Had a tasting of their beers. Instead of using hop, they use a spice mixture (named gruut) like they did in the old ages; result is something you know with a special touch or weird twist you don't expect, pretty nice! I like their new place, and people are very friendly :)

Nothing but love for these guys. Our bachelor party showed up at the end of an evening, and they brought us in and gave us the works. Great to see a brewery like these guys thriving!
Quite nice brewery with some quirky touches here and there. Quite well presented and attempts to be a little better quality than it really is. We didn't take the tour, but didn't feel we missed out much. Some nice beers, some not so great - but you can find these all over ghent, so I guess the locals must like it
Tucked away on a side street just outside of the city center, this was the first brewery we stumbled upon in Belgium, and were very glad we did! We didn't take the tour, but the beer was great, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was very low key. We also tried their meat and cheese platter which was excellent! The outdoor patio area is also perfect for sipping a beer on a nice day. I would highly recommend stopping by this place, and will do so the next time I'm back in Ghent!
Slightly off the city centre will be this brewery. Beers here were not exceptional but had their own little charm. They conduct tours and beer infusion (hope I got that right) sessions where you can create your own blend of herbal beer(s). The 'Bruin' was stand out amongst their beer slider. Service would be testy if you've got a crowd. Pretty much a popular place for young tourists and Ghent citizenry alike.
Went here because of the reviews alone. Great choice. Stopped in and did the taster of 5 beers. All winners. Even got a beer to take home as a souvenir. The beers are made with medieval spices according to an old recipe. Worth a trip for any beer lovers.
Great beer in every version. A large space, something like the beer halls found in Germany. Nice and efficient service. Another point that you must visit during beer tourism.
We didn t get to try it because we went there at 8:50pm on a Saturday and they told us they were already closing. Soooo, I guess don t listen to the closing times in here. The interior looked fun though
We went by accident. Very grateful to fate that brought here. A real enjoyment of beer, all five presented were great. The service is at its height. I advise everyone coming to Ghent to visit this place.
Hello, nice brewery decoration of yesteryear me very, nice bar the beer is good also to advise come many for a visit and a tasting, come visit the beautiful city too, follow us on TripAdvisor for other adventures
Small local brewery. Spices are used. This affects the shelf life, but also ensures the typical flavors. Nice excursion with enthusiastic guide. Wonderful tasting during the story
The beers are nevertheless a disappointment. Far too monotonous for a small brewery. Little creativity ... Then the Brouwbar in Ghent is a MUCH better alternative ...
Quirky little hall for tasting the Gruut they brew there. They use various spices to flavor the beer instead of hops, and it tastes great. I had the flight of all 5 beers, and liked them all. They also serve some cheese and meats to snack on while tasting. Nice to support a local Gent brewer that takes some risks.
There is no English menu, but a handsome clerk will teach you carefully in English. Tasting is served in a small glass. At first it would be good to ask for five things. Proeverskes are tasting. However, since every beer is strong, exceeding 7%, Japanese people need to be careful about being too drunk. Personally, Bruin was my favorite. There is no bitterness, the citrus sweetness is delicious, and the strength of alcohol makes you drunk well. Amber is filtering Bruin, so it can be refreshed for processing or Bruin. Wit feels too light to drink, and Inferno has only strong alcohol and can only drink chibi. It s just strong enough to drink. In that situation, I think Brond is the standard and fits the Japanese lager group. Is it still cheese or meat for the sake knob? I made various sets of bacon, homemade mustard and bread, the local food in Ghent. The bread was made by mixing the remaining wheat after the beer fermentation. I have a little beer. With this beer and knob, you can relax on the terrace.
Had a very nice visit! We would join a group for a tour including tasting of 3 beers. However, this group did not show up, so we got a kind of private tour. This consisted of a story at the beginning, and an explanation of the brewing process with the equipment. The beers were tasty but especially the enthusiasm and stories of the people there were very nice! Spent at least 2 hours at this location and drank a nice beer after the tour that was not included in the trial package. Thanks!
We visited the Gruut Brewery during our city trip to Ghent. To be honest, there is not so mucht to see of the brewing process, but the explanation and story given by the personnel is interesting (and humorous). They have a very nice lunch and diner menu and they will of course use beer in their recipes. A nice place to visit just outside the crowded city centre of Ghent.
In addition to good beer, one of the nicest and most original glasses with the mirror :) Personally I liked the old location better, but the new place comes close, just a little more (cozy) clutter.
Very bad experience, paid a lot of money for a few small glasses of beer with story only. That was all. Didn't have a tour No apologies or compensation. Bad !!!
I definitely recommend to visit and especially drink Gentse Gruut beer! That's perfect beer and there are a lot of types. I just don't like their opening hours. I live in Ghent but can't manage to get there after work because they are already closed at that time. Weekends you can enjoy till 11 PM! Worth to visit and drink some original local beer!
Once arrived at the brewery enjoyed the tasting, but a tour was no talk. The beer is brewed at a different location and in addition to the good explanation of the process, we saw nothing of it. Great beer and nice to sit on the terrace!
Great beers. We had the tasting of all 5 of their beers and liked all of them. The wit and the amber were particularly good. Often there are large groups doing the tours and this can make seating outside an issue and service slow. Well worth the wait if you are not in a rush.
Great place, the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable guys... Had a cool afternoon there and had great beers and great company. Keep it up guys!!
We went Jun 18 and the beer was really good - the brown was phenomenal and our bartender was about as friendly and helpful as can be. We got the flight of all six beers and some cheese and smoked bacon too! Located right in the city it s probably walking distance from wherever you are.
This new location wasn't finished yet when we visited, and the opening hours were a bit confusing (possibly because of the construction) but if you see that this place is open and serving beer, go in and get yourself one.
We were with about 14 people, there is no real tour given the size of the case. Always interesting to visit a brewery, this was a messy visit. At one point I wondered in which farce I had come into being when the tour guide hinted that he did not know much about it. Like, among other things, the yeast.
