When I recently had what was thought to be bronchi...

When I recently had what was thought to be bronchitus that didn't really improve, I returned a couple of weeks later and the doctor said my heart rate was extremely high >150 bpm and I'm just sitting there in the chair, so one thing led to another they did various blood tests that didn't really find a cause, CT scan, chest xray. They did find pneumonia, but because of the heart rate the doctor said "I'm admitting you" and I asked what she meant by "admitting" and that's when she said I'd be in the hospital 2-3 days for IV antibiotics!
I said there's NO WAY I can do that, I have 4 dogs home alone, I simply can't do that and there's no one I can call.
After a bunch of back and forth she agreed to do it outpatient as long as I came back F,S,SU at 5 pm which I did.
Well, Sunday they decided to try a medication for the heart to try and lower that still >150bpm and that caused a dramatic BP crash to 60/30 and 37bpm, next thing I know I'm being rushed down the hall to the E.R. where they flushed the med out and I started feeling better. That's when they said "were transferring you to another hospital" I said transferring me? like I drive there Monday or somethig? "no, you are going in an ambulance TONIGHT to Fort Dodge"
Wow was I shocked! I was expecting to finish the IV and go back home, and here I was about to go in an ambulance! I said there was no way I can do that, no there was nobody I could call at now 10:30 on a Sunday night. Well, one thing led to another and they assurred me they would make sure the dogs are taken care of, they would make it work, so reluctantly I gave them my door key and was off in the ambulance.
I was able to find a Macke girl through my vet clinic using FB messenger that night to come twice a day to care for the dogs, I later learned that when I called the E.R. in Stewart to tell them about giving the key to the girl, that one of the nurses was considering going to the house to check on the dogs, and that "were all dog lovers" I felt a LOT better!!

The staff, everyone was just the best in every way! My thanks to all who were involved over the course of my treatment.

Both Dr.'s Duncan and Hornback have truly worked small miracles for our little family! Super clean place filled full of very knowledgeable individuals. It can sometimes be difficult to find the right place to tend to ones health, but I trust my doctor (Duncan) fully and haven't had a doctor half as intelligent as he is in many years!

My real Dr. Is two hour South (Cass County Memorial Hospital). They have maybe two decent Dr.'s in Lake City.
I would suggest you go there in an emergency, but transfer to Carroll or Fort Dodge (tops in heart care) as soon as practical. Truth its just hard to handle major issues in a rural hospital.

My Mother was treated well at her end of life here at SMCH ( she was diagnosed with ALS). The nurses transferred us to a big room to accommodate all our family as we said goodbye. The provided us with drink and snacks and helped us with anything we needed.

My wife has nerve problems. We have been to Newton hospital several times and we were hoping she didn t have any problems while on vacation. Well unfortunately she did, we showed them the list of meds that help but nope. The nurse that worked on my wife smelled like she hadn t had a shower in a week. She really smelled bad, how sterile could the ER be with someone who smells that bad. Dr. Duncan seemed very arrogant when I tried to explain what my wife s Nerve/Pain Specialists had told us, even to the point of using profanity. Very unprofessional, I sure wouldn t want this place to be my primary care facility.
