My husband had by pass surgery on August 4, yesterday he was complaining of pain in his right side rib cage area.
I decided to take him to st Joe s Er because that was where his surgery was. Because of the fact that he had major surgery three weeks prior I thought he would be seen fairly quickly.
This was not the cases we arrived there before 10:30 in the morning and we were still sitting in the Er at 7:00 that night. A half hour after we arrived they called us to take the 90 dollar co pay we had to dish out but then we sat there without medical care for 9 hours. The only person available to talk to about the fact that we had sat there for nine hours was the receptionist. All she kept saying there wasn t a room available.
When we arrived there was only three people sitting in the waiting room. When we left the waiting room was full of people. After waiting 9 hours we walked out of the Er without care for my husband. The receptionist didn t care that we were leaving, there was no concern for his safety what so ever. We couldn t get any answers on how much longer we would have to sit there. Perhaps all night, so my suggestion don t go to st Joe s Er!!!!
FYI, a follow up to Ron s visit to the ER.
The next morning Ron s cardiac surgeon called and wanted to know Ron s outcome at the ER. So I explained to them how we left after nine hours. They said they could get the test results. They called us back and said it was rib fractures.
Then I called st Joe s and put in a formal complaint. 20 minutes later the er doctor on duty gave us a call. Coincidence I think not!!
The doctor from the Er said it s pneumonia. I said wait a minute the cardiologist said it s fractured ribs so which one is it? He said let me read the report, oh yes he says the report says fractured ribs in it also. Then I said you know he just had heart surgery three weeks ago correct? He said no I wasn t aware of that.
What the HELL , how am I suppose to believe anything this ER says?? They re completely clueless!!
Needless to say we followed up with his regular family doctor and he is treating him now.
My advice don t go to st Joe s ER!!
