As many of the reviews have stated, after you buy the bike, you are on your own. Also Marcy does kind of hover over anyone entering the store. I bought a bike, asked it not to be built till I bought some parts in, they built it anyway and wanted to charge me to add the new parts regardless? Odd? Other than Jason, who is a mechanic at the store, and knows what he is talking about, not a single person there could give me a straight answer on the bike or compatible parts. Most of the guys I know who are bike enthusiats would laugh at the service here. I ended up returning the bike and buying it at Chilkoot Cyclery in Stillwater. The owner refunded my purchase price at least, minus the 50 bucks in credit card fees. Though I doubt the service will change, next time maybe I will just buy my next bike from Bikes Direct online and call it a day. Maybe the other locations in this chain fare better? I was at the Midtown one and the guys there seemed much cooler.

Freewheel is an inclusive and friendly environment, and many of my favorite staff have been there for years. It's also my favorite shop because there's absolutely no pretension from the staff. I can walk into the shop in heels and a dress, and I don't get any attitude because I'm not in full biking gear, or shopping for a $5,000 bike. I can buy parts for my brick-on-wheels of a '64 Schwinn Collegiate, and they're in stock and comparatively priced. The shop floor is roomy, they have a free parking lot, and the automatic sliding door is really handy when you're bringing in your bike for repairs. Once one of the employees even helped me special order the last of a specific helmet from the supplier when they were out. So much West Bank Bike Love. Thanks, Freewheel!

I got a really good deal on a new bike, but the sales technique used here made me not trust them to ask for advice on biking. The saleswoman kept trying to upsell on everything from water bottle cages to spray guards, telling me I definitely needed dry and wet lube for my commute and a flat kit and a extra tube for my 1.2 mile daily commute.

I would not come back unless I knew exactly what I was buying here.

Sam went the extra distance to help solve the rear shock issue on my Stumpjumper. He Also found a crack in my chain stay during his inspection that had gone noticed and could have been very bad had it broke during a ride. You are lucky to have such knowledgeable and dedicated bike professionals on staff. I would defiantly recommend Freewheel to others. Thanks again for the great service, Jim Miller

Stop by here today with a couple of my buddies. We were on a bike ride and he got a flat, we called them and ended up walking the bike there. They got to the bike within 5 minutes of us being there and fixed it in another 5 minutes. We were in and out very quickly and were able to finish our bike ride.

Good sales department, with good selection of equipment and cycling related apparel. However, I've had multiple problems with the repair department. I had an alignment problem that multiple technicians were incapable of diagnosing. Additionally, a technician installed a rear cassette and chain incorrectly. In the latter case, the error caused further damage to the drivetrain.

I have now taken my bike to another shop to fix mistakes made by the Freewheel service department twice, and will not be returning to their store.

I've been treated extremely well by the staff at Freewheel Bike. I've never been made to feel anything but 'important', even if I'm only in to ask some questions. I believe that Freewheel Bike genuinely sees anyone who comes into their stores as the reason they (Freewheel Bike) exist.

Brought my road bike there. Excellent, knowledgeable sales staff.

Had an issue a year later with it...brought it in. Their mechanic Allison took one look at my bike, diagnosed the issue, fixed it on the spot...no charge. They could have gouged me if they wanted. Great bike shop, great people.

Knowledgeable and very helpful sales staff (looking at you, Marcy) and great maintenance staff (Brent). They went out of their way to track down the bikes I wanted to try out, in the right size. Lots of great expert advice in selecting a new bike and great attention to detail in making sure it was the right fit and ready to ride. Thank you!

They were pretty helpful, and pointed out an upcoming issue on my bike. They didn't push me when I told them that I just didn't have the cash right now to fix it, but I am glad they pointed it out/gave me a pretty reasonable estimate so I can budget for it. I think the person who helped me was named Alex, and he was great!

The technicians at the West Bank location went above and beyond what was specified in the tune-up package I selected. They were helpful and transparent with the level of necessity of parts replacements. Even though I paid over $300, the service I received felt like a steal. Thank you!

Freewheel is my favorite bike shop in town. I have come here many times for small fixes, to getting a wheel build kit. Repair service is good, straight forward, and honest.

The bicycle selection here is excellent. They carry a lot of Surly, Salsa, and Trek bikes. For a bike nerd like me, it is heaven. However, the sales staff are very opinionated. I came in to look at 26 inch hardtail mountain bikes, and before showing me the 26ers, the guy brought me straight over to the 29ers and 650s. He was relentless. It was a friendly debate, and I learned a lot, and even kind of enjoyed it, but I had to ask him three times before he actually showed me to the bikes I was looking for.

Another small issue I had at this shop was with the service department. I came in for a very complicated project. The head mechanic talked to me, and was pretty convincing that HE was going to be the one doing the work. He had promised to have it done three days later. I came in a week later, and it was still not done. I asked him what happened and right in front of me, he started borderline yelling at a mechanic, who was about my age, for not getting it done. It eventually got done perfectly, though, and I would still not bring my bike anywhere else.

Bottom line: great shop, great bikes, careful with the sales staff :)

I needed to find an unusual size tube in an emergency for my wheelchair. I called around, and checked online - the soonest I could find was over a week. Freewheel had a stack, with options, for the lowest of the prices I saw, plus buy 3, get the 4th free. They were friendly, and had the products waiting when I arrived.

While I was at the store, my car and phone battery died. I asked to use their phone to call for a jump, which they facilitated, along with charging my phone, then they jumped my car.

I am very appreciative for their assistance, but also, it is rare and wonderful to be able to visit a local bike store and be treated like any other customer and be able to find what I need to purchase.

Solid service. 3 stars because they charged me $29 for a new single speed chain after labor which seemed steep compared to other shops I visited. Still I will likely stop by again in the future.

35 years riding..... 20 years commuting daily. Freewheel West Bank for life. Never once had a weird experience there. Wonderful humans and the best products. QBP and Trek/Bontrager Family are easy to get behind, and I've learned more about cycling and life in that shop than just about anywhere. THANK YOU for many years of amazing service, Freewheel Bike! - James Patrick - Slam Academy, Gamut Gallery.

This is an awesome bike shop. I go here for all my bike needs. They do an amazing job, and they are very knowledgeable. They are happy to answer any questions I have including repairing things on my own. There was one time that I only had $20 dollars on me and the cashier changed the price on some tubes so that I could still afford a deal they were having on buy 3 get one free. I have also brought my bike in to have a wheel trued, and they didn't even charge me for it. That wasn't the first time they have done that for me either. I just had a freehub rebuilt, and they quoted me two days, but it was done in a few hours. The prices are a little higher than what you will find online, but stores have overhead, and the knowledge and service I have received from this shop makes that little extra well worth it. What they don't have in-shop they can order from their catalog. I have ordered many parts from them and have always done an excellent job in getting the right parts in a reasonable time frame. Try them out, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Good service as you spend money and purchase expensive products. Terrible customer service post purchase. Should you have an issue with a product, you will be blamed for a defect, or store will just stonewall and do nothing, even on products that have good warranties. Lazy and arrogant service post purchase I think. Also, on service jobs you will not get accurate estimates, but get nasty surprise when you are picking up and paying double original quote. You get much better customer service on-line, an email and return envelope and problem if fixed most of the time. As much as I like to support local businesses, they have to deliver on their end as well and provide customer service that is at least equal to the on-line stores. Unfortunately, not the case here. I will take my business elsewhere. At REI for example, your get courteous service when you have a problem with a product, and they fix the issue without blaming the customer, exact opposite of Freewheel.

Service was over the top. I went to one location to try a bike I saw online but it was out of stock there so they sent me to the West Bank location. When I arrived the bike I was interested in was already pulled up front, pedals and day lights attached, and helmet ready for my test ride. Not only was the bike and price just what I was looking for Chris helped me put together a couple additional things I needed to accommodate my weekly commute. Products ordered arrived same day and I got emails and calls letting me know my gear was in.

Very knowledgeable and extremely friendly team! Freewheel will be my go to LBS in the twin cities from now on.

I know nothing about road bikes, and I got very good advice and recommendations from staff here for my road bike and trainer goals. This is definitely a shop with a fan base of cyclists that are way more hardcore than I will ever be, and even with the extra cool atmosphere I still felt very welcome. Also with the membership I was able to save A LOT of money and come in under the $ limit I had set for myself. Thanks!

Picked up a new salsa journeyman, fantastic bike for a great price! Also went to three different Freewheel stores to find the right bikes for my wife and I, and EVERY worker at EVERY store was incredibly nice and so helpful. The experience couldn't have been better, I would recommend anyone looking for a bike to go to Freewheel.

Marci is amazing and she definitely knows her bikes. She is the reason why we have been buying bikes at Freewheel for years! Even with the pandemic and strict rules about only one person allowed into the store at a time, she took the necessary time with us.

Sales staff is awesome. The repair crew was thorough with my crusty bike. A comp tune up and the thing is like new. I called for a scheduling and the woman was so positive she suggested a pair of snow tires within my budget that are fantastic! Can t recall names but I always recommend Freewheel for all things bicycle. I was reminded how to use a tire tool and was given an exhaustive explanation of the new CO2 tire inflation technology. I made great choices with Marcy help and spent wisely! :)

Been there twice. Once they were very helpful. The next time it was the opposite. Maybe I just caught the guy on a bad day but he was almost combative. Funny because it was the same guy as before. Anyways I asked him to look into something for me on a Salsa Bucksaw and blew me off like I was wasting his time. Funny thing is I had $5k burning a hole in my pocket. I bought the bike that day at another shop. Funny because Freewheel wanted list and the other shop was 20% off. On $5k it ended up saving me $1000!!! Thanks for shooing me away!!

I've purchased both my road bikes from Freewheel West Bank. Since day one, I've always been welcomed by name when I come in, and given prompt attention to my needs. The service department is outstanding. They too, have always been welcoming and respectful, listening to any issues or needs I may have, and addressing them promptly. I have not hesitation what so ever recommending Freewheel Bike for anyone looking to purchase a bike, or to have the one they own serviced.

We've got a lot of great bike shops in Minneapolis, but freewheel is one of the best. Their staff is super knowledgeable but not pushy. They're happy to just chat with you. In the past year Ive brought in one bike for a complete overhaul and have also purchased shoes and other accessories. A few years back I bought a full bike from them. I've always had a positive experience here and would highly recommend them.

These guys are awesome. Last time I brought a bike in, the part that broke was somewhat specialized and not in stock. I didn't want to wait to order one, so he called other locations and finally the local bike collective.

Where else do employees go out of their way like that for you?

Excellent experience. Went in with a tearing tire, left with a brand new tire, and the knowledge to replace another.

The specific staff member I worked with was fantastic because she was very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. She even taught me how to install a new tire, check for leaks in the tube, and avoid pinching.

I definitely recommend this store and it should be your new go-to place if it is near your daily commute!

Went in today hoping to find a hybrid Trek around $1K. I haven't bought a bike in 17 years, so I had a list of things that I wanted but didn't know if I would find what I was looking for. When I walked into Freewheel Bike, I was immediately greeted by Marcy and she was SO HELPFUL! They had so many Trek bikes in stock, in my size. I test rode a few and liked a few aspects of each of the ones that I rode, but didn't find "the one". Marcy was able to add a handlebar extension to the bike with the front suspension that I loved and I was able to walk away with my dream bike. AND it was under budget, in my favorite color scheme (black). One of the most positive purchasing experiences I've ever had, thank you Marcy!!

About Surly Bikes

Surly Bikes is a company that specializes in manufacturing high-quality steel bikes for people who are passionate about cycling. The company was founded in 1998 and has since then been dedicated to producing bikes that are not only durable but also fun to ride. Surly Bikes is known for its unique designs, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.

One of the things that set Surly Bikes apart from other bike manufacturers is their focus on steel frames. Steel frames have been around for a long time and were once the standard material used in bike manufacturing. However, with the advent of new materials like aluminum and carbon fiber, steel frames fell out of favor. But Surly Bikes saw the potential in steel frames and decided to make it their specialty.

The result is a range of bikes that are not only strong but also comfortable to ride. Steel has a natural flexibility that makes it ideal for absorbing shocks from rough roads or trails. This means that riders can enjoy a smoother ride even on bumpy terrain.

Another thing that sets Surly Bikes apart from other manufacturers is their commitment to customization. They understand that every rider has different needs and preferences when it comes to cycling, which is why they offer a wide range of options when it comes to frame sizes, colors, components, and accessories.

Surly Bikes offers several models of bikes designed for different types of riding such as touring, commuting or mountain biking. One popular model among cyclists is the Long Haul Trucker which was designed specifically for long-distance touring rides with features like multiple mounting points for racks & fenders along with comfortable geometry making it an ideal choice for those who love adventure cycling.

In addition to their focus on quality products and customization options, Surly Bikes also places great importance on sustainability practices throughout its operations including using recycled materials wherever possible while minimizing waste during production processes.

Overall if you're looking for serious steel bikes made by people who don't take themselves too seriously then look no further than Surly Bikes! Their dedication towards producing high-quality bicycles combined with an unwavering commitment towards sustainability makes them one of the best choices available today!
