Choosing to go to SMA when I was 15 years old easily was one of the best decisions of my life. Having grown up in France, I originally wanted to go there to improve my English and make friends in the US. I found exactly that, and much more. SMA is a place that allows teenagers to grow into young adults, gain self confidence, improve both their social and outdoors skills.
I remember feeling nervous when I first went there, as I had never been separated from my parents for so long, let alone by an entire ocean. SMA nevertheless has the magical ability to quickly feel like home. Thanks to its small size, it is possible to meet and befriend every single person there. Some of the people I met there went from complete strangers to closest friends in a matter of days. I am still in touch with today, years later.
I returned to SMA as a counselor in 2016 and 2017, and was happy to see that what made this camp so special then still lives on, thanks to the dedication and care put in by Jud, Anne, Pam, Biff, and the rest of the family. If you are considering going to SMA, or sending your child there, I could not give you a higher recommendation for it.
