They have good psychiatric and therapeutic services and they gave me employment. It's the first job I've been able to hold down and I've been there for over a year now. Great people. I'm very happy.

Horrible! Illegal cameras within the rooms of their clients. The Staff at Step Up On Second/Vine uses condescending or degrading use of body language, vocal inflection, and behavior. Staff there presents two or more different personality styles based entirely on context. They persistently protect of people in positions of power even if such people have done something unethical or illegal. They use stereotyped use of euphemisms, jargon, deceptive language, and double standards in language. They use a patronizing "contaminated" smile, a sing-song voice. This behavior is considered patronizing when directed at the average individual. For instance, while dealing with patients alone, they adapt a vicious, punny, and controlling persona. When dealing with the general public, they may adopt a saintlike persona. This is how people will mislead you in Hollywood. Soon I would stop talking to Step Up staff all together. I kept to myself most of the time.

About Step Up on Second

Step Up on Second: Providing Compassionate Support to People with Mental Health Issues and Chronic Homelessness

Step Up on Second is a non-profit organization that has been providing compassionate support to people experiencing serious mental health issues and chronic homelessness since 1984. The organization's mission is to help individuals who are struggling with mental illness, substance abuse, and homelessness by providing them with the resources they need to lead fulfilling lives.

The organization was founded by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for supportive housing for people with mental health issues. They started by renovating an old hotel in Santa Monica, California, which became the first Step Up residence. Since then, Step Up has expanded its services to include outreach programs, case management services, employment assistance, and more.

One of the unique aspects of Step Up's approach is their focus on "housing first." This means that they prioritize finding stable housing for their clients before addressing other needs such as employment or healthcare. By providing safe and stable housing options for individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless due to their mental health issues or substance abuse problems, Step Up helps them stabilize their lives so they can focus on recovery.

Step Up offers a variety of supportive housing options tailored to meet each individual's needs. These include permanent supportive housing (PSH), which provides long-term affordable housing combined with support services such as case management and counseling; transitional housing programs that offer temporary shelter while clients work towards securing permanent housing; and rapid re-housing programs that provide short-term rental assistance coupled with case management services.

In addition to its supportive housing programs, Step Up also offers outreach services designed to connect individuals living on the streets or in shelters with resources such as food banks, medical care providers, legal aid organizations and more. Their outreach teams work tirelessly throughout Los Angeles County identifying those most in need of help while building relationships based on trust.

Another key component of Step-Up's approach is its emphasis on employment assistance. The organization recognizes that having meaningful work can be an important part of recovery from mental illness or addiction. To this end they offer job training classes along with job placement assistance through partnerships within local businesses.

Step-Up also provides comprehensive case management services designed specifically for those struggling with serious mental health issues or chronic homelessness. Case managers work closely alongside clients helping them navigate complex systems like social security disability benefits applications while also connecting them directly into community-based resources like therapy sessions or peer support groups.

Overall it’s clear that Step-Up On Second has made significant strides towards improving outcomes for those suffering from serious mental illness & chronic homelessness over the years through innovative programming & compassionate care delivery models alike!
