Born and raised here. It is the best of all the world's!!!! Large and diverse population. Close to the city, close to farms, close to vineyards, close to beaches. A million historical landmarks and museums. So much to do, I haven't done it all. The schools are amazing, although taxes are high so they'd better be amazing. Ferries, trains, airports, major roadways, scenic routes, a ton of ways to get where you're going. Lots of shopping. Best food ever!!! Bagels or bacon egg and cheese on a roll at a long island deli. End of conversation.

What can I say (or do I dare say) about a place I didnt personally grow up in. The part, I went to did not have many tall building as Manhattan does and is very rural. Otherwise if you are very used to life in Lower Manhattan, you may not appreciate that this is an Island that does sleep vs NY being the city that never sleeps. That makes it similar to most other cities and its neighborhoods in the US.

A decent place to visit and or live if you choose to do so. I found it to be a modest town with modest folk with modest income. Nothing fancy just a decent place to raise a family. Nice neighborhood shops and schools are confidently located throughout the city making shopping easy to do when you have to pick up the little ones. Not a lot of fast food places though.

I grew up in long island on the north shore of Nassau county. Its diverse in many ways and has a lot of amazing people and places: the indian community of dix hills with all its restaurants, the old estates and nature preserves of the north shore, the white sand beaches of the south shore. So many hidden gems to list here. Do some research and you'll find a great place or activity. Just beware of the drivers; worst I've ever experienced (never been to LA) especially on the southern state parkway. Also beware of ticks when venturing out in nature anywhere in suffolk county.

I grew up on Long Island in Farmingdale. It was a wonderful place to grow up & I moved away to California in my mid 20s. Biggest mistake of my life! I do wish I had stayed on Long Island!

I grew up on Long Island so as I'm reading all these reviews of the Island I think to myself it's a place unique, but not so unlike any other place. It's what you make of it and i have to admit it's not cheapest place to live, but offers a lot. I brought my children up here and feel as a whole the education system is top notch. I can't say the same for travel on the island, but there are a lot of things to do or see that are worth visiting. We have miles of beautiful accessible beaches and great parks. Music and culture? There are venues sprinkled all about the island including the open air Jones Beach Theatre. If it's dining out all you enjoy all you need to do is check any town and you'll find a wide array of restaurants with great eats or head out east and spend a day at the vineyards...like l said it's what you make of a place and l give Long Island 5 stars

Long Island ... Long, long, long Island. Been looking for a new home there forever! Something with recent updates, an especially funkly looking chandelier in dining room and close to tennis courts. Hate the winters there though So much prefer CA.
I am a bit of a princess, think I am sooooo cool. And have an edgy attitude. Would you happen to know of a realtor who would be able to handle my off the charts narcotics, I mean narcissism? Thanks guys

Very complicated to arrive due to the great traffic from Manhattan, but once this stumbling block has been overcome, the traveler discovers an island that has almost everything, beautiful beaches, beautiful villages and fishing ports, very beautiful wineries with very good wines, nothing more to ask for, it is worth it dedicate 5 days to this island and you will not regret
