About Techsploration
Techsploration: Empowering Young Women to Explore Careers in Science, Trades, Engineering & Technology
Techsploration is a non-profit organization that aims to empower young women to explore careers in science, trades, engineering and technology. The organization was founded in 1998 by a group of women who recognized the need for more diversity in these fields. Since then, Techsploration has been working tirelessly to inspire and encourage young women to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.
The mission of Techsploration is simple yet powerful: To increase the number of young women who choose careers in STEM by providing them with opportunities to explore these fields through hands-on experiences and mentorship. The organization believes that by exposing young women to STEM at an early age and providing them with positive role models and support networks, they can help bridge the gender gap that currently exists in these industries.
One of the key ways that Techsploration achieves its mission is through its school-based program. This program brings together female students from grades nine through twelve with female mentors who work in STEM fields. Together they participate in hands-on activities related to science, trades, engineering or technology. These activities are designed not only to be fun but also educational as they provide students with real-world experience and insight into what it's like working in these industries.
Another way that Techsploration empowers young women is through its summer camps. These camps are open to girls between the ages of 12-15 years old who have an interest or curiosity about STEM subjects but may not have had much exposure or experience with them before. During the camp week-long sessions held across Nova Scotia girls get hands-on experience exploring different aspects of science such as coding robots or building circuits.
Techsploration also offers scholarships for post-secondary education for those interested pursuing a career within a STEM field after high school graduation.
In addition to their programs aimed at empowering young women, Techsploration also works to raise awareness about the importance of diversity in STEM fields. They do this by hosting events and workshops that bring together industry professionals, educators, and students to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing women in these industries.
Techsploration has been recognized for its work in promoting diversity in STEM fields. In 2019 they were awarded the Diversity Champion Award from Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) Atlantic Chapter.
In conclusion, Techsploration is an organization that is making a real difference in the lives of young women across Nova Scotia. By providing them with opportunities to explore careers in science, trades, engineering and technology through hands-on experiences and mentorship programs they are helping bridge the gender gap that currently exists within these industries. Their commitment to raising awareness about diversity issues within STEM fields is commendable as it helps create a more inclusive environment for everyone involved. If you're a young woman interested or curious about pursuing a career within STEM then Techsploration is definitely an organization worth checking out!
