It seemed lazy: forgotten lines, overacting, almost looked like the company didn't care what came off the stage & the audience should "eat it" anyway. I was amazingly disappointed at Steppenwolf.

Nice venue. Went to see La Ruta. Play about the women from Juarez that go missing working at the American factories on the border. Was heart wrenching. While the venue is great. That play left me a little off. Mind you the play was great. Actors talented. Being a Mexican myself. It hurt to know this is happening to these women.

A must do for anyone in the city. The lineup won't always be to everyone's liking but they offer a wide variety of productions and they have certainly opened my eyes to shows I wouldn't have decided to see on my own. The seats are solid and they do a great job of advising up front if the show will have an intermission or not.

Box office staff was very knowledgeable about the area restaurants and went that extra mile to complete our experience. NOt to mention the fantastic shows we have seen there. everything from classics to theatre for young adults to the next thing you'll see on broadway. Love that this theatre is in my home town.

I attended MS. BLAKK FOR PRESIDENT by Tina Landau and Tarell Alvin McCraney. It was amazing.

The show was amazing. Each performer found a unique way to keep the audience entertained. The stage was set up as more of a runway show. I can't imagine any seat in the house being a bad one. You'll laugh and cry during this performance. Mostly laugh. You'll also learn a part of LGBTQ history.

About the theater. This place is ran like a well oiled machine. Theater ushers are mic'ed and making sure that every patron is getting to their show. We were a bit slow, so they messaged our theater to let them know we were on our way. Some of the restrooms are gender neutral, so don't be surprised if you have the opposite sex in the bathroom with you. There are also male and female designated bathrooms for those that aren't up for the experience.

You've got every kind of drink option, from specialty coffees to anything with alcohol.

You'll have a great time.

I am a fan of the Steppenwolf, one of the many who consider it a Chicago institution. The location is wonderfully close to public transportation, shopping and local eateries. I find the productions to be well-chosen, well-acted, and clevery staged. Seating, however, is a bit cramped. I recently had the pleasure of seeing an updated version of True West, and I am looking forward to The Great Leap.

The Rembrandt 'preview' was in so many ways a sublime experience. A wonderful play, exceptionally directed and performed. Long shall I remember the performance by the late John Mahoney, at the height of his powers for what was sadly his final curtain call. The Bar for a pre-show tipple is highly recommended with friendly staff and an excellent wine and cocktail menu. As an Australian child of the 60s, may I respectfully say, Chicago, you ROCK!!

I went with my students to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. It WAS INCREDIBLE! not only was Molly EXTREMELY HELPFUL, everyone was so nice at the theatre. They were very well organized, provided snacks, and were amazing in booking us last minute. The play itself was done wonderfully. My kids LOVED IT! THANK YOU steppenwolf for an unforgettable afternoon!

Majority of the shows are fantastic! The stories are usually left open for the audience to conclude individual interpretations. Discussion follows each play so the audience can share their version of the story.

Steppenwolf showed me some of my first large scale professional theatre, and I adored every minute. Even if I'm unsure about the text, all other elements of execution are top par and invested. I love this place.

The play was good. It has some very funny lines -- many of which are laugh out loud funny. I didnt think the main character was the least bit compelling. He was a whiny. low energy, super pessimistic underachiever, a bad dad to his one son and did very little during the play to redeem himself from that initial impression. In fact, he declined in my opinion to the point where I didnt care at all what happened to him and found him completely unsympathetic. The love affair with Minnie was simply ridiculous. She was an obnoxious airhead and it made no sense at all.. including the hot sex...that he would be attracted to her. The play was way too long at 2 hours and 50 mins. The two nude sex scenes were unnecessary and both were awkward and did nothing to shed light on the characters or move the plot forward.

If you are just visiting Chicago, there is a lot of culture from which to choose, but I want to recommend Steppenwolf theater in the near north Old Town neighborhood. The nation s premier ensemble theater, their plays have always provoked thinking and reflection with an innovative approach to theater arts. In this recent production, a Steppenwolf original (one of 40 that they have created), the storyline unites characters and music from South Africa and Chicago while offering provocative questions about love and loss. It was a great, dynamic experience of live theater, much like many of their productions are.

What a great theater complex! Seats are comfortable with plenty of legroom for this tall guy. Was here the matinee of "La Ruta". Based on my impression, I look forward to seeing more plays here.

Consistently offers the best contemporary live theater. You know what you will get that is not TV, movies, or even musical theater. Steppenwolf takes what we all experience but pulls back the layers in such a way that we are confronted with our own pettiness, mediocrity, grandiosity, or compassion, valor and goodness.

From the person you speak with on the phone to the ticket window and greeters - each and every person is committed to making your experience of theater one that you will still be thinking about years later. I m still processing a production of Chechov s Seagull that was in spring of 2003.

Steppenwolf puts Chicago s theater in the same class as all the great theater houses around the world.

Astounding, gripping performances. Offers a season of wonderful variety. The plays are thought-provoking and stimulating more often than a feel-good plot. Extremely talented actors. Staging is incredible. Costumes are amazing. Wonderful value for the performances provided. Student tickets available. Small store with scripts for purchase. Can bring in drinks to the seating area purchased from the in-theater bar. Now also has an attached bar for before or after connections.

Love love love! A historic theater in Chicago and a must see for theater lovers. The shows put on there are quality and much more affordable than broadway. Be sure to to hang out for a few minutes after the show and you just may run into the cast and be able to get a few photo ops with them

Having returned for the second time, my experience with the shows, staff, and location have been superb. Already looking forward to come back - even to enjoy the great lounge/bar connected to the theatre that has public access. Broad selection of cocktails, beverages, and light bites. Steppenwolf brings a very diverse cast and subject matter that this audience is in great need of.

the play was all right, but they insisted we provide our "pronouns" before we speak. I don't know about you, but when I see someone wearing a suit and tie, I think of a man. You simply need to look at someone to figure out what gender and what pronouns to use, there is no need for clarification. Frankly, it was hilarious, but still, pointless.
