About SWBIDC
SWBIDC: Empowering Local Businesses and Communities in Brooklyn, New York
SWBIDC, or the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation, is a non-profit organization that aims to promote economic development and improve the quality of life for businesses and residents in Sunset Park, Red Hook, and Gowanus neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Since its inception in 1978, SWBIDC has been working tirelessly to create a sustainable business environment that fosters growth and prosperity for all.
At SWBIDC, we believe that local businesses are the backbone of any community. That's why we offer a wide range of services to help small businesses thrive. Our team of experts provides technical assistance on everything from business planning to marketing strategies. We also offer access to capital through our loan programs and grants.
One of our most successful initiatives is the Industrial Business Zone (IBZ) program. This program was created by SWBIDC in partnership with the City of New York's Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to provide tax incentives and other benefits for industrial businesses located within designated IBZs. The goal is to preserve industrial jobs while promoting sustainable development.
SWBIDC also works closely with local government agencies such as the Department of Small Business Services (SBS), Department of City Planning (DCP), Department of Transportation (DOT), and others to advocate for policies that benefit local businesses. We believe that collaboration between public agencies and private organizations like ours is essential for creating a thriving business environment.
In addition to supporting local businesses, SWBIDC also focuses on improving the quality of life for residents in our communities. We work with community-based organizations on projects related to affordable housing, workforce development, education initiatives, environmental sustainability efforts among others.
Our commitment towards sustainability can be seen through various green initiatives such as solar panel installations at industrial buildings which have helped reduce energy costs significantly while reducing carbon footprint at large scale level.
We are proud partners with many organizations including NYCEDC’s Made In NY initiative which promotes film production industry within city limits; Center For Urban Pedagogy(CUP) which creates educational tools about urban issues; Fifth Avenue Committee(FAC) which provides affordable housing solutions among other things; Red Hook Initiative(RHI) providing youth empowerment programs etc.,
At SWBIDC we understand how important it is for communities' economic growth & stability hence we strive hard every day towards achieving this goal by empowering small business owners & entrepreneurs alike while ensuring equitable distribution across all sectors without any discrimination whatsoever based on race or ethnicity etc.,
In conclusion: If you're looking for an organization dedicated towards promoting economic development & improving quality-of-life then look no further than Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation(SWBIDC). With over four decades worth experience under their belt coupled with strong partnerships across various sectors they have proven themselves time again as one-stop-shop solution provider when it comes down supporting small-businesses & communities alike!
