The out patient waiting room was packed!! Elbow to elbow! Glad to see they are doing their part to prevent the spread of the covid!! Maybe they should follow the example of the doctor offices in the area. They have you wait in your car and come and get you when it's your turn! Star regional in Athens is negligent!!!!
5 Star Regional Medical Center in Athens is sub standard. Now, both I and my wife have had bad experiences there. Today, I'm upset that my wife, who was scheduled to have a colon scope is just now seeing the doctor, who was supposed to be there over 2 hours ago. My wife has been without real food now for over a day and a half and she just called me to let me know that the doctor just now arrived. She had been waiting at this hospital since 9:30a and it is now 1:45p. Of course, the hospital wanted their payment up front or they would charge several hundred dollars extra. Just further proof that America's healthcare system is in a shambles. No telling how long it will now take before she is through with this slipshod service. Unbelievable!!!
A couple of years ago, I was in this same hospital with internal bleeding. They couldn't figure anything out and I was sent to a regular room where I passed out again due to loss of blood. They basically threw up their hands and sent me to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga where a simple test showed that the problem was H Pylori causing an ulcer to bleed. Of course this was thousands of dollars later.
Guess if you have a minor cut or abrasion, you could go here and maybe get help. Otherwise, try to go somewhere else!
BTW, Owner, if you see this, don't bother with your platitudes. You're in it for the money of which you're getting plenty. I pray for the day that sensible people force you to straighten up your act and hold you accountable for your actions.
Top-notch emergency room personnel. Wheeled my wife, who was having trouble breathing, in from the car and took her right to the treatment room. Nurses and doctors were professional, knowledgeable, friendly and comforting during a stressful time. Five Stars!
I recently had to have blood work and an xray done at Star Regional Medical Center. I was in and out of the building in 25 minutes. The staff was courteous and professional. Great job by the team at Star Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN!
My care before (ER), during and after surgery was great. Couldn't have asked for better care from everyone involved.

Very unprofessional. ER Dr. Steven Ratcliff is a joke and a such a failure to my brother. My brother will absolutely get justice for what you have caused. I will not fail him like everyone else did. Do not go here at any cost. 0 rating.
Went to the emergency room tonight Trent was my doctor he had constant sniffles.. Prior to coming into the hospital I took 4 pregnancy test all positive. Also felt like I had a uti and he wanted to do a pelvic exam (why I have no clue) but he said I didn't have a uti but I feel like I do..! Well he took a pregnancy test and said his test was 97% accurate but said I was not pregnant).. yet home pregnancy tests are 99% accurate. And when I got home I took a clear blue pregnancy test and guess what it says PREGNANT. I will have to find another doctor to be able to find out if I have a bladder or uti. The nurses I seen walk past my room was rolling their eyes and snobby like. I think I won't return to this place... Plus the wait was horrible why haven't they fixed this since that last few years I mean look at the reviews from 2 years ago yet still haven't approved wait time? Good luck to who ever goes
My husband had to have bone marrow retrieved by Dr Layman. We had a great experience. Everyone from the person at the front desk to the Dr were super. The nurses in the surgery unit were Tammy, Laura, and Julie. All were wonderful to us from start to finish. We even received a call the next day to see how he was feeling. The only complaint I had was they told us to come in the hospital at the front entrance once we answered all the necessary questions we had to walk through the hospital to the Outpatient center. My husband has a hard time walking so why couldn't we have just gone in the outpatient to begin with?
I have had x-rays taken here for years, my primary doctor sends me here for them, and always received a bill from imagining, pay it, and go about my life. This year is the first time I have recieved 2 Bill's. First one from imagining, and today recieved the 2 one from the hospital itself, saying I owe about $500 just for 5 minutes of used of the machine, etc. I have never paid that much before! I don't think I'll be back because paying $500-$1500 is ridiculous when one has insurance.
I recently delivered at Starr, and it was an all around great experience. We were at the hospital for four days and each shift of the labor and delivery nurses was extremely attentive, caring, and willing to help in any way possible. The food was wonderful and every interaction with the dietary and housekeeping staff was pleasant. Our experience well exceeded our expectations!
Brought my son in with shortness of breath. They gave us a room. While my son was getting an x-ray they kicked us out of the room so they could put another patient in there. Now we are sitting in the hallway of the hospital. I go outside to smoke and calm down cause I dont like being in a hallway with sick people walking by me. (I have been sick myself for 2 months and dont need anymore viruses or the flu myself) While I'm out there my husband told me they refused to let him back with us. Told him we havent been seen yet when in fact my son who was in xray when I got kicked out. Then I noticed a bunch of staff standing outside where they bring in the EMS. They were all out there smoking and chatting. The security gaurd stayed posted on a stool at the nurses station almost the whole time we was there. I have never seen such disorganization in a emergency room before. I would not recommend going there. Me myself I will never come here again. If u dont have room for the patients that's what the waiting room is for. At least the doctor was nice and did a good job. But seriously they need to get thier staff organized. Someone should not have been examined sitting next to us. As the hallway fills up with sick people crammed in one area in the hall instead of the waiting room where there is more room. As I'm writing this another patient is being examined and diagnosed right next to us. So much for confidentiality as we leave some staff is still outside smoking.
I have been there a couple of times, my doctor is out of town. Not once was i ever treated with anything, but the best care and given the most upright respect. The staff, nurses, and doctors always listen to me, took my suggestions to heart, and always worked with me to get my issues resolved. Yes sometimes there is a little wait, most urgent cares go first, thats why it is called an emergency room, plus they are a small hospital. They checked on me while i waited. I have never had a complaint.
Doctors on the ER are nothing but quacks. Nurses on day shift was nice and would try to answer my questions. Certain night shift nurses like the shift that was on duty 7/3/20 & 7/4/20 are the rudiest people I have ever met. You ask for information that as a patient you are intitled to they say your nurse will be in to explain. They never show, you ask again then they say Dr. will be in, who never does, you keep going to ask and they roll their eyes say they don't know and get mad because you interfere with there play time on their phones. This eventually gets you in isolation because they are in fear for your safety. After being in the ER from 3pm Friday 7/3/20 to 7/6/20 with no one telling me what is going on other than being held because the Dr. said I tried to commit suicide and was told I had no right to see my lawyer and that I had no legal rights. This hospital is nothing but a joke. The quacks are nothing but liars.they get a 1 only because I can't give 0.
Had go to ER for my son's broken arm the staff was excellent but the fact we were there for 6 hrs was ridiculous. I understand and respect fact of other patients but at most 2 hrs really should've been the most. Next day surgeon sends us to outpatient, excellent staff, we were in c- wing for prep and observation and the nurses and doctors were amazing wit my 7yr old. Great place, bad er timing
The nurses and doctors actually try to find out whats wrong with you veses just dismissing you. The bills are affordable without insurance and we were treated the same as if we had the best insurance. This is our go to verses our local ER, worth the drive for better care. Thank you for all y'all do.
Thank you Starr Regional ER and Med-surg nurses. Both departments took excellent care of my mother! We have been to several large university hospitals and never received such personalized care and kindness! My mother has nothing but wonderful things to say about how she was treated and cared for. Thank you for all of your hard work!
There will be a lawsuit coming their way for mistreating patients like myself and many others I ve spoke with. This was the most awful experience I have ever encountered! I go in with the worst cough accompanied by not being able to breathe (possible Covid). They refused to prescribe me prescription grade* cough syrup, also telling me I shouldn t get a covid test there. I would highly recommend not going there for anything serious. Please go to your primary care physician if you actually want any medication to help your condition.
2/21/20 went to the er at around 9:30my blood pressure was high, girl in trigo not friendly at all, she put me in a room with no bed to lay down,sat in a chair till after 10:00 before anyone came in nurse practitioner didn't care for her, but the male nurse was really great. First bad experience I had there.
Thank god for the professional, kind staff. I felt like death with the flu. They helped me and I am so grateful !!!
My daughter had an MRI done. She always fall asleep in there MRI. Because it looks like a coffin. They thought she was on drugs.Which she plain told them she was not. That they wanted her to call her mom and get a ride she told them her mom was sick. But they still wanted her to call her mom.
I had a conditions with a lot of complications, from my gal bladder being removed to a heart condition and then chest wall pain. Other hospitals larger ones sent me away from their ER telling me simply to follow up with my Dr. when it was my DR that sent me there.
Then we came to Star Regional, 1st there ER department found something wrong with my heart and sent me by ambulance to ParkWest, after three days The staff there found arteries blocked up to 90% in my heart when in the past that same hospital had sent me away with the same condition. I have to credit the staff off the ER and star for saving me from a heart attack. Say what ever you will this ER department is one of the best in our community.
Next after my heart issues i had severe chest pain again. We came to Star because we knew we would be taken care off and we were. Within just minuets the staff was working with me in under a half hour i was out of pain. In four hours after a lot of testing i was admitted into the ICU there. Even though visitors. Was limited i never felt alone in ICU. The head nurse made sure my wife was comfortable giving her a blanket and what she needed even comforting her with kind words of hope.
The staff all of them made sure my stay was as comfortable as possible and most of all the got me out of pain and got me to what i hope is the road to relief. This is all a true events this is a small hospital with world class care for you and your family. In an emergency you can count on Star Regionals ER and Hospital Staff. For routine surgery they just cant be beat.
Heart people like me trust star they can help and get you an Apple Watch series 5 it to helped save my life.
This is what hospitals should aspire to be. This place was put here by the higher powers. I think that just about sums it up.

Tried to charge us over 1,000 for a simple CBC blood draw for a child. And that was after our insurance paid, and we were to pay out of pocket to receive service after my son fainted. We decided to goto an outpatient clinic who charges about 35.00 shameful. Also they didn t run my insurance properly-and now I get to deal with a credit collection agency while
Trying to get our secondary insurance run. Stay away.
From the time I was admitted in the ER to going home 2 days later, I was shown respect and care. I had my gallbladder removed at 50+.
Had a tubal litigation * surgical sterilization for women* this morning and now I can not pee at all. Came to the er and I have been sitting in the triage room for 2 hours and they have done nothing to help me. This place sucks! Dont get surgery or anything done here.
When I was just eight years of age my parents took me to Athens Starr regional medical center for three years straight, with constant severe headaches. every time that I went they told me that it was a bad sinus infection. 90% of the time when I went I seen dr. Callister Sr. My parents would tell them that the sinus medicine was not helping. They never once ran any test. The school at like I was faking,it got to the point to where I was blacking out in class, the teacher would punish me thinking that I was not paying attention. One day my grandmother got a call from the school to come and get me, my eyes was rolled back in my head, I was not responding. They rush me to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga, they did a MRI, when we got home my father got a call and they told him that I had a brain tumor. They had to rush me in for emergency surgery, they said that if I did not make it there within the hour I would had died. thanks to Athens star regional hospital, I am now blind, my life is screwed up. I cannot work, no one will hire me, they say I am a liability because I am blind. I am living on a disability check, which is not much. For years I was angry at God because of my blindness, but now I see it was not God that did this to me it was the doctors,. When I turned 18 I found out that I could had sued the hospital, but I did not know that, now it is too late for me to do anything.thank you Athens star regional for screwing up my life. I would not take my animal. You trust doctors to figure out what is going on, but Athens Starr regional is the sorriest hospital they are.now I have been fighting for the last three years to try to raise money to go get the stem cell procedure to where I might be able to get some of my sight back, I opened up a GoFundMe account under Rebecca Fowler, help Rebecca see again. But no one cares to donate. I am going to have to live the rest of my life like this. Do not make the same mistake that we did.

Also I called before I came, and your registration clerk, was so wonderful, and just as Wonderful when I got to the ER, really relieved my fears and stresses. I didn't catch her name, but Wonderful. Really everyone was.
My 94 year old aunt fell and had to go to the er. First they said she had a hairline hip fracture. Sent her home(assisted living). Two days later er calls her saying to come back to er to see how she is ?? Really! She goes back they say she has two slight fractures. Sends her home again. She falls a week later, while in er doctor calls me saying she having a heart attack. Put her on blood thinner and admit her saying she can t get out of bed and could have a heart attack anytime . New dr comes in on Tuesday, says she has a loos pin in her hip from previous surgery and no break and that her heart is ok. Next day, another cardiologist is there saying he thinks AHS didn t have a heart attack. They will not help clarify anything for us, she at 94, wants no surgery or tests and they will not honor her wishes!!! Do NOT go there!!! It s horrible you can t be sure of good care or doctors who know what they are doing!!
Severe migraine and been sitting in waiting room for an hour with patients ahead of me that has been here for 4 hours and still hasn't been seen. Get with it and consider that patients are suffering while not being seen. Hire more staff whatever it takes. DAM!
Update on my 5 hour wait to see Dr. Came with no relief from medication. Migraine continued for 2 more days. Nurses on shift were so rude and implied that I was there to get drugs. I am totally offended by that and expect an apology from someone?. I urge anybody to not stop at Athens... please go somewhere else where you will be treated with dignity. Website said wait time was 52 minutes. Right so don't believe what it says. There was at least 4 people walked out because of the slow response.
