Beautiful museum and a must for Ghibli fans. I only wish I could understand more Japanese, since the exhibits don't have English descriptions. New exhibit every year! Can't wait to go back!
Some tips: Try to go before noon. Someone in your group might have to sacrifice an hour to wait in line if you want to eat in the Straw Hat restaurant...better to bring snacks and enjoy the park scenery instead. They have rentable lockers if you're there early enough.

A great museum and lovely surrounding area. I suggest you walk from the station rather than take the train. You get to watch a short 15 to 20 minute film and explore at your own pace. The only downside is how crowded it can be.

We go the same distance to come to Japan, we go to the Ghibli museum because my children and I love the Ghibli universe. We get kicked out because there is no sales counter, it is only on reservation via the internet.
I am mad with rage to see the disappointment of my children and me.
A rotten organization. We do a ton of museum in Japan without having to reserve anything. Thank you and go on your way.
The m ... of. the sadness of my children makes me sick.
We are far from the childish universe of Ghibli.

It certainly suffers from over-exposure. It's very difficult to get tickets, even weeks in advance, without paying more than for the Uffizi and Louvre combined. It goes without saying, as good as Ghibli movies are, this is not the Uffizi or Louvre. Consider also 1000 yen and 90 minutes for a round trip from Tokyo.

This is terrible.

This is terrible.
What will you go to and what will you go to see?
Self-enthusiasm, a world of self-satisfaction.

A place worth visiting

A place worth visiting
All Ghibli exhibitions coming to Taiwan are not 1/10 of this side,
The only criticism is that online ticket purchases are very unfriendly to overseas people,
Because it is difficult to snap up, and there is no way to refund the ticket after swiping the card.
In order to come here, I bought three tickets for bad time.
Only a very large itinerary was modified to come here.

Simply the cleverest, most charming, thoughtful (small) museum I've ever visited, with the added bonus of 20 minute animations exclusive to the venue's cinema. A treat as much for adults as children - including for a limited time an adult cat bus - especially if you're interested in discovering the creative process behind animated movies or the varying styles in the art form. Very busy, despite limiting numbers, and the recommendation for foreign visitors would be to arrive as close to opening to avoid the crowds to the maximum possible extent.

Visiting the Ghibli museum you physically enter the fantastic world created by the master Hayao Miyazaki !!!! Beautiful, visit the internal cinema to see one of the Ghibli courts screened exclusively in the museum. Attention: Generally tickets must be booked several weeks before.

One of the coolest things I've visited in Tokyo. It is worth the money, it is worth walking a lot, it is worth the cold (we came in winter), just to be able to visit this museum. I spent it like a real baby, it's nice and interesting, yes ... Prepare your pocket if you want something cool from the store, it's quite expensive with some things.

The museum was as magical as I thought it'd be and I chose to walk there from the station instead of taking the bus. There were Totoro street signs to guide us along the way and the museum spared no effort to ghibli-theme the entire place. From the entrance tickets (which were actual Ghibli movie film) to the beautiful toilets, to the magical movie theatre and the beautiful stained glass all over the building, the Ghibli fan in me was so satisfied. Do remember to go for the earliest slot as the museum does get crowded quickly and book your tickets the moment the come out every 10th of the month!

It was a place where I could feel the charm of creating movies and telling the world of stories to people.
It is carefully built to the details in the building. There are also some stained glass, and the time has passed quickly while watching carefully one by one such as characters being drawn!

The nearest station is Kichijoji Station while saying Mitaka. Recently there are more Chinese than Japanese. I am surprised that it is made properly until it passes through the details of the building. It is worthwhile to go once.

If you're a fan of anything by Studio Ghibli or Miyazaki Hayao got shouldn't miss this. About 20 minutes from Shinjuku by train and then 5 minutes by bus. Don't expect a big theme park, instead, look forward to a beautifully maintained and intricately detailed set of buildings and small moments. Stained - glass windows featuring Totoro, lavishly painted and detailed ceilings, the life size robot from Laputa, winding staircases and lots of other things await! (Even your entry ticket is a piece of celluloid with a Ghibli scene on it) Don't forget to book your tickets in advance and turn up on time...

After entering, you can look around as you would like a child without having to decide the route on purpose. If you are not a lover of Ghibli anime, you may only see storyboards and cels except for moving exhibits.
Is it a special exhibition now? It was good to have a cat bus where adults can ride.
It's hard to book tickets, so please improve -1

This museum is located nearby the Mitaka train station, and from there, we found many meter markers along the way. It made our walk simple, we got to the museum without any trouble.

We walk alongside a large park, and at the end, we saw a large sign for the museum. There was an yellow-orange building behind it, with Totoro welcoming everyone in a ticket booth looking structure. This is NOT the main entrance, but more like a back exit. We walked a bit more towards the front of the building, where the main entrance is located. The tickets are set as timed entry, and we got one of the first entry tickets, 10am entry. When we got there before 10am, we saw a line already forming, but maybe only around 20 or so people. About the time the 10am came around, the line behind us was really long!

When we entered, we were directed to a theater. Before going into the theater, our paper tickets were exchanged with a hard tickets. These tickets are made of pieces of the actual 35mm film prints that were used in theaters. How cool!

The museum itself is not that big, but it is packed with so many things to look at, including their rooftop garden with 5-meter tall robot soldier! We went there during their special exhibition, "Delicious! Animating Memorable Meals" which is a perfect exhibition for a foodie!

Here, they had all sorts of real-sized food that was featured in Ghibli movies, made with wax. They also had art panels full of sketches, videos and even a life-size model of a kitchen from the movie My Neighbor Totoro, and a kitchen of Tiger Moth in Castle in the Sky.

The only thing is that they do NOT allow any kind of photography nor video inside the museum. If you try, a staff will come running and stop you. Outside and rooftop, the photography is allowed.

We had a nice visit here, the museum is really well build and well put together. Totally worth the wait. If you are a fan of Ghibli movies, this museum is a great spot to visit!

Felt subpar. I had high expectations given the hype and near impossibility of snagging tickets for this place, but in the end the experience was fairly shallow with not much wow factor. The movie was definitely cute, and the room with the stop motion animations was pretty amazing, but the overall space was small and felt like part of a larger theme park, less so a museum.

It's a small and cute exhibit. If you are a true fan, you'll appreciate the exhibits. It's 1000 yen admission for a reason though. I'm not sure if it usually gets as busy as my visit, but it was really packed. A little frustrating actually..

Shoot outside the hall ok

I was able to shoot the hood as well.

Anyway, your heart will be washed in a nice place.

There were a lot of people from overseas.

Saturday and Sunday were crowded throughout the building.

Great if you're a lover of Ghibli like me but keep in mind that all the information around the museum is in Japanese and you can't have your phone out so can't use an app to translate them. Would have been really awesome if there'd been some info we could read! The building itself is beautiful, lots of gorgeous Ghibli stained glass etc but don't bother with the gift shop - you can buy the same stuff in Japanese department stores elsewhere anyway.

I went there with two friends. Tickets Must Be reserved in advance, they can be bought every 10th of a month for the following month. The museum ist mostly in japanese, there is a english guide but all the items are mainly in japanese. I was very disappointed as the museum is very small.
+nice Design
-Museum small (After 70 minutes finished)
-Tickets must be bought over 1 month in advance

Make sure you book your tickets in advance as they're very strict with the number of people allowed in the museum each day. There is a cinema where you can view a Ghibli short (keep in mind it won't have subtitles!). There is a fantastic kids play area, a small cafe and great little rooms where you can view Ghibli art! I also recommend walking around Inokashira Park which is right next to the museum! There is also a zoo right nearby if you want to make a day of it with your family!

Great for the kids. Buy tickets ahead of time. You will not be able to get in if you just show up. Tickets are for entrance every two hours.

There is a cat-bus that the kids can climb on, an area showing some of the creative process of putting together the animated films, and a very interesting 3D zoetrope.

Food was tomato soup, hot dog, and soft serve. There is a sit-down restaurant with more stuff but we didn't want to wait for a table.

Like the pilgrimage site of Hayao Miyazaki's animated friends. The ticket purchase method is quite special. In addition to purchasing tickets with the Taiwan special travel agency, the ticket purchase must be rushed to the Internet one month before the visit. The official website is very easy to traffic down. The good time period is very difficult to grab. After the appointment is successful, it can be used today. Enter the park with credentials.
The rule here is that you can only take pictures outside, and the works and objects displayed inside can not be photographed. The glass window on the first floor uses a lot of Ghibli's collages. You can walk around while you walk. There is also a small theater that will play a special short story of the previous works. I originally hoped to see the Totoro's short film, but there is nothing about it. It s a pity that ten works are on the carousel. In another area on the first floor, there were early projectors that let fans know how the film was projected through the machine. On the second floor, there are many original manuscripts, and how to draw them into anime. Fans can look for favorite works to watch carefully. In addition, there is a Totoro bus for children to play. Many children climb up and down on the Totoro bus. Miyazaki The childlike interest of Jun s works is still timeless.
At the top, there is a Sky City robot, which is a popular photo attraction. After all, you can take pictures as you like. If you like photography, you can use the corridor to view the scene. The restaurants attached to the museum are mainly Western-style, and the dining time is also very many people.
Miyazaki's animation is a memory of many people. It seems to have returned to the middle school period, the first time I saw the animation.

Incredible! You get in slots, they opened 10 min before 10am and we were queued, but the pace filled quickly and rooms were busy, so maybe you could start from top floor. There is not much in English, but it is OK.

Great for any Ghibli fan! Keep in mind that this museum is focused on Japanese speakers and most if not all signage is in Kanji. Small children can have fun as well as adults. Beautiful visual experience

The visit is very immersive, a lot of attention was put into small details. Everything is only in Japanese sadly but there is enough visual content to understand what is going on. Do not hesitate to go!

Amazing. A great museum for hardcore Ghibli fans. Great exhibits from the begginings of animation to how a Ghibli film is made. The Cafe isn't terribly expensive and the exclusive Ghibli beer is delicious. Definitely worth going if you can.

If you're a fan of the Ghibli universe it's a magical place that will certainly fill you with nostalgia! The entrance ticket is collector and some can be very expensive! You will also have the opportunity to discover films from studios completely new and distributed only in the museum! Really to do (many times for me)

Even at the only restaurant in the building where shooting is OK, the rules are very strict, and it was said that you should never shoot the background.
The interior is not particularly noticeable and I don't know why. The clerk rushed in at a tremendous speed, so I had the impression that I was always watching.
I have read Mr. Miyazaki's article about the reason for the prohibition of shooting, and I felt Mr. Miyazaki's obsession with considering the improvement of the experience value of the visitors, but it seems that the clerk here is just following the manual. I did.

Very popular location, tickets can't be bought without buying a month earlier.

This time we set off from Taiwan. We could n t buy a ticket in every way we wanted to. Since we ve all been to the Kichijoji area, just walk in and take a look at it. In fact, we have passed all the way from Jingzhitou Park. Many trees have been planted since the way, which is very storytelling. I was quite lucky to have at least photographed the big totoro and the appearance on the outside. We also stayed for half an hour in these simple two places. I really like the atmosphere here !!

Be sure to buy your tickets early to see the style next time.

All Ghibli fans are encouraged to visit. The museum itself is 4 stars if you're into art and animation. 3 stars if you aren't. 5 stars if you're a Ghibli fan.

Taking pictures is prohibited within the museum.

There are many rooms focused on current aspects of Ghibli. A room of exhibits for rotoscopy and the history of animation. An interesting exhibit is a very large zeotrope - a 3D animation exhibit that uses 3D pieces and a strobe light to create the motion effect - it is really cool.

The theatre rotates a set of museum exclusive short films that makes any trip special. Unfortunately, you'll have to plan around the featured film if you want a particular show - such as the Kitten Bus short.

The difficulty with visiting the museum is getting tickets. Visitor numbers are controlled so tickets have to be purchased prior to the visit sometimes months in advance. Tickets cannot be purchased at entry.

During my trip to Japan in 2016, I was fortunate to encounter Tokyo s "first snow in November in 54 years"~ The so-called first snow is the first snow falling in winter, and Tokyo s first snow in November was already 54 years ago. Daizhi! The original meaning of Ghibli is "the hot wind blowing in the Sahara Desert", which forms an alternative contrast with the Ghibli Museum in the snow!
The entire museum is covered in snow like walking into the Hayao Miyazaki animation. There are many manuscripts of the masters of Hayao Miyazaki, as well as undisclosed animation clips, and souvenirs that you can't buy outside. You must collect them when you come here. Fan, because of the snow, after we left the museum, we were able to pinch a snowball and have a snowball fight in the nearby Inokashira Park, giving us rich memories of this journey

People who like Miyazaki and his creative team wil...

People who like Miyazaki and his creative team will naturally be attracted to the pilgrimage by this museum. They present the seemingly unprecedented, unreachable thought entity in front of people. The creative concept stems from a deep respect for and love for the asteroids we live in, and we do not forget to portray humans-the most emotional and complex species on earth, the emotional exchanges between them. The work has the courage to show the ugly side of people naked to the world, but at the same time, it also proves that the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty can help humans survive this painful transition period and evolve to a true high degree of courage. March forward.
