Steak n Shake Review

Absolutely terrible experience. I and my girlfriend went here for homecoming because it was the least packed place, and when we showed up we stood there for 20 minutes waiting for a seat while having counted out 8 open booths. There were me, my girlfriend, and 4 others with us. After about 20 minutes of waiting, and group of 3 females walked and, and they were immediately sat. The lady came up to me and asked us how many there were, and when I said 6, she said there would be a 45 minute wait. When I explained further that we had already been waiting 20 minutes and should have been seated 1st, she replied with they have less people. Anybody who knows anything about anything, knows that if you show up 1st to a restaurant, you get seated 1st period it's not like we had a huge group, there were few enough people that we could have sat and then served. This lady refused to seat us regardless of their being open booths. On top of this, there were multiple employees standing around in the kitchen not doing anything at all. Oddly enough, the manager was unavailable for comments or questions.

The food is good and the service was great! Thank you to Brittany for being attentive.

Good food, feed the whole family without going broke! Love it!

One of my favorite hamburger places when I lived there. Now when I get home to visit, it's a tradition that I have to go.

The employee at the drive-thru window was one of the nicest people! I don't normally do these but just because she made my experience great I am. Every bit of the order was piping hot and correct!

The inside area where you order at was not clean. Counter area not clean and floor really dirty.

A classic getaway late at night for when you just don't know where to go out. Steak and Shake will always be there for you with delicious burgers and my personal favorite cajun fries. Though they could speed up the milkshake making process, I usually come in a group which, is accommodated well, but can of course affect the wait time. They know what they do well, but they still manage to provide it for very low prices with satisfying meal possibilities even under $4 after tax.

The place was a real mess. Floors need to be cleaned and mopped. Tables need to be cleaned between use. And, the bathroom was disgusting!!! Shakes and fries are great. Hamburgers are served with "mystery meat".

They gave us a plastic spoon for our milkshake and it was so gross with sticky crumbs all over it. There was also hair everywhere in the milkshake. It gave me and my friend a bad stomach ache

Been here twice 1st time I waited for 20 mins in the drive thru only to be told they couldn t make my order bc they had a large group inside. 2nd time we waited for 30 mins in drive thru with two cars in front of me for two shakes and an order of chicken strips. Never coming here again.

Management should really check on their wait staff. It took forever to get food that showed up cold and we were never checked on. We had to flag down another staff just to get a refill on water.

Used to be to eat there often. It had been 11 months since we ate there, so we decided to give it a try again. Both my wife and myself became ill very quickly after eating. Won't be back.

This place always hits the spot! I'm never disappointed with what I order. I enjoy so much from here, I have a hard time picking what I want each time!

The one in Normal IL is really pathetic compared to the other ones.. Crappy waitress who just seemed like she was trying to get us out as fast as possible food looked like it was old, place looked dirty.. Couldn't wait to leave.

I really hate to be rude but this place smells awful you need better people inspecting this place. People that care about the work place especially cleanliness.

i am not a steak eater and their shakes are too sweet for me.

Everyone was super nice and we got our food pretty quickly. It was such a lovely, positive atmosphere!

I asked for a double with cheese & Cajun fries with everything on it but no pickle or onion. I got regular everything smh. I beg plain fries, and nasty eggs and also the nag bath they teach smh. I was totally dissapointed

Horrible experience just trying to get a shake in the drive through.

Nice restaurant with plenty of room for eating and parking. Service is timely and food is good. Also regular specials such as happy hour shakes from 2-5pm.

Simple, good burgers and shakes. Try the Frisco with jalepenos!

Ordered a Turkey club at the drive thru, waited 15 minutes to get to the window only for them to tell me they don't have it anymore. Drove away with nothing!

very very slow, like super slow, very bad service and very much understaffed !!! something must be done about this location, also dirty, like the kitchen is soo dirty !!! i will give it another chance and will call the health dept !!!

Cost isn't terrible... Food better than takeaway... Still fairly quick.

1st time here as well don't have these at home. Food was ok, but super greasy

The server was very prompt but we waited for over a half hour for our food when we got it the order was wrong. My husband ordered seasoned fries and got regular fries other wise it was good.

I love the food. However, this time the service was terrible. Even though the restaurant wasn't crowded I had to speak up to get service after i saw that people who came in after me were being served first.

I am surprised that with shake in the name that the shakes are only good. They should be great! Average fast food. Fair price for the quality.

Food was fantastic. Service was so poor. Waiter disappeared for a while. When he came back, he started cleaning other tables off (customers were gone). I brought left-overs home wrapped in napkins. Never offered a box. I could go on, but too much.

Prompt service from MONTANA(A YOUNG LADY) who served me with a nice smile. I had an excellent grilled cheese sandwich and a large chocolate milkshake.
A fun place to get a quick bite. Kids like too. Normal,Illinois is home of STEAK AND SHAKE.

Pretty good experience other than 2 hairs in my food and served on a dirty plate. Got my bowl of chili on a plate. Hands down the dirtiest restaurant I ve ever been to. Only positive was the server nice and friendly.

It's was a little crowded but I was seated within 5 minutes. Had one of the "4 for $4" meals. It filled me up and price was right.

Too many people walked in after me apparently and my order was just completely lost.

understand fresh takes time but the line and wait here is ALWAYS beyond ridiculous

We usually avoid Steak n Shake because they are always slow and that s hard with 3 little kids. We foolishly tried again today. When we walked in the restaurant was about half full. We waited to be seated and once we sat down we waited. And waited while 3 (smaller) tables that came in after us were visited by servers and brought their drinks. We finally left. Maybe this time we will actually learn

Good burgers when you're looking for something quick and low cost.

It's a good restaurant to go to when you're with family.

Greasy burgers. Tasty but be prepared to regret your meal once it settles like a 10lb rock in your gut.
Great fare in the restaurant locations, classy retro feel. However the staff is almost always entirely composed of teenagers and service leaves something to be desired. Slow wait times for a table of three.

As always, a top notch experience. Probably the best Steak n Shake I've been to. My only general complaint is that they get fresher and crispier bacon!

Nothing awesome, nothing bad. Everything was fine. Good prices.

One nice thing about Steak'n Shake is that they stay the same. Even though the menu may change to accomodate different tastes, the service is still top notch and the same atmosphere.

Husband on low sodium diet and they cook his hamburger and fries with no salt for him. A real plus for him.

The food was good but the service sucked. Our waiter only checked on us once and that's because she was bringing us something they forgot, never came by to see if we needed refills.

The burger was good, but I waited in the drive-line for 25 minutes. Good service just plan for a unusually long wait at lunch time.

The new way of paying with a card is very confusing. A lot of waitresses are probably not getting a tip unless the customer has cash on them. One older gentleman, around 80 years old was so upset that he didnt get to tip his waitress, I thought I was gonna start crying. Steak & Shake is going downhill fast!

This steak in shake always has good food, the staff is friendly and pretty timely. Drive thru wait can be long sometimes.

Good food. Bathroom could be a little cleaner. Service a little faster.
There were plenty of staff and only six tables with customers.
