A man driving a fuel truck with this company's log...

A man driving a fuel truck with this company's logo on it almost ran me off the road today by cutting me off. It was raining, the road conditions were terrible, and the man was driving reckless. I flashed my lights at him, which angered him enough for him to decide to brake check me. This man is a liability. If you're going to put people's lives at risk, don't do it in the company truck.

The gentlemen on the line crew that came to fix our power were amazing! They did a great job and even though they were super tired I am sure. Waved and honked and waved at our girls as they left our farm. We had been out of power for 4 days and these guys were amazing, efficient and got the power back on!!! Thanks SU for these wonderful men from I believe (Chimney Rock). With ice coming in again tonight I am thinking we may see them again soon!

Sumter Utilities is working as a contractor for Duke Energy in my area. They set new poles and ran new wires and as part of the work they did, they drove up my driveway, across my yard and across my sidewalk leaving ruts in the yard and broken concrete on the driveway and sidewalk. I reached out to Duke energy and their reps were professional and polite. I explained the situation to them and they created a ticket to have the issue resolved. I was contacted by a Sumter Utilities supervisor (John was his name) and discussed the situation. He said he would get the yard fixed and meet me at the house the following week to look at the concrete. I met at the house the next week with John and another Sumter Utilities employee. He stated that there were already some cracks in the concrete (with grass popping up in some cracks and I agreed) but many new cracks with clean fresh breaks and sunken broken ares. He told me "the cracks and sunken areas were due to the driveway being improperly installed and not pre-packed as it should have been when installed originally" (like 30 years ago). In western NC, we've had one of the wettest years on record and the when you drive a big heavy truck on concrete, what do you think it will do? Well, it sunk and broke. Regardless, they said that all they would do is patch it with some concrete sealer but they would not replace the concrete! I wasn't asking for them to replace the whole driveway, only the section they broke. He literally said to me, "Sounds to me like you are just trying to get a new driveway out of the deal". He then went on to tell me "I've already spent $500 fixing the yard!" as if it was my fault that they had to pay someone $500 to fix the tire ruts in the yard. Once he mentioned that there are already a bunch of cracks and that he wasn't going to fix it, even if they did create a bunch of new cracks, I said that I would just file a complaint with the Utilities Commission if they weren't going to take responsibility for their damage they did with their trucks. I have my CDL and have driven big trucks for many years and I would have NEVER driven a truck up that driveway because I know it would crack! Sumter utilities should have known that too. All I asked was for them to replace what they damaged. Once I mentioned filing a complaint with the Utilities Commission, his whole demeanor changed, he became irritated and the conversation ended. I knew at that point that I would just have to go through the Utilities Commission and post bad reviews. I posted a pic of the driveway with the cracks circled. There are more cracks than this in the driveway outside of the frame of this picture further up the driveway as well as on the sidewalk but I didn't post them because you get the idea.

As one reviewer wrote regarding a driveway, Sumpter trashed my yard by killing several trees and shrubs which acted as a privacy barrier, crushing landscaping with huge trucks, leaving ruts, leaving broken branches, and breaking my personal property. Sumpter was acting as a subcontractor for Ga Power, which is owned by Southern Co.
I met with a "boss" field worker. He denied everything possible and raised his voice. The episode reminded me of a stubborn child and I wasn't intimidated. He agreed to do certain things which he finally admitted damaging after his tantrum, such as replace three trees and replace a light Sumpter broke. He stated he was going to a nursery to get three TREES, and it turned out that these were 2.5 gallon saplings FROM LOWES (they cost 15 or 20 bucks each). The trees were to replace my privacy barrier--- so yeah, right, maybe in several years if they live.
Most insulting of all, he stated he spent $90 on the replacement light. He left me a used light in a damaged box, the dome of the light was cracked in at least 5 places. It obviously was used and damaged.
No paperwork, no release, and in my opinion, highly unprofessional, rude, and deceptive. He went so far as to straight lie about several things. Pathetic! I asked his coworker this man's name, and he refused to reveal his "bosses" name. ABSOLUTELY AN EMBARRASSMENT TO SOUTHERN COMPANY AND SUMPTER UTILITIES. I will follow up on this with Ga Power.

Driving back to NC from Atlanta and one if their tuff guys, in the middle if a severe thunderstorm, tried running me off of the road. Mot once, but twice. It wasnt an accident either because when I tried catching up to him to get the name of the company off the side of the vehicle, he took off at over 90 mph just to get away. I had to go almost a hundred mph at times, in the severe rain, just to catch up to jim. If he hadn't been blocked in by the semi trucks I never would have caught up to him. Only after I made the phone call to the company about the driver, did he slow down. I am pretty sure he still works for the company. I bet he didn't know I had my child asleep in the back either. Nice job.

After 56 hours without power and heat due to the recent windstorm that hit Northern Virginia, our local utility company continued to be overwhelmed. We were told to expect at least 2 more days without power. Then the team from Sumter Utilities rolled into our neighborhood and within minutes had all of us back with power! One of the men advised that they had been on the road for 29 hours trying to help as many communities as they could as they drove north from their homes. What wonderful, selfless people to give up their weekend to help strangers! I can see from prior postings that this wasn't the first time either! From everybody on James Drive in Alexandria, we thank everybody on the SU team!
