of the ingredients made up for it a bit, although my bet is that most people will expect more than 3 slices (really!) of fresh peaches in a bowl for dessert at this type of destination and price point.

I thought the service was good... although they tell you at the end of the meal when they present the check that service charge was included. I typically pay at least 20% when service has been even average, so the charge wasn't disappointing... but since it's included whether I like it or not, I tend to be more critical when looking back... and if I have had to refill my own water, re-pour my own wine multiple times, get my own silverware and napkins out and push plates away before they can be cleared... it leaves me overall dissatisfied. I do believe that if service was top class, no one would even mention auto gratuity. They are certainly not there yet.

So much potential, I hope they figure it out.

The food was great!! one of the best restaurants I have been to. For food I would rate 5 stars.

However, the quality of restaurant failed miserably on service!! With 20% precharged service fee, and the food quality, I expect same level of service, which we didn't get. It could have been a perfect memorable celebration dinner, but it turned into an embarrassed night.

The staff require training!!! I am not the only one who complaints about service, many other reviews said the same thing, I just didn't think it was this off. This restaurant management really need to do something about it.

When we first got there, the staffs were nice. But it just went down hill from there. 1. When we ordered food, the server kept asking us to order more sides. And it was never explained this is family style portion to share, so we could have tried more things if he explained that!
2. When the starter brought up, the staff keep taking plates away from us when we are not ever done eating
3. The worst part, I made special request of a little candle and a dessert at the end for my friends birthday. When I called, the lady was very nice and said yes, we will take care of it, but when it came to the end of dinner, the server came to us and told us include the birthday person, "oh we don't do candles, but do you want us to sing for you?" What???? This conversation should had happened when I made the request not in front of the person who is having the birthday. What do you expect her and I to say? That was embarrassing for me and awkward for my friend.

I remmend food, but don't expect service to match the food

I am a Pure Luxury Chauffeur, and delivered 5 fine folk to the Charter Oak for lunch today. They offered to buy me lunch. (I was just going to go across the street to A&W, but took them up on their offer.) The Pork Terrine Sandwich looked good. The staff gave me a cup of ice for my Monster Drink, AND brought the sandwich "To Go" out to our waiting SUV! Very delicious. A pork composite slab on a beautiful bun, slathered with some kind of tarragon aioli. Fresh potato chips and soothing pickles.
I have long-loved Tre Vinge, and missed it, but so far, am all over Charter Oak! Thanks for the friendly and great service.

At the edge of the main road 29 with a large parking lot, the Charter Oak is a pleasant stop between visits. The vast building is organized around a fireplace where grilled meats and fish. These often busty dishes for meats are accompanied, at no extra cost, with fresh vegetables from their own gardens.
Nice wine list and you can bring your own without corkage if they come from the region. The service is quick, young and enthusiastic.

Excellent textures and flavors in the broccoli/kale and eggplant dishes. The sandwiches were good: the meats inside were the stars and not much enhanced by the sandwich as a whole. Would return to try more of the menu.

Great food sourced locally. Really enjoyed the rustic yet up scale atmosphere, and the staff was great. A really nice touch was the drawers in the tables that have all your silver ware, very cool!

I remember my first time at your restaurant. It was so special, even magical. Dining on the patio under a very soft light, eating great food and being serve by a fantastic waitress. But it seams like all good things have to come to an end. My last two experiences have not been all that great. In my last occasions we were 15 minutes late and we were seated outside in the cold, it seams like the stuff penalize us for being late. (We went to the restaurant from San Francisco, that s how much we liked your place) I ask if there was anyway to be seated inside, but I was told no.
In my two trip to the bathroom I notice that all of the tables were not occupied, I went again, same situation. That left a sower taste in my mouth that not even the dessert took away.

Wonderful restaurant!!! Love their decor, brick quarters, furniture and outside patio. They have a thing with woodfire (which is their signatures). Everything is cooked on a wood-fired grill, from main dishes to vegetables. If you wanna have an californian meal, this is the place. I personally live the broccoli salad, bread. The fish and rib eye in bone we ordered were very salty. They took off from the bill so this is just a matter of consistency, I will def come back.

The food was great, but the service was awful. We did a wine pairing and we would get a glass of wine, then the food to go with it 15 min later, after you ve drank the glass. Or the food would come and no wine pairing. The somm couldn t even tell us why the wine was paired with the courses.

Very disappointed, as this place came highly recommended. I even spoke to the chef who didn t seem to care.

Absolutely great and fresh menu. In the starters take my advice get one of all and turn it into a plate and pair it with the the bread..The broccoli dish was so yummy in the mids, The fresh greens and veggies with the pesto onion dip was somthing simple yet so perfect. For the main the chicken a huge win for my belly. Ate all the desert and would again. Especially you, you naughty date pie...Great wines (of course) and great staff. For being a new resteraunt this place is on a path of delcious success. Great work team from the amazing lady chef owning the beautiful hearth, through the back kitchen staff, to the knowledgeable front staff who cared about the food and cared to share about it with a chefs passion. Keep it up!

So much potential here... could be a great room, but it's just not there yet. If you sit outside be prepared to be uncomfortable on wobbly metal chairs. The food was good... but not amazing. Menu needs some work to be more appealing to more tastes. It was heavy on veggie dishes and stuff like okra. The grilled corn was tasty- but all the food was simple and lacking technique, given the prices and location I expected much more. Service was friendly and good - but since they add the 20% no matter how you feel I wasn't super impressed. Overall just underwhelming. I hope they get better.

we were disappointed with Charter Oak. The music was too loud. The vegetable starter was small and unsatisfying. the mid's were ok. we ordered bread and that helped. smoked trout good, the beets didn't go well with the beef?? the ice cream was melted. it seems like they are trying to create a "scene" but didn't work for us.. our service was good.

This is the best burger in St Helena, when you want more than a burger have the short ribs, they melt in your mouth and are worthy of a two hour drive.
When you want the best burger in Napa, come to my house for the blue cheese burger or one with grilled onions.

Great service-especially the bartenders. We were lucky enough to sit outside at the only two seats at the bar. Amazing dinner, drinks, service, and apps. 100% will return and am very impressed.
