This school is literally the worst school I have been to in my whole school experience. Mind you I came into this school not knowing anyone and the first day it didn't exactly make me feel as though it was a safe place while I felt intimidated by the other students who seemed to get along perfectly. They lack diversity in this school, everybody basically hangs with their own group. The grading system is completely trash your grade will not change no matter how many tests u pass or fail. Also, I would like to say that working with iPads for everything is not a good idea. It is an easy way to get distracted and cheat. Students get no type of education in this school the students run over the teachers and do whatever they want. Teaches will literally tell u to put anything on your work and you will get a good grade on it. Then when the teachers accustom the students to doing nothing they complain when the students don't wanna do anything. Some teachers allow headphone and some do not. I feel as though it was wrong for a teacher to literally destroy a students personal property(the students headphones) with a pair of scissors and hang it on his wall. There is many students in that school that lack proper education because they are literally learning nothing because they are too distracted on their iPad. Also mind u school starts at 7:45 in the morning and finishes at 3:30 in the afternoon and we are marked late at 8:00 when the school is located all the way downtown and I live up far northeast. I don't find it fair I have to walk all them flights of steps to the 7th floor in the morning because I was a minute late and couldn't take the elevator. Therefore it made me more late for class then I already was. They marked somebody late by a minute when they were the ones who held the student back. Also, the principle Dr.Carr has no respect for any of the students or parents. The school does not do a great job at addressing bullying. They have the middle school kids running down the halls bumping into people and running over everybody to get to the lunch room. The lunch rooms are barely big enough to fit anyone when the freshman class gets combined with middle school lunch. I was not properly being educated at this school and I was there from September 8, 2016 until March 20, 2017. March 21 was when I finally starting learning when I transferred to another school. Thank god I learned everything from freshman year in 8th grade because this school literally taught me nothing but how to get downtown. I do not suggest sending your kids to this school because it is not a good school despite the high rating. I was a student at this school and I could not stand it and I wasn't even there for a full year. To conclude this school isn't somewhere u wanna send your kids if they are trying to have a regular high school experience where they put majors over regular classes. They do not have a gym you must travel other places for sport events and they barely have any good sport teams. The school is also in a bad location where a car accident happened right in front of my eyes. You do not wanna put your kid in this kind of danger because imagine I was in the street when this accident happened. There is also lots of construction going on in the area which makes it even more dangerous for students. Teachers don't care about the students. Since Apple sponsors them they suck up to them when Apple comes around. They tell students to be on their best behavior and to not trash talk the school but students have rights to their opinion. The uniform is also very horrible. In the winter girls freeze with skirts on and they can not wear pants at all unless they have gym. But in the summer the sweater type school shirt will have girls dying from the heat. The school seems more of a kiss up more than anything else. A security guard accused me of having my phone out when I was putting my headphones in my pocket in the bathroom when she walked in. Also the security guard got an attitude with me.

As far as public charter schools go, there are many opportunities for students and it is a 1:1 ipad school. The staff is not very diverse and cultural diversity is not celebrated. It is an overall safe school though.

I exceeded my word count in my other account so here we are. I don t even believe that she has a degree for teaching. One this she isn t is encouraging. She talks to 12 year olds as if they were ten years older. She tells them that they ll never be an actor/actress . I m really still shook that she s still even allowed near children. Student s opinions don t matter in this school. No matter whom you go to they ll just make you feel like you re wasting your time. Besides the friends that I came in with at this school (thank god for them), I have only made about a few good friends. Another factor of this school is that their staff is not at all diverse. They are mainly white and while that may not matter in a way, there s really almost nobody that shows an interest or care for diversity and the feelings of diverse students. Well there was one teacher but she s no longer with us, and I wonder why? She was the only teacher that I knew of in that school who got excited and even made sure that everybody knew that it was black history month. She even organized an event specifically for black history month. I didn t truly see racist actions until I came to this school. There was a very certain student who hated black people in general and couldn t stand it when people said Black Lives Matter.

I went today to buy tickets for my daughter show and couldn't believe the way I was spoken to by an employee at the school. I don't know her name because she never introduced herself or greeted me. Every word she spoke to me was nasty and she even ended it with "if I didn't like it, I could just give the tickets back" it took great restraint for me not to feed in, especially when a high school student who overheard how she was speaking came up to me and apologized on behalf of the school. I've been hearing about issues with race and treatment of students of color at the school and this recent incident is making me think it may be true. I am Muslim and was fully garb so I don't know if that's what made her react so harshly. String Theory really needs to reevaluate it's staff and it's policy on racial inclusion and acceptance. Seeing these other reviews from students stating how uncomfortable they feel is quite alarming.

This place has gotten to the point where I am depressed by hearing someone mention "school" to me. I have been to this school for a notably long amount of time and oh boy do I have a lot to say. As far as diversity in teachers go, get ready to be fully booked by white women if you're lucky you'll get one male or racially diverse teacher, but the odds of this are unlikelyq. The location is ridiculous, there's a dangerous intersection you have to cross everyday to walk to the building, there's construction all around the area ,and it does NOT feel like a safe zone to me as a student. I've been hit with things TWICE now by fellow students. They offer bus service but god knows how far away the stop is from my house and how early I'd need to get up so I'm resorted to filthy, germ ridden, loud and inconvenient trains. Not to mention the backlash you get if you lose your transpass, which is a student's fault but seriously I need to get home, cut me some slack. The students here are fine, you get a handful of bullies regularly so that's pretty expected, I've made some friends here, but I probably wouldn't be friends with most outside of school since commonly kids make friends because of how insanely bored they are, I do have one or two close friends here though, and a few I wouldn't mind keeping but you'd expect more since I've been here for more then three years. The lunches are overpriced and sub par, they have limited healthy options every since they scrapped their salad bar, and sandwhiches usually don't get ingredients restocked for a while so get ready for your least favorite cheese, bread, or meat, (I was actually excited when this was introduced but the lines and lack of restocking is ridiculous!). Other items you'd tend to purchase nearly cost the price of the lunch itself, such as water, a small bag of chips, etc, the lines in general are unreal! On top of these problems the curriculum is overzealous. I have homework around the clock, and the teachers don't let up about it. If you're fine with homework every night + weekends, then I guess you're fine but I don't feel as fit for it. If you decide to do the work every night, maybe put some extra effort you're thrown into AP classes and get a higher work load (as if that was achievable), that has almost always brung stress to students. The teachers say they understand your pain but, if they truly did you'd think that they'd be even the slightest easier on you. I'm glad to say my time with this school is now limited seeing as I am to be moved to another fairly soon. I might sound lazy to some people and as if I'm being silly but waking up early every morning and usually not having time to eat breakfast, or have time after school to socialize or relax for a reasonable amount of time gets a majority of students cranky. I'm not sure if these are common feelings in schools but I'm disappointed that this school in particular has me so unmotivated, I do as much work as possible but missing one or two assignments somehow fails me because of the inbalanced grading system. This is my personal opinion on this school, thank you for your time.

This school isn't a welcoming place. No cultural diversity and they push the students way too hard just to uphold their crappy image. I've been going here for a long time so ive suffered through it and I know what's up. Parents, do your kids a favor and send them somewhere else. They'll thank you for it.

If I had the choice to not choose any stars, I would. I am a tenth grader at this school and there are many issues with this school that I feel uncomfortable to be here.Out of the nearly 15 teachers that I have had in this school I ve only truly learned from one.I know that this is a Performing Arts school but majors are overated and academics are underated. They are worried more about their image than their students feelings. Racial awareness is even an issue at this school. There are so many non-black people (mostly white) running around using the N like it s anything and the factuality doesn t even notice or they just turn the other way. Half of the things that they tell you at orientation, is a lie. We barely even use our iPads in my major. In fact, we write for a whole half hour. And no, I m not in a creative writing major. If you were to send your child to this school and they had a problem with a teacher there is no one to go to. Even if you do go to someone they won t do anything. I m in the tenth grade and I didn t even know that we had a counselor nor who she was until this year. Don t be fooled by the whole ipad thing because that just makes it harder for us to retain information when we can look up the answers to anything with the click of a button. I fully understand the uniform policy but it s completely ridiculousness especially expensive. We have to wear skirts during the winter and we re not even allowed to come in with anything other than stockings under nor are we allowed to to change once we get there or before we leave. We also have to wear dress shoes to school, even if there s ice out. And the uniform shirts for girls trap in sweat and stench. The material is itchy and cheap, not durable at all either. I barely lasted a year with a uniform set. And if I have to pay so much for my uniform why aren t I getting my money s worth? Let s talk about how this school make me feel uncomfortable. My high school theater teacher especially makes me feel uncomfortable. In fact, it is because of her actions today that I am writing this review. She s very dismissive, disrespectful, and degrading. She accused a student of plagiarism because she didn t write formally during her 30 minute journaling but used words such as abandoned and internal in an assignment. For someone who teaches at an all iPad school , she barely knows how this technology works. I ve never seen someone so unprofessional in my life. She makes friends with her students and gets mad enough to disturb the entire class, cause a whole scene, and kick them out of her major when they joke around with her. Then she claims that she s not our friend. Then she claims that she loves that person the next day. I don t aspire to be an actress but we are learning the same exact things as we were last year. From what I have heard, there was a petition made up last year for the sole purpose to get her fired. But the administration doesn t do anything about it and no matter who complains about her she ll still remain at the school. Within just a week or so of being in our major, about 4 or 5 people switched out of our major because of her demeanor. She gives us the option to switch out of the major if we don t like it but when a student went to switch she wouldn t allow them. I feel as thought there is no one there to hear us out when we have complaints and the fact that no one has done anything about her is the reason the she thinks she can go around and do and say whatever. Students who aren t even in her classes don t like her because of her demeanor. She s 20 minutes late to class half of the time and then she goes to the bathroom with her little make up bag for a good 10 to 15 minutes. She was even gone for 25 minutes once. She also takes our phones in the beginning of class, which I don t mind, but when we tell her that we don t have our cell phones she accuse us of lying and has even gone so far as to frisking a student. She definitely has her favorites and it is definitely apparent.

So many opportunities have opened up for my daughter at this school. She is challenged academically, given community service opportunities, as well as being introduced to many programs for continuing education. The staff, from the C.E.O, the principal, the dean all know the students by name and take a vested interest in the success of their high school careers. Having moved from a suburban area of NJ to a city school district, this school has renewed my faith in the education system in PA. Excellent educators, devoted to their students! Lucky to be a part of this school family!
