The hiking is pleasings and the wildlife abundant. Weekends are crowded and lately there has been more shade than sun. Logging has been a problem in the area in the east side of the lake. Many trail closures. Encounters with snakes and small mammals are common. We saw a dragon, but its wings were missing. Colonial settlers left the stones stacked in long rows. Julio says he left his weed there once.
Peaceful, quiet. Well maintained and marked trails. Tons of wild life.
I call it the Oasis of the Quiet Corner. It has over 17 miles of well marked, well maintained trails, great classes/events for children and adults, cool museum and original home of James L. Goodwin. Thoroughly impressive.
Its beautiful, full of wildlife, I walk there several days a week for exercise
Great haunting grounds. Many places to wander about
This is a gem of an area to walk and see birds and wildlife. I love the cool and shady ramblings, and it is refreshingly quiet.
Great place to hike...many trails...always something different to see!
First time visiting was for the annual trail run. One of the most beautiful wooded courses I ve done - well-marked and maintained trails, pristine scenery, and lots of varied terrain. Will come back for sure, either for runs or hikes. Thanks to Friends of Goodwin for a stellar event :)
So far my experiences and hikes have been great. Please download or print a map before you go as trails don't all make easy loops if at all. Some trails are muddy or Rocky. There seems to be trails for all types of hikers or walkers. Have fun!
A nice forest to visit. Always carry out what you carry in.
I have hiked a number of times, it's great. I haven't hiked on a hot summer day....might get buggy. I enjoy cool/cold weather hikes. My dog loves it as well.
100% gorgeous for walkers, runners, cyclists; very well maintained. Easy trail and more challenging side trails of you wish.
It was a quick walk by the lake and it was raining. It was beautiful. Not sure hiking trails are open right now. Love to come back and hike.
Great place to hike for anyone that lives nearby. Scenic short or long hikes and well-marked trails.
Great walk on Cody Trail - Blue blaze with Sylvia, Dori and guide Lena.
A jewel of a place in NE Connecticut. Well maintained trails of all types and wonderful educational programs run by the conservation center.
This is one of our favorite places! We love hiking here, walking our pupper, having lunch out on the deck on Governors Island, or all 3! Such a beautiful place! Id give it 6 stars if i could!
It is so beautiful any time of year. The trails are groomed and the Airline Trail goes through most of the state. Good for walking or bicycle riding. Right off RT 6 with plenty of parking.
Beautiful trails, spectacular scenery and very well maintained.
I've been coming here for years. This is a great place for fishing or hiking with the family. The trails are all well marked and mostly clear. If you're looking for good nature walks with the family this is an excellent spot.
So many trails, including the long and scenic Midstate Trail.
My visit today left me underwhelmed. I was so looking forward to my visit. First time here, upon entering the park I found it nice. Trails are a nice overgrown to see much. I feel the Mark's on the trees need to be closer together because things grow.
I may return in the spring to try again. But that is all for now.
This park is 2 Mike's from home....they keep this park so clean and tidy...Good Job!
Great trails for hiking, running, and MTN biking. FYI: Deer flies are really awful mid-summer. Easily accessible from the rail trail too. There's composting toilets and usually some porta-potties available. If the office is open, you might be able to fill your water bottle.
Very lovely, but the rail trail riding thru is a bit rough gravel.
Great morning on Blue Blaze trail with Lena joined by Dori Sylvia and Sylvie
Rare and native trees, shrubs, and plants, maintained by Master Gardeners. Lake with bass, panfish, and perch. Very wonderful place.
Beautiful trails. Best place for an outdoor adventure in Windham county.
Beautiful, quiet and low traffic area. We go most mornings.
loads of great hiking trails! I also see a lot of people horseback riding here
Great walking trails in the forest, views of Pine Acres Lake, perfect for Birders.
Great area for walking horseback riding and mountain bike. Peaceful and quiet
Go to these place's to learn! Thank's for the information on plant name's...
Did a star gazing class. Very informative and the gentleman doing presentation was excellent and knowledge. Want more star gazing classes
Great little park with lovely winding trails and a beautiful lake. I actually attended summer camp here in high school and returning always brings nostalgic memories. Besides that, what's not to love about nature!
Went for a mushrooming class. As it turned out there was not muchroom lol. Very popular events.
Went for a fathers day hike there it was beautiful the only concern I had were the ticks... Other then that my husband had a great time.
Been there multiple times with my family great hike beautiful lake and nature, also has trails for bikes and horses
Beautiful space to walk or hike with any age children or adults. Many smooth paths and relaxing views. The part of the trail near RT 6 has some traffic noise from the road. But there is a lot to explore on foot or bike. Only a short hike today but will return to explore some of the many other trails.
Second to Pachaug Forest, of course, but a great place to learn and experience the beautiful Connecticut outdoors.
