My ex just left there yesterday after 200 something days. I absolutely loved the nurses on 9west 1. They were very attentive to Alex's needs. They listened to all my questions and if they didn't know the answer they went and asked someone. Of course there are the usually problems that crop up from being in bed for 7 months but that goes with the injury. Yesterday he left to go to a rehab facility and all the nurses came in to say goodbye and then lined the halls waving as he went by on the stretcher. I'm going to miss all of their support and caring. The Drs were great also but it was so hard to keep track of them because there were so many.

After decades of service to the region as a center of research innovation and economic mobility for first-generation students, Stony Brook has lost its way. I hope that one day, under committed leadership, the university might turn back from the path it's now on, and rediscover its mission and purpose once again.

First off, SBU is a big school. You have to be your own advocate here. No one is going to hold your hand, but people are extremely helpful if you ask. That being said, I spent 4 years here for my undergrad in EE. The value for the money is excellent. I didn't see it at the time, but now being in the "real world", I see how well they prepared me. The professors may seem like they don't care or are too busy, but they do care and always make time. You have to ask for help. You have to ask for office hour appointments. If there's a problem in any regard, YOU have to find the right person/department and ask for help. Every time I had an issue, I would have to call around or search online to find out who to talk to. Once finding that person, they always were helpful and fixed my problems. It's a big school. You are on your own for the most part. But the teaching is excellent. The professors are all in the top of their fields. The facilities are, generally speaking, great. Lots of computer labs, extensive library, lots of study areas (if you know where to look), decent food options (it's college.... No 5-star meals here, but I enjoyed them. Never got sick). SBU is a great place for you if you're not afraid of doing things on your own. If you are okay with seeking out help and not having someone hold your hand through your studies, you will love it here. I really enjoyed my time here and truly wish I could go back. 4 years go fast! (I was a commuter so I can't comment on campus housing, I've heard mixed reviews but I know they're building a new large housing complex so hopefully that will alleviate some concerns)

When this campus was built, it was kind of hideous. Like many other NY state schools, a lot of gray concrete was used, even on the exterior of buildings. These days there are a lot of new buildings (for classes, administration and dorms), and many are quite beautiful.

This college campus is adjacent to the Stony Brook LIRR train station, a short walk from the north edge of campus.

The campus is amazing.... mostly surrounded by nature and stuff and is peaceful. But sometimes it becomes "over peaceful" and becomes pretty boring if you do not have your own transport to go somewhere fun!!

I was accepted from New Jersey. Just visited the campus is beautiful (and beautiful girls), seem Like a great education! I asked around everyone was pretty nice some said weekends can be boring but depends are the person. The town around the campus itself is almost like the town I live in right now so Bottomline, I'm sold.

The esteemed Professor O'leary
This ESTEEMED you know what : Just because he grew a Sigmund Freud beard. It s not him.
He called me unsullied. Calming attempting to help prosecute son Again. And "Fathers opinion Need Not Apply". My child has suffered terribly from guys like these multiple false charges yet he is willing to add more, STOP NOW. They have no soul. The family does not include Fathers even if the other parent had abused the c child since he could walk.

I absolutely loved Stony Brook (I did both my Undergraduate and Graduate degrees there) and consider the time spent there to be some of the best years of my life. Going here was one of the best decisions of my life! I was also able to obtain a teaching position before I had even graduated (And, no, I do not know anyone in the school that I teach at) and was specifically told by my school that they often look for Stony Brook graduates because of the rigor of the academic programs. The majority of my professors went above and beyond in and out of the classroom to provide their students with many opportunities for success. Did I have some professors that I didn't care for? Sure, but I still felt that they were competent and knowledgable in their fields. My classes for my particular major were small but some of DEC requirements had large classes, which didn't bother me.

I love the independence of Stony Brook and feel that this is a vital skill as well. I have since completed course work in various professional development programs and I hated that these programs forced you to sit with advisors prior to registering or registered for you. At Stony Brook, you have the freedom to select classes and your schedule, which I loved. There are services available if you need help but if you don't, it's not required.

I was a commuter and still became involved in many on campus activities and made plenty of friends. The food was fine, with lots of options. The tuition is obviously very affordable if you are a state resident. Stony Brook really is what you make of it. If you go there with a poor attitude and do not seek out opportunities to make the most of your education, you will probably have a negative experience. Seek out activities, go to your Professors' office hours, work on research projects with them, etc. I have a friends who transferred to Stony Brook from smaller, out of state/in state schools and they hated it because they wanted small classes and advisors and professors who lead you by the hand. You will not get that at Stony Brook but you will get a quality education for a great price!

I am looking into possibly returning to Stony Brook for a Ph.D. I cannot say enough good things about Stony Brook!

I would give it zero if I could! The worst staffs ever. They are not helpful and completely useless. And it is so packed and overpopulated on campus. They take your money but they don't build more facilities.

The ratings are out of proportion and so are the comments. I am currently a SB student. The only good thing I will say about Stony Brook is that students are highly competitive and I foresee Stony Brook in the near future being on the level of Boston University. I don't know where people are getting beautiful from or great professors. First I want to address this beauty everyone is talking about. Stony Brook never turns on their water fountains except when incoming students are coming to visit, every week you here the workers with leaf blowers blowing the dirt around so they get paid for doing nothing, and lastly Stony Brook is littered with cigarette butts every 5feet. Next the professors. There are only about a hand full of professors (10-20) that are worthy of being called great. All the other professors just care about their research which is why stony brook is known for research.
If you buy the food here, expect 8-10$ serving sizes less than the size of your hand and expect the quantity of the food to go down over time. The quality is extremely low. The food is undercooked and they use spices to cover up the lack of taste. SB's food is corrupt, plain and simply. They ignore you if you have anything bad to say about their food. It is very obvious they told certain people to give this college review good ratings. I would not be amazed if half of them are fake accounts.

I have been taken in to the ER here since 2017 till now ongoing at least 50 times while other 500 times i refused to go. Its good people there mostly but not all ethical or professional. One guy i think was a security guy walking with a hand gun at his waist belt. I asked what is your job and he says he is a doctor and protecting his staff. I have a friend witness to that. And he is just kept walking around coming into my room and going to other rooms and his name was not on the release papers as my doctor or nurse. This is a great building as a hospital but it took them 2.5 years to still not prrscribe me an ixygen tberapy prescription. Which has severely damaged my heart and lungs going worse too. And there is much more incudents hateful by a doctor named nadia and unprofessional woman a doctor. I am actually dying every day while they cannot write me an oxygen prescription. But yes they had me at Cardio ER too overnight thinking toput a stent in my heart and more.i did not have any heart issues even in their tests ouple if months before this test says so. I sit gasping for exygen. My oxygen levels go below 70's too often and mid 80 to 90 mostly but still they want toplay with my life. These are very few facts. And my complaints online and reviews sent to the hospital at their invitations to review brought no sense or decency or urgency in this case to them. I cannot believe this is USA . Because i have been in hospitals in europe and asia too but none of this lack of responibity and dodging there. Only here. I add some pics of my oximeter that i take often and small movie clips. Not sure if i can add here. I see no place for pic upload. Two and a half years here and over 9 years of wrong or intentional wrong diagnosis in Florida and other states. They dont even check your hospital recirds from previous other hospitals . They like to know from you what do you think is wrong with you ! I sometimes reply politely though very upset inside that why not look at my history from other hislital visits. You ever went to a workshop where the mechanic says tell me whats wrong with your car so i can fix it? Same at this place and many other hospitals. They just want tbat money..tbe prescriptions the visits to dictors outside knowing that i need oxygen therapy they will not providethat little prescription while undeniable proof at hand. Now i have A-Fib PAH hypertension and a fast failing heart. I have seen animals show more care.

It's OK. You earn a good degree spending lesser money than other schools. Food is overpriced. GPA depends on how much effort you put in. Only thing I don't like is that campus faces heavy snowfall every year and the place is always super windy. Campus is always green and clean, I like that. As an international student I think the visa office does a good job with the formalities.

Graduate experience terrible. Professors not accessible because majority live in NYC. Lack of support as I am a disabled student. DSS support poor. On campus housing poor (black mold in my apt.). No assistance from housing in having to move off campus. Wouldn't recommend graduate or undergraduate programs to potential students.

Pluses: Their rigorous biology & psychology classes prepared me well to do well in grad school. Plenty of amazing opportunities to get involved: Volunteer Ambulance Corp., Resident Assistant, Greek Life and more.
---On the downside, SUNY SB does not give sufficient support of helping graduates find a job.
---With their alumni, their Alumni Relations Office almost never replies back to emails.
---Professionally: Wish SUNY SB would respond to my director & colleagues, even if it is to say they are not able to attend when we are sending an invite for a college fair.

Went to School of Business for an MBA. Too many international students who speak English as a 3rd language (not even joking) - most write in English using Google translate. Uninspiring classes because of it. 2 of 3 of my professors said they dumb down the material so that these students can actually understand. The 2 stars are for the professors, because they will make time to give you individual attention. And they're really intelligent.

Great school, fantastic education...but I agree with the previous comments about housing...definitely try to live off campus. I've moved twice and both times I had to deal with really bad roommates.

I work per diem at Stony Brook Hospital.I work with medical students as a Standardized Patient.I haven't been to the hospital since March due to the Pandemic.Everybody here is so friendly and helpful.I wasn't sure where I should go and was helped by a guard and a woman at the Information Desk.Elsewhere, everything is kept clean and disinfected.I felt safe throughout the day.

Personally, I have nothing to say about academics. I believe Stony Brook has a good foundation when it comes to the professors and the courses they offer.
BUT
The only reason I am writing this review and giving this school two stars is due to my dorming experience.

For those of you who are dorming and happen to get an unlucky roommate, I want to warn you (from my first-year experience) that situations will not be handled the way they should be. I have experienced roommate issues and even went through roommate contracts. I had to go through more than one meeting that did not fully resolve the issues, which led me to having several meetings throughout the whole two semesters just to handle small issues. There was this one time when the meeting lasted for 3 hours. This, obviously, took away a lot of my time (especially my studying time). We all know how precious time is and how busy college students are. I still don't understand why dorming issues can't be solved in a timely manner efficiently and effectively at this school.

I also noticed that there was bias going around when handling roommate issues. The directors or whoever is handling your roommate issue will say they're not being biased whatsoever, but through my experience I sensed bias going around. Especially in my building, where the director was a mentor/ teacher for my roommate. I will not mention any personal names or the building that I stayed in, but just so everyone who is applying knows, be prepared (if you do have roommate issues or issues in the building in general) for unprofessionalism and bias when handling such issues.

Good luck.
