My husband had by pass surgery on August 4, yesterday he was complaining of pain in his right side rib cage area.
I decided to take him to st Joe s Er because that was where his surgery was. Because of the fact that he had major surgery three weeks prior I thought he would be seen fairly quickly.
This was not the cases we arrived there before 10:30 in the morning and we were still sitting in the Er at 7:00 that night. A half hour after we arrived they called us to take the 90 dollar co pay we had to dish out but then we sat there without medical care for 9 hours. The only person available to talk to about the fact that we had sat there for nine hours was the receptionist. All she kept saying there wasn t a room available.
When we arrived there was only three people sitting in the waiting room. When we left the waiting room was full of people. After waiting 9 hours we walked out of the Er without care for my husband. The receptionist didn t care that we were leaving, there was no concern for his safety what so ever. We couldn t get any answers on how much longer we would have to sit there. Perhaps all night, so my suggestion don t go to st Joe s Er!!!!

FYI, a follow up to Ron s visit to the ER.
The next morning Ron s cardiac surgeon called and wanted to know Ron s outcome at the ER. So I explained to them how we left after nine hours. They said they could get the test results. They called us back and said it was rib fractures.
Then I called st Joe s and put in a formal complaint. 20 minutes later the er doctor on duty gave us a call. Coincidence I think not!!
The doctor from the Er said it s pneumonia. I said wait a minute the cardiologist said it s fractured ribs so which one is it? He said let me read the report, oh yes he says the report says fractured ribs in it also. Then I said you know he just had heart surgery three weeks ago correct? He said no I wasn t aware of that.
What the HELL , how am I suppose to believe anything this ER says?? They re completely clueless!!
Needless to say we followed up with his regular family doctor and he is treating him now.
My advice don t go to st Joe s ER!!

I'm not sure if they are severely understaffed or if they just don't care when it comes to nursing.. My wife was there for 2 weeks and here are my observations: 40 to 60 minutes to answer a call bell. I ended up having to get her out of bed and to the toilet myself when I was there visiting. She was on the PCU and I would have to disconnect the cardiac monitor to get her to the toilet. Not a single response to the extended alarms going off. If she would have been in real cardiac trouble, I doubt the response would have been in time to help. When I wasn't there, the nurses pulled the bed soaker pad up between her legs like a diaper and just let her lay in it. I found her in this state on multiple occasions. Two weeks there and they did not bathe my wife once. She ended up getting a UTI 10 days after admission. See my earlier complaint about them letter her lay there soaking in her own urine. I'm really at a loss to even try to continue explaining how bad it was when it comes to the nurses. I know that they can't all be that bad, but they didn't do anything in 2 weeks to show me differently. The lone bright spot was the Doctors were competent and professional.

Go anywhere else if you value your health, or your loved ones health. Their mistakes in how they handle patients cost people dearly. Missing blatant signs of major issues that other medical institutions caught instead, all too late unfortunately.

It's ironic that St. Joeseph's motto is "a higher level of care" it's the complete opposite of that, the past few times myself and my family chose St. Joes they were subjected to excessive wait times (a couple visits were pre-covid) in the waiting room often times with people not wearing masks because their security and staff do not enforce the mask requirements.

Right now my grandparents in their late 80s have been sitting in the waiting room since 11:30am waiting to be treated, they brought my grandfather back for some preliminary tests and blood work for his chest pain and shortness of breath and told them to go wait back out in the waiting room and a Doctor would be with them, it's now 10:50pm and they're still sitting there waiting.

If you are sick or injured please seek a different hospital as St. Joes provides an absolutely miserable patient experience.

My brother was admitted to the ER, I could NOT get anyone to answer the phone for his status, after repeatedly being hung up on. I live an hour and a half away. I finally got a nurse in a different area to check, they left me on hold on the ER phone, which I heard all the nurses conversations about, their plans for the weekend, their kids schedules, how awful the patients were and the horrible families for 25 minutes!! Not to mention the phones just ringing in the background which they just ignored and discussed their recipes- unbelievable. I would like to thank the nurse who went out of her way to get me the status on my brother, she was kind, professional and caring.

"Off like a herd of turtles"

-You may wait for more than 8 hours, if you return you may wait more than 8 hours again.

-You'll be ignored. You may have your name called and be ready multiple times. You'll sit down again and wait longer.

-There's no apology, no explanation. Its business as usual for medical, but worse. You'll be lucky if they offer up the "we're busier than usual".

-Doesn't matter your condition. When they finally do get you in, you may even be laughed at for complaining of things that may be life-threatening after waiting all day. No confidence or humanity will be expressed.

-You'll pay, and you'll wonder, when did I authorize that? You may ask for a break-down while in the hospital or an estimate prior to giving permission for testing or treatment, none will be given to you.

The majority of reviews for this place are 1-star. Take that as you will.

My daughter was having a lot of issues with her pregnancy (ended up delivering at 18 weeks ). St. Joe's was no help. Sent her home & repeatedly said she could deliver at home. Thank God she didn't and went to Crouse because she would have died of hemorrhaging!

Good afternoon,
