I recently went to Teatro Gastroteque for my sister's 30th birthday dinner. We had read all of the reviews online as well as about the chef and so were super excited to see what the hype was about. Lucky for us, they lived up to their exceptional reputation by providing us one of the best dining experiences you can ask for.
We had the 6 course renaissance menu which actually consisted of 10 dishes. Each dish came out had extraordinary presentation, which the taste of the food matched.
The staff explained each dish after serving so we knew exactly what we were about to eat which was a nice touch. Every dish was unique and unlike anything I had tried before. I highly recommend Teatro to anyone in Bali who wants to try something different, cooked by the highest renowned chef in Bali.

The most value for money meal I ve ever eaten in my life, very very good quality food of Michelin standards, have had meals in multiple Michelin restos and would rank this top 10 meals of my life. Staff are amazing and attentive, food was on point, love the mixture of flavours and textures.
Personal favourite - smoked cauliflower soup that came as an apparatif and the foie gras which was served with a very surprising brioche that complemented it very very well.

(Note: I would give it 3.5 stars if Google let us) From the US, have lived in NYC and been to many high end restaurants around the world. I'm not a crazy foodie but feel like I have enough experience to tell truly special meals from good but not amazing ones. We had the Archipelago menu a couple days ago with wine pairings. First thing that jumps out at you is the cost. I understand Seminyak isn't cheap, but we left having spent over 4mil rupees which is around $280, so even by US standards this is pricey. But it's still Bali so I expected to be blown away for that kind of money which unfortunately I wasn't. Everything was presented beautifully and the plates were so unique. The food is clearly of super high quality and we were impressed by the look of the menu. A couple misses for us were the tomato dish which had a ton of potential but really just ended up tasting like a tomato. And the tuna tartar with avocado was something we see on a million menus in the US these days and just didn't have much to differentiate it. That said, the stars of the night were the fish (sooooo good), the ravioli (very rich but super creative) the lamb and the dessert. Where the entire experience was a big miss for us was the wine pairings. Just felt like a bit of a jumbled mess. A way too sweet pairing for dish 3 which I'm sorry to say tasted like it could have come out of a box. We had never heard of the grape variety and it tasted like plum juice or something similar. We wouldn't recommend the wine pairing. Just pick what you like and go with it as they have a very nice wine list.
Be aware, this is a TON of food. Like too much for so many courses. Both of us felt over-stuffed as the portions were surprisingly large for such a high-end restaurant. With so many courses plus the little extras they provide which were really good they could definitely cut down on portion sizes.
The last thing we'll say is we sat in the front of the house on the banquette with the leather arm chair. There is no nice way to say it, they were some of the most uncomfortable seats we've sat in at a restaurant. And this dinner lasted 3 hours so it was very tough for us to stay seated. The banquette's bench is so deep that my 5'6 wife's feet almost didn't touch the ground and it also meant she couldn't sit back at all during the meal. They provide a pillow but it's not enough. My chair's back was so far angled that I also couldn't sit back either. Made for an extremely restless meal where both of us just kept shifting positions to unsuccessfully try to find a comfortable position. Ask to sit in the back area and hopefully the seats are more comfortable.
Overall we enjoyed the food, no question. But again, at the price for a Bali based restaurant we really expected to be wowed and just weren't. We went to Merah Putih the night before and spent less than half of Teatro and felt that meal was just as good.

Although heading in the right direction the level is not quite there yet. We had the Archipielago menu with wine pairing. The cream based sauces are too salty and the wine list is poor. I was hoping for something more exciting.
Having said that, as far as fine dining goes, it is probably one of the best choices in Bali. Their combination of flavours is some dishes like the pumpkin risotto or the octopus was quite fun.
The service is very good, and overall I was very happy to have tried it.

I was here with my boyfriend on Valentines day and had the tasting menu with 24 different small dishes. Have to say I got dissapointed. We were stuck there for 3,5 h hours, in the end we both were bored and tired.
They only serve wine and water here which I think is weird since water gets boring after a while and people who don t drink alcohol should also have other altenatives.
The service was ok but I expect more for that price you pay (240 USD for two, only drinking water). The explanation of the dishes were hard to understand since many of the staff was talking fast and felt like they just memorized every word but not actually understanding what they are serving.
The taste of the dishes was so so, like some others already have written sometimes too salty and too sweet. Presentation of the courses was creative most of the times but the decoration was mostly radish and bean sprouts.
This is NOT a michelin restaurant and I have paid less at real michelin restaurants with much better food. Hope this review will help.

Located in Seminyak, with an intimate setting this restraunt is fantastic. The atmosphere, staff, service and food all compliment each other. On par with many Michelin star restraunts we have visited. Highly recommended.

Great food! But less salt would be better...4.5 stars. Didn't try the wines. Interesting unique plates/plating; Then again, saltiness is subjective... Some like salty, some prefer more neutral. Management came and we shared lots feedback. 5 stars!

A very special dinner for my friend's birthday in Bali. We went for the 10 course discovery menu with matching wine; too much food for me, but it was all delicious. The wine pours were also very generous. They cater for dietary requirements, and the staff were great. Only down side was the temperature, it was too hot; we were advised that this was due to renovations.

Probably the best restaurant in the Seminyak area at the moment, if you're into modernist fine dining. Sometimes they try to change up the menu though and it occasionally takes a step down from it's greatness... but the potential is there.

A genuinely amazing experience. Have eaten in Michelin * restaurants before and this was of that quality. Great service and the quality of the food was incredible. Don t worry about reviews of uncomfortable-seating, they have obviously listened and changed things (Also the restaurant is being renovated). Loved it, couldn t say enough good things.

Delicious! Had the 13 course discovery menu...I warn you, it's incredibly filling! The service was as it should be watchful but not over-bearing, this is so, so important yet overlooked by so many top restaurants. The one negative, value for money it is not...price-wise it is equitable with western fine dining locations yet their input costs most certainly are not. But if you can get over that it's worth a visit.

Really happy to have found this place and that the experience matched, if not exceeded, expectations. Ordered the discovery menu and was impressed by the quality of food and presentation. This course will easily exceed 3 hours to finish. Service was top notch.

I am kind of a gastronomist about FusionFood and I would say I am really impressed by this restaurant in Semiyak! Cant use enough words to express my feelings over the food, drinks, and the hospitality given by Teatro! They are excellent in every area! If there is Michelin starred restaurant, I would say this is the one!
The service get by Bayu is excellent since he is so attentive and smiles all the time! Good job, my dear friend

Had the festive menu with matching wine.
I was expecting some mind blowing experience since it was rated as one of the best restaurants in Bali.
Came back with slight disappointment:
Average wines;
Presentations are on point, but the quality of the food is not great, it would be better if they could stay with the native island ingredients instead of imported. It sounds fancy but I could tell some of the food was not so fresh.
Environment, they have some straight spotlights which make it dramatic, I get it from the name, theatre, yet, the lighting could be a bit too harsh;
Bathroom: I paid 450 AUD for myself dining there, and I expect everything to be perfect. There are literally exposed pipe works in the tiny bathroom.( no, not brutalist deco)
Also, the online booking system is buggy, I tried to book online, and was told nothing available that night. I called in to book then got a reservation straight away.
I would not recommend this place for a fine dining experience, don t get me wrong, I love Indonesian food, but I do reckon the street food here is a better eating experience

Stop by here because of winning a giveaway from Alliance Francais, in terms of experience this place presents a new experience in fine dining. As the name suggests: Teatro! From the side of the tongue, because my tongue is Indonesian and there are only 2 types of food, very good and delicious, then this one is among the first. It's delicious

Great restaurant, small yet charming. Service is good. Not very crowded. It is located on the corner and by the street, so parking is not possible, I think they offer valet service. Food is good, Michelin kind of molecular. The Brioche I had that time was really superb and made fresh. One of a kind experience.

It's a high-quality restaurant to get Michelin. I went to eat and looked at the entrance menu. I put Kimchi, which is Korean food, and came out without feeling bad. If you want to use the food of other countries, you want to know a little about the minimum food.
Please correct any mismarks later.
We went there for our dinner. And we found Kimuchi on the menu which one is kimchi; one of Korean traditional food . If you guys see our feedback, please update your menu. Kimchi is correct, Kimuchi is the wrong way to writing and saying.
Additionally, before you guys updating your menu, Please search about Kimchi at least.
Your restaurant looks amazing though. If you guys updated your menu, lots of Koreans would happy with that.
Thank you very much.

The restaurant is a fine dining full course meal that offers gastromy themed food with a Japanese twist. I was told that the menu is revamped every 6 months so my photos might be useless in that time. The place was calming and goes well with the food, the service of the restaurant was top notch and the waiters knew what they were serving us. The price is expensive but it's fine dining what do you expect? We had ours with wine pairing, obviously the wine isn't the best but it matched with the food well and i had an enjoyable time here. Come here for a date or something or if you just love trying weird and new foods!

Very conflicting flavors and textures that did not offer anything exceptional. Flavors were too strong; too sweet at times other times too salty. No depth of flavors. Nothing new or exciting here. Very expensive with no real value. Embarrassingly poor execution by chef. Better off moving on.

Amazing French cuisine. Almost everything were delightful. If only they reduce the course meal or the amount of food.
The 7 course was just too much for me as I ended up feeling too full and I was hungry when I came.
But it was a great experience. Will come again if they do like a 5 course meal :)

I went here last night and opted for the chefs selection menu- 9 courses of fish, beef, crab, salad, breads and chocolate cake. The variety of food was perfect ensuring we tried a mixture of different things. I was particularly impressed with the snapper and beef. We sat there for over two hour as each dish was served in perfect time and with an explanation from the very attentive staff. The venue is elegant and intimate which means you are never forgotten about by the staff. The evening ended perfectly with the staff bringing out a (second) slab of cake out with happy birthday written on it for my sister. Would highly recommend this place.

When you want to have an extraordinary food experience in Seminyak, this is the place to be. Amazing food and excellent hospitality. It is somewhat expensive for Indonesian terms but it is worth the experience. We paid around 1.7 million Rp per person (set menu and non-alcoholic drinks), however you then get around 15 amazingly prepared dishes. The place is small so if you go there make sure you've made a reservation.
If it is someones birthday it is also really nice to go to this place, they gave us a (free) mini chocolate cake with candles, and they even looked up how to say "happy birthday" in Dutch and drew this on the plate with chocolate. They even made a polaroid photo of us, places this in a card and all of the staff wrote down their birthday wishes.
A must-visit when you are in Seminyak.

Compared to other degustations we have had, this place was just not up to scratch. We had high hopes but flavours weren't great, and there were very long waits between courses. At 2 -3 times the price of other top Seminyak restaurants this just isn't good enough.

Take your significant other or group of your close friends and family to enjoy the fancy dining experience in Seminyak.
Teatro is unique and tasty experience where you can found a good food and nice conversation and the place is easy to find because it's near Seminyak Village.
You can enjoy your time, company and talk, while presented by amazing courses, while wine pairing. It will be a long night and 7 plates later, it was amazing dining experience.
You can taste the so many flavors in one night, for your info they change the menu every 6 months so you may comeback next time.

I love when the absurd cannot be ignored. Walking off a quintessential Seminyak street; money changers, souvenir shops and every other south East Asian contrivance into a veritable culinary cave of wonders is a juxtaposition most sharp. Absurd even.
A degustation menu designed to captivate the imagination and ensnare the senses. Each course thoughtfully paired with stems of wine even Bacchus couldn't fail to at least double take; more likely find himself a table in gleeful expectation...
Patronage this evening chose a mixture of extreme casual attire - T shirts and slides to an intoxicating camisole and short shorts number that won't soon be forgotten by staff and diners alike. As for yours truly, humbly, linen blazer and denim (Located in the tropics after all...).
Please. Bring the most enchanting man or woman you'd like to spend upwards of three hours with (preferably trained in the finer nuances of conversation) and spoil them. I insist.
To those uninitiated a true ancilla for international fine dining, to the more seasoned gourmand - home.

A la carte options were very small but tasty, not sure about the theatrical name. Expected michelin star level of service for the price, would not recommend as did not meet the high expectation. Cute dessert cake and rose presented for anniversary. Friendly vibe, maybe a little too relaxed.

not worth of trying. all flavors are conflicting, have no balance. people who rates high in here may have little understanding of Asian fusion cuisine. please go to japan, to expend your knowledge of foods there. it s weird mixture of korean and japanese for sure. it was for my anniversary, but i lost my appetite over time.

Impeccably presented fine dining food. We have eaten at top restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Africa, UK, Hestons in London and we must say this one is up with one of the best.
More than enough food and serving sizes were as expected.
Definitely one restaurant not to miss in Seminyak.
The flavors were excellent- particularly the foiegras with chocolate and raspberry.
Very good value for money when you consider how expensive fine dining is back home.
Staff are very friendly.
The only let down was when the restaurant got busier we had to request our water glass to be filled up a few times, would expect this not to happen in a high end restaurant but it didn t spoil the experience.
They even gave us a bunch of roses for our anniversary! Which was very special.

One of the finest restaurant in Bali, teatro is offering a fine dinning experience from the start u enter the restaurant until u leave the restaurant. Dinning experience was sublime, and frankly speaking it was the best potato croket I have ever had. They open from 6 pm to 11 Pm and only offer set menu, no ala carte is available. If you are looking for a local fine dinning, teatro is very recommended.
