RUN! RUN from this place! There are so many other jobs out there for CDL holders, we are in high demand. The truth is I should have known this company was bad news from the start. They pay $12 an hour for orientation and don t even provide lunch. The orientation is conducted in a cramped module office that you have to drive to, which is in Mayer AZ. Then they pay $12 an hour for training which can be anywhere from three days to two weeks. Then after you are on your own, you have to work the night shift with little to no support running concrete or fly ash to plants. The pay is by the load which I have estimated to be always between $14-$18 an hour and usually it is the lower amount most of the time. There is no overtime pay after 40 hours. This is why the company pays by the load so they can get away with not paying overtime. They want CDL holders that are not wise enough to know they are being taken advantage of. That is probably why a lot of their new hires are students right out of schooling, which is the reason for their CSA score. They will require you to work 50-65 hours a week with no incentive after 40 hours. It is also slip seating which is horrible if there is a delay of any kind for the other driver, you will be stuck waiting for truck with no compensation. Then if you have to call John, the assistant driver manager or Dave, the driver manager, they will go on and on about how great they are and be sure to inform you how many years they have been super truckers. They will tell you about drivers making 60-70k a year to get you to come on board but what they don t tell you is that those drivers have been with the company for over two years and make higher percentage per load and work 60 plus hours a week for that income, which amounts to about just over $20 an hour. The pay is very low for the amount of hours/work they expect.
When Sara or one of the other ladies in Dispatch sends you a load for the night it can be one hour to six hours from the time they text you that you have to leave your house. So you are on call when you should be enjoying your time off. Day shift has huge advantage because they get the text the same time as you do the day before. You will have to text/call dispatch or other drivers for directions to concrete plants like M1, DRM 5, CP 159, and many more. This information should be easily accessible to drivers so they are not wasting time driving around looking for entrance to a place or the silos, which doesn t bother the company because they pay by the load. They don t care about your time.
Be careful not to disagree with Sara or any of the other girls in dispatch about any load they send you. They will respond very rudely and tell you how long they have been doing their job and that you can find another job. Dave the driver manager is obviously under their authority because he will take their side even if they are wrong about how long it takes someone to do a specific run which you already have done. Of course they don t calculate a proper pre-trip, restroom breaks, etc. Bottom line is that drivers are treated like low man on the totem pole at this company and are paid accordingly. They will also want you to violate your 11 hour driving time mandated by DOT and use your 16 hour exemption often. Not many can do there Joseph City to Tucson run without working 14-16 hours that night. Oh and by the way I was given this run twice within two weeks of telling them I was having a hard time adapting to night shift. Real accommodating!
Last but not least, when you are stuck somewhere for 45 minutes to fix a tire and two and a half hour delay at Joseph City because security had to clear me the first time I went to this plant, they don t pay you the promised $17 an hour for delayed pay. I put in paperwork and even called Caitlin in HR but never saw that money. I could go on but I think you get the point.
Very hard working company. New trucks, pay is more than fair. They run just like an otr company but your home every day. Good choice.
I recently was employed here washing trailers and on many occasions suffered from chemical burns which I kept track of by seeing a doctor after work on multiple occasions. Superior Bulk did absolutely nothing about it. I contacted my attorney today and they had me fill out a form for the Industrial commission of Arizona and Superior Bulk has 21 days to respond. I've also saved many text messages from Dave talking down to me along with John and recorded voice calls. They even played head games saying I'd recieve a 3 dollar raise but I'd never received it. Do not work here. I've contacted Osha, I contacted the state about missing wages and contacted a attorney and faxed over all texts, voice recordings, medical documents, etc..
If you ever expect this company to be responsible for breaking your windshield then do not bother. They use any excuse they can not to stand behind what they are responsible for so obviously this company would not be one you would want to do business with. I am sure they would not stand behind their work or contract with you as well. If you do good luck with that.
Inever worked here an dont plan to. I notice they are always hiring for drivers so I read the reviews. Now I know why they are always hiring. O won't waste my time applying.
I should have listened to the previous review. This place is beyond words. Dishonest with zero integrity. Hired by a likable enough young kid named Bobby and yes the initial Training is $12 an hour. I had 38.75 hrs at this rate was turned loose on my own and worked a shadow run at the 23% of load pay (still have no idea how much that paid for the 14 hrs it took), then did one more solo run before quitting after an 11 1/2 hr shift that I wasn t going to be paid for. Yes that is correct! I still can t even comprehend their methods.
As for the final pay check and state law of an employer having 7 days to pay you? Good luck with that as well. I am at 18 days with still no check. They share an office inside Desert Ready Mix in Mesa. There is not one mention of Superior Bulk on the building, door or even the inside (a clue in it self let alone the fact that the office address doesn t even come up on google anywhere). I went in and spoke to a very nice Girl who pulled up my pay info etc, I saw it on her computer screen etc and she said it was mailed out the day before. Well that was 8 days ago. I live 3 miles from the office and am familiar with local mail. Still no check! Called yesterday morning and left a voicemail for accounting and of course nothing. Filing with the labor board today. These people are beyond dirty. Do not work for them.
Just one of their insane methods is the fact that each day you will not find out what time you work until around 16:30 hrs. (You start on nights, 6 days a week) So imagine receiving a text message at 4:30pm that you have to wake up and respond to that may tell you to be at work anywhere from 6pm to midnight! There are no set hours or shifts! Ever. You had better have some one to answer your phone for you if you want decent sleep. Often times turn around is your 10 hr break. So that s off, drive home, sleep drive back to work etc. Its no wonder they literally had 5 accidents totaling trucks last year alone! You can expect to work anywhere from 8 hrs to 15 hrs, again this varries every day. My very first night I woke up at 4:30 and didn t wind up going to work until 11:30 pm, the next night was 7:30 pm???? You ll never see what the load actually pays just what s on your check. It s 23% of the load but again you have no idea what each load pays and there are dozens of different routes. Honestly the percentage could be 3% of actual cost and you would never know.
I could literally go on and on but steer clear of this place. Look at their adds nearly every day on Craigslist, that should tell you they can t keep people. I started out working 100-120 weeks in the oil fields, owned my own OTR company that was sold right before this job. Not afraid of hard work or the hours but allergic to BS and dishonest people. You are warned!
Superior Bulk is a professional yet courteous business.
