The current king of Jodhpurs residence, the palace is worth the hour or two you send there when you visit. It has a detailed history of the construction of the palace and the history of the current royal family of Jodhpur.

Not to forget, the palace has quite the collection of vintage cars.

Umaid Bhawan Palace is divided into 3 sections, the museum which is open to all, the hotel, and the palace where Maharaj and his family stays. The museum shows a variety of artifacts and gives knowledge of how things were back in the day. It's truly a very beautiful place to visit. The architecture, the royalty, the vintage car collection, truly splendid.

You can see it from the fort or from any point in Jodhpur. We went, but didn t pay the entry as many tourists told us it didn t worth it. It appears that the museum part it s almost nothing. The rest is closed for the guests of the hotel. I recommend to see it just from far away. It is nice enough.

The Maharaj did this, the Maharaj did that and look, the Maharaj even made a palace to help the people
Okay let me go with the positives first. Terrific job preserving the palace, the artefacts etc. Great antique cars (Rolls Royce et al). And well done with the curation of a museum with pics and stories. Its definitely worth a visit to see to most royal of palaces in India.
But c'mon. A little less flattery of the Maharaja perhaps? A touch of the subtle and the understated here and there for variety? A little more about Jodhpur and less of here's-the-Maharaja-with-the-duke-of-somewhereshire? And pray save the story about the Maharaja making the palace as a Keynsian effort to help his subjects. Think harder guys, give it a better spin ya?
Anyhoo. Definitely worth a visit to see the palace and check out the museum. Not expensive either - just Rs 30 if I remember right. The polar opposite revenue model to the Udaipur City Palace Museum, though, to be fair, this museum is probably a tenth as big as Udaipur's.History of building the Umaid Bhawan Palace is linked to a curse by a saint who had said that a period of drought will follow the good rule of the
Rathore Dynasty . Thus, after the end of about 50-year reign of Pratap Singh, Jodhpur faced a severe drought and famine conditions in the 1920s for a period of three consecutive years. The farmers of the area faced with famine conditions sought the help of the then king Umaid Singh, [3] who was the 37th Rathore ruler of Marwar at Jodhpur, [4] to provide them with some employment so that they could survive the famine conditions. The king, in order to help the farmers, decided to build a lavish palace. He commissioned Henry Vaughan Lanchester as the architect to prepare the plans for the palace; Lanchester was a contemporary of Sir
Edwin Lutyens who planned the buildings of the New Delhi government complex. Lanchester patterned the Umaid Palace on the lines of the New Delhi building complex by adopting the theme of domes and columns. [3] The palace was designed as a blend of western technology and Indian architectural features. [4]
The palace was built at a slow pace as its initial objective was to provide employment to the famine-stricken farmers in the area. The foundation stone was laid in 1929. About 2,000 to 3,000 people were employed in its construction. [5] Occupation of the palace by the Maharaja came after its completion in 1943, and close to the period of Indian Independence . There was some criticism for embarking on an expensive project but it had serve

The main motive behind the construction of the palace was the welfare of the people. Following the prosperous rule of the Rathore rule, a saint's curse condemned Jodhpur to a drought for three consecutive years. The farmers faced extreme conditions of famine and pleaded the then ruler Umaid Singh for help. In order to help his subjects and give them employment, Umaid Singh commissioned the construction of the Umaid Palace. Architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester was assigned with the job of conceptualising the design and he designed the palace along the lines of New Delhi's government complex. The palace was designed such that it incorporated western technology as well as classical Indian architectural features.

Now Umaid Bhawan Palace is a luxury hotel which offers a taste of the regal to all its patrons. In addition to being of utmost historical value, this attraction offers amazing encounters ranging from heritage walks to unforgettable dining experiences. The hotel wing is managed by Taj Hotels and owing to its unparalleled hospitality, has been voted as the "Best Hotel in the World" at the Traveller's Choice Award. The palace was built in the year 1943 and is inhabited by Jodhpur's royal family even today.

At present, the 347 - room palace has been divided into three parts. One part is the residence of the royal family, where the tourists are not allowed to enter. Incidentally, it is one of the largest private residences in the world and is currently inhabited by Raja Gaj Singh and his family. The other part houses a museum which displays a rich collection of photographs, arms, clocks, stuffed animals and many other possessions of the royal family.
The third part of the palace has been converted into a five-star hotel and offers the most exquisite services to its clientele. It is one of the most popular hotels in Jodhpur. Perched atop the mighty Chittar Hill, this palace is often referred to as the Chittar Palace too. To add to the beauty of the palace, there is a beautiful garden outside with lush greenery and different varieties of flowers. A visit to this Palace can make you step into a sense of royalty.

Truly called the taj Mahal of Rajasthan.

Truly called the taj Mahal of Rajasthan.
However, half of the property is occupied by Taj and for the other half, only ground floor is open to public.

Umaid Bhavan museum has some very nice history displayed . It takes about 45 minutes to complete the visit . The museum has exhibits of stuffed leopards, Crockery used by The Royal Family. The classic cars of the Maharajas are also on display in the garden in front of the museum.

On Display is amazing Collection of Clocks and a huge flag presented by Queen Victoria.

Its a display of Royalty. A beautiful construction that is mostly converted to a classy hotel and the balance is a museum. There is a segment that displays vintage cars. One should not miss the grand entrance with the helipad in front. However, the richness of the place was in a cheap contrast to the behavior of the guide who was in a hurry to finish the tour, not adding much value in exchange for the tips that was pocketed before the trip started, by demand.
One of the best hotel in the world. It is one of the historic palace turned into a luxury hotel. Many of the famous personalities weeding took place in this hotel.
