We didn't stay here, but this was the second time visiting to eat at the hotel's restaurant. The first time I came I had a wonderful experience and this time it was even better!! I was with my mom this time so we explored the grounds of the hotel. The place has all these hidden rooms I didn't even know about!! One room had this beautiful organ, and one room had a beautiful fireplace with chairs sitting around it. It feels like you're in a different era walking through the place. The basement had the cutest Christmas village set up on top of a really old vault. All the decor is beautiful!!! I just want to come back all the time and take more pics!!

The hotel's shops are way too expensive for clothing. Like $200 for a sweater, and I'm pretty sure that was even on clearance! Wow. But I found one of the best smelling candles I've ever smelt! - Wood-smoke. I definitely suggest checking them out for the smaller items.

Disappointed in the fact I specifically reserved a king bed suite with a whirlpool jacuzzi. After checking in and heading to our room, we discovered the jets were not working in the whirlpool and there was hair in the bathtub. We called down to the front desk and was told by Sarah we could move or get a bottle of champagne. (The other room did not have a River view). We declined to move and asked if maintenance could come the following day to see if the jets could be repaired. Sarah said she would see what she could do. We stayed two nights and never heard anything. When we checked out, we mentioned that our tub did not work. The front desk girl (Kelly) said she never heard anything g but would out a work order in. So disappointing. This did not help us after the fact. We stayed two nights and spent quite a bit of money for the king suite with whirlpool. It was a special occasion and the hotel failed in its response and lack of good customer service.

Last weekend I booked a room online. When we got to the hotel they stated they were sold out and didn t have a room for us. The gentleman asked when we booked and what website. I showed him our reservation and that we booked on Expedia earlier that day. He stated that he would email his manager but they didn t have a room. I told him I better not be charged and he said I had to contact Expedia to get my money back. I asked if he was going to find us another room in town and he looked upset and said I can call other properties in town to see if they have any rooms ..at that point I said I ll do it myself. Very disappointed and the manager never reached out.

Beautiful historic hotel. We stayed one night at the gorgeous board room on the second level. Enjoyed drinks and great service at the Port bar and wonderful food at the Scarlet restaurant. Picked up flowers at the flower shop in the lobby to take home with us. Would definitely stay again!

Absolutely grand! Each table and chair set is unique. Very well spaced. Wine and cocktail selection is very good. Whiskey selection is great. Can hardly wait until they open for dining again. The atmosphere is an old elegant speak easy. Highly recommended.

Always an excellent stay, can t believe I haven t dropped a review before. The St James is a hotel you ll love if you like history, quality service and traditional hospitality.

I d also recommend the banquet services if you re looking for an event space - for catered foods, try the chicken Brie or the pot pie, they re phenomenal.

I ll write a separate review of the Port and the Scarlet (formerly the Veranda, since remodeled) but I d encourage you to check either one out without hesitation.
