About Temple beth shalom
Temple Beth Shalom: Your Jewish Connection
Temple Beth Shalom is a warm, welcoming, and inclusive Reform synagogue located in Melrose, Massachusetts. It is more than just a place of worship; it is a family that welcomes everyone with open arms. With an emphasis on community, learning, friendship, tikkun olam (healing of the world), and joyful Jewish practice, TBS provides a unique experience for its members.
At Temple Beth Shalom (TBS), we believe that the beautiful traditions of Jewish life and liturgy should be shared by all regardless of background. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us in our mission to create an inclusive community where everyone feels at home.
Our History
Temple Beth Shalom was founded in 1959 by a group of families who wanted to create a Reform synagogue in Melrose. Over the years, TBS has grown into one of the most vibrant synagogues in Massachusetts with over 300 member families.
Our Community
At Temple Beth Shalom, we are proud to have built a strong sense of community among our members. We offer many opportunities for socializing and getting involved including book clubs, movie nights, game nights and more! Our annual events such as Hanukkah party or Purim carnival are always well attended by both young and old alike.
We also have programs specifically designed for children such as religious school classes which teach Hebrew language skills along with Jewish history and culture. Our youth groups provide opportunities for kids to connect with their peers while exploring their faith together.
Our Services
We offer weekly services every Friday evening at 7:30 pm which are led by Rabbi Susan Abramson or Cantor Gaston Bogomolni who bring their own unique style to each service they lead. Our services include traditional prayers along with contemporary music that will uplift your spirit!
In addition to our regular services we also hold special holiday services throughout the year including Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur High Holy Day Services which are open to both members & non-members alike!
Our Values
At Temple Beth Shalom we believe strongly in tikkun olam - healing the world through acts of kindness & charity work within our local communities as well as globally through partnerships with organizations like Mazon: A Jewish Response To Hunger or American Friends Of Magen David Adom (AFMDA).
We also value lifelong learning & encourage all members young & old alike to participate in educational programs offered throughout the year such as Torah study groups or guest speaker series on topics ranging from Israel politics/history/current events etc...
