If you suspect a Stroke go to UCSF or a hospital that specializes in strokes. St. Mary's was a mistake...a mistake that never should have happened....their ER physicians lack training, experience, compassion, and passion for their job, at least the one who treated my friend. My friend had a stroke arrived within 20 minutes of onset and was denied tpa treatment. For ischemic strokes this can be a death sentence....the doctor didn't want to bother having the added stress of a potential hemorrhage so she took the easy way out which was to deny treatment.

St. Mary s Medical Center is one of the best hospitals. One of the last times I went to St. Mary s Medical Center was back in July 2005 to get a blood test done. I walked to the front desk, did the registration and I've waited around 5 minutes then it was my turn to get the blood test done. Their services were very efficient and their staff were helpful and knowledgable!

A complete and total scam. I went to the student clinic as a student from USF with a mildly cut finger since the school is too cheep to pay for an on campus nurse (even though basic tuition is north of $45000 a year). They sent me to the ER refusing to even look at my cut, which had stopped bleeding at this point. The ER cleaned the cut and super glued it together. Final bill, $4500!!!!! These people are crooks disguised as a religious organize. St. Satan is what this place should be called. Save yourself money and just go to UCSF. I can't believe you people running this organization claim to be helping people. You should be disgusted in yourselves. How do you look at yourselves in the mirror in the morning????

On January 17 th I went to the emergency room at saint Mary's in San Francisco CA Stanyan location. I went to admit myself in because my tonsils we were touching and I can barely breathe. A year prior to that I was shot twice once in my back and wrist so there was an issue of me filling out the paperwork as well sitting down do to.my gun shot wounds. My tonsils were so swollen I could barely talk the lady called security on me they told me to leave because the way I was talking to her and to call the super visor. I did so then I had to catch the bus up to UC hospital on Parnassus they took my vitals and told.me I have to stay over night admitted there to stay over night for issue of my throat being so close that they were touching and I could nt breath there was no reason for me to leave there and go to a further hospital away from my house with out checking my vitals or nothing anything could have happened

When I go to see the doctor at St Mary's I'll tell the doctor my complaint and he or she tells me what they will look at. They dictate to me what they will do at that time and it can't be more than two complaints because they will only take care of two anything else will have to wait. I've had the same issue going on for over six years and they all tell me they'll look at it next time but they have said that the entire six years. One doctor instead of dealing with my issue he put that i was delusional. That was the easiest way to deal with it so every doctor at that clinic sees that and ignores me. I'm going there long enough to have this problem solved by a doctor from somewhere else then sue the doctors at St Marys and the clinic. I do not recommend the Sister Mary Philippa clinic at all.

You guys suck. You hit me with a bill from 2007 for a workman's comp issue that should have been billed to the Embarcadero YMCA. Then I try to resolve your misbilling by staying on hold for 15 minutes. Then you give me a call back option and never call me back. Then I get to wait on hold again for a rep to correct a bill that should have never been billed to me in the first place. Get your billing together and don't harass people with erroneous / fraudulent fees.

Absolutely terrible. My daughter was in their adolescent psych unit. They give the patients ballpoint pens and then lock them in their room at night. The psychiatrist told me my 14 year old was a sociopath after one meeting with her and then later diagnosed her with depression. The social worker was disempowering to family. They insisted on discharging my daughter even as she said during her discharge meeting that she didnt feel safe. Their aftercare plan was nonexistent. We were told to live on hope. Let me just hope that my daughter doesnt committ suicide. Next time my daughter is on a 5150 I will refuse for her to be transferred to that hospital. I already have an attorney on retainer and will be contacting him later today. Absolutely disgusting care.

All in all my experience in connection with hip surgery was as pleasant as could be expected. I miss having my wife and others being able to visit me, but my time in the hospital was brief and nurses attending to me helped break up the day.

My boyfriend's grandad was admitted here after a tragic stroke that left him in need of therapy to regain use of his legs and right arm. This medical center is calm and quiet. Also parking is free on nights and weekends which is a relief in SF. They make the rooms more of a comfortable stay. He will be released tomorrow after 36 days of constant treatment, so thank you for everything you have done to make him comfortable and get that smile back!

Romona and edna the nurses on staff there. And even. The dr that treated even called me the next day for to ask how i was feeling. And has always treated me with respect. Kindness and with dignity. "Haha ill never forget some guy was demanding narcotics for pain. Knowing he was faking it. And Romona starting singing " you always dont get what ya waannnaat"

Absolute garbage. Very briefly examined, almost no discernable evidence that the staff knows much of anything of medicinal care. Im pretty sure i have a broken hip. They said it was bruised after a few x-rays and a pain killer. Then sent me packing on crutches. With their scumbag security hawking through the door eager to physically remove me from the property as ive seen them do to countless other patients. Leaving them outside in a gown with none of their personal property and possibly with more injuries than they were admitted with. Absolute garbage!

Eric and Mary in the ER were awesome! I came in pretty scared and they were so helpful and compassionate. They were so patient too.

The nurses Dolly and Mary and Dr. Gupta were amazing as well once I got admitted to the hospital. They do everything they can to make sure you are comfortable and understand what is going on.

Thank you to everyone so much.

What a complete dump. The E.R. Is so Filthy I couldn t believe my eyes when I walked in. The hospital staff are very rude and the doctor seemed rude as well. No compassion for the patients. I highly recommend Sutter Health. That s where I go now and wow what a difference in the Quality of service and treatment you receive. This dump is like the Walmart of hospitals dirty staff rude and doctors don t seem to care.

I should ve done this review when my mom was here ...

I should ve done this review when my mom was here in 2016 but she passed away and that fell on the wayward. Then my brother-in-law was also in this hospital and he passed away last year too. Not that it was because of the hospital or anything like that but let me start off with...I m very, very pleased with this hospital. I happen to be Catholic and it is a Catholic hospital, but also the fact that everybody was so kind and nice. My mom had mitral valve surgery and from the time my mom was there for 2 weeks because of symptoms to making sure she has the right surgeon, the care that was given to her before and after the surgery was superb. My sister & I took turns staying with my mom and guess what, we were even with her when she was at the ICU. I don t think that s allowed in other hospitals but when I asked them, they said, most of the time if patients have their family in the hospital with them, they recover quickly. My sister & I were at St Mary s for about a month and they were very accommodating to us. We got to take care of my mom, I got to work remotely (free WiFi) and my mom eventually went home. However, she died peacefully in her sleep a month after. Fast forward to last year, my brother-in-law was in his stage 4 cancer and before he was sent home for hospice, St. Mary s took care of him and our family as well. They moved him to a bigger beautiful room with lots of space and beautiful views. He was able to take in visitors who wanted to see him. There were no time restrictions for visitors which is another first not for me and my sister, we know the drill, but for our family and friends who s not used to it. They provided the family with coffee, tea, donuts, pastries, protein bar, which is new to us too. That is a very sweet gesture. Last week, I was the patient, I had a total knee replacement and I was very happy to know that they haven t changed. The nurses and the staff are all still wonderful, no visitor restrictions and I really really appreciate everybody that works in this hospital. Yes, it is old. Yes, it s not as fancy as the newer hospitals but you get excellent care. I felt so special during the time I was here. My doctors are all affiliated with St. Mary s and they all visited me during my stay. I m all for comfort and care and this hospital provides it. When I go here, I get everything done faster so no long wait lines and I prefer that over a shiny, fancy hospital where your wait time is almost a day. Don t ever ever change.

Most unprofessional hospital ever! Should be shut down!!!! Crew has no idea how to take care of patients!!!!! Tests administered incorrectly causing false positives! Doctors not carefully monitoring patients in recovery after surgery resulting in a 911 return visit from hemorage inflicted by hospital!!!

WORST hospital ever! Should be shut down! ZERO Stars!!!

(PT Dept) I wish I could leave a review about services rendered, but this center has been closed for months, and it still is, while similar ones are accepting patients. Calling their line will connect you to a know- nothing person who will prompt you to call the Dept of Health for information and hang up on you.
Given the lack of information provided, the reluctance into checking on any paperwork and their kick-the-can attitude, I am not going to find out if their therapist are any more dedicated and qualified than the intake people, and will have PT elsewhere.

The staff at St Mary s was efficient, attentive and kind. It s never easy when you have to go into surgery, Dr Van Warmaden is an excellent surgeon and her staff is focused on having strong communication with her patients. I felt safe and well cared for during this difficult time. St Marys staff Is the best part of St Mary s hospital.

This ER is quickly becoming more and more like a dump. The doctors do not take the time to examine you and most of the nurses just don't seem to care, I saw an heard one of them mistreat an elderly woman on the bed next to me. And I even had one of their hospital doctors tell me that he does not trust any doctors in the ER. Their own hospital doctor said this. Whomever is in charge needs to, first off come down and see things for themselves, also several nurses was getting into it over some lady name Maria and how she never helps with EKG's
This place use to be good, now I am telling everyone I know to go to Kaiser.

Speaking as someone who was at this hospital for almost a week. My experience as a patient was a great one.The nurses and staff make you feel at home. If you are having any problems with anything or you just need some help, they will be there. If you have any questions or concerns, they will gladly answer them for you. If you are having medical or emotional problems, they will be there to help you.

S/M/H billed my family $400 to remove a tick on my dad s stomach in 1992. I was at McAuley Institute in 1991. Cheated on the IQ test. Listened to Cece Penniston Finally it happened to me with the other troubled teens in the looney bin. but in many ways we made more sense than the normal people. it was the 1990s

My dad went here to get a tick removed from the belly button. They charged by dad $400 to remove the tick. My dad could have smothered the tick with peanut butter for it to fall off. Thanks alot nurses and doctors!

Also I was a troubled teen here in high school in 1990s. Well actually I think I was freaking out and traumatized by the strange students at Lowell High School and so many people at French American weren't motivated. The high schools in San Francisco aren't the best high school experiences. I would have gone to Galileo.

Actually I had fun being tricked into going here for a month around Christmas. We were committed to social justice and hip hop was at its peak. I had 2 roommates there and that was fun. I was restrained because I did not want to have them search my underwear. That's kind of child abuse technically. I was labelled with bipolar and told the shrink that I was only unipolar. My mom sent me to 5 shrinks before one agreed with her and had me committed to this teen mental institution. We were known as messed up in those days. It was fun, I was connecting with a crowd of deeper people with interests that extended beyond their own matters.

The food here was good, I was taking calculus in the mental school, and I got a glance at the IQ test as the 2nd half was going to finished the next day.

Now I am an MGFYA writer. i am also writing about mental health. The shrinks used to say that no one has ever recovered from mental illness. Medication is the only solution. That's completely false. If 20 millions have a mental illness diagnosis at some point, then statistically wrong. The shrink's license should have been rescinded.

So far so good all the nursing staff have been exceptionally wonderful! I have another procedure coming up in a day so I m not done yet. I ve only had one meal and it was surprisingly pretty good I was like a sweet-and-sour chicken with some nice brown rice and fresh green beans. More Later... some of the food was just so-so but the last day I was there had to been the best for me anyway I was I had a lovely hamburger and french fries that were thick and yummy hand the food on the whole I would say about half and half half good half not so good. I will say the view from my room was on the seventh floor was amazing like a five-star hotel view I love that ! All the nurses who took care of me were exceptionally wonderful I wanted to personally thank them one was Kim RN, the other was another nurse from the Ukrain all the nurses who took care of me were exceptionally wonderful I wanted to personally thank them one was Kim RN, the other was another nurse from Russia she was very sweet I don t remember her name and several others that I can t remember their names even the housekeepers were sweet the kitchen staff was wonderful. Dr. Charles Lee did my skin graph on to my very deep wound on my heel and it seems to be healing fine yay

Possibly the worst hospital policy of all hospital...

Possibly the worst hospital policy of all hospitals for parents. Their strict parental visit is only one hour per day between 6:45 to 7:45 pm. No other visitations are allowed outside of that. It is a nightmare for anyone if your love ones will be admitted to St. Mary's Medical Center. The inside of the building is old and poorly staffed. I'm told by the security guard that the building houses three different hospitals and names. The elevators to certain floors are locked so no one can access it without the staff member.

I had a procedure on June 5, 2017 and all the staff and nurses were very professional, nice and friendly. Special recognition goes to nurse Anne Riley who was very caring, compassionate and very supportive, Anne made me feel comfortable from the very start. She even massaged my forehead during the procedure when she saw that I was in pain and made me feel good knowing that someone cares. When I thanked her after the procedure for the massage, Anne informed me that she was actually saying a prayer for comfort and healing. Anne was such an angel. Her gentleness and sincerity really touched me in a very special way. Special thanks also goes to Lisa Perry and Queen and last but not the least, to Dr. Michael Taylor who did the procedure. Dr. Taylor was very nice, professional and very efficient. Thank you so much for accommodating me and thank you for the successful procedure. Thank you also to Dr. Jose Eguia for coordinating and for making the procedure done at St. Mary's. I really appreciate the kindness of everyone at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Whatever time you make your appointment just get ready to wait about 30 min or more until they see you. General facilities outdated and very confusing so give yourself extra time to figure out where you need to go. Doctors vary.

The doctor who treated me were really kind but the other nurses tending other patients were rude and treated me as if I was just another homeless who was giving hard time . I would give a 2 star from that experience that nurse gave me but the doctor who treated was really nice and caring. All I did was asked the other nurse politely because I know she was busy if she can give me a pillow for my arm. Her response to me was with a rude looking, VERY annoyed face While annoyingly yelling at me it ll take few minutes and I never seen her come near me again. Just let me know if you don t want to help me next time, instead of letting me be in excruciating pain waiting for help from some nurse! I honestly never been in a hospital so rude to patients, not just me but the other Asian lady next to me too. It s too bad UCSF and General was too packed that day because I would ve gone there because they re all so respectful and kind to all kinds of patients. If you re a homeless the nurses from this hospital will look down on you and I ve seen that with my own two eyes on how they treat them. I don t want to come back here ever nor would I recommend anyone of my family or friends to come here. I don t want anyone I know get a possibility of getting treated the same way the Asian lady next to was treated.

I was on a trip to San Francisco, and suffered a deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. The emergency room at one hospital transported me to Saint Mary's because of their superior care for embolisms. It was a Sunday morning, but the hospital was operating just as fully as if it were a weekday during business hours (that's an issue I've run into before in hospitals - it's bad to be sick on a weekend). Care was friendly and professional, as well as capable.

I am currently being treated by Karl von Tiesenhausen for a ruptured post tib and have improved enough to avoid surgery. In the past Karl also treated me after a total knee replacement until I was recovered. He is patient and listens along the way.
