SRL Kanuhura - Maldives Review

We stayed in Kanuhura in June to July in 2019. It was meant to be a place in the sun, a few moments to reflect and soak up nature in the most stunning way possible. It didn't disappoint.
From the moment we arrived in Male and were held in the reception suite at the airport, we were treated with care and dedication. Our welcome reception on the jetty and the guided tour of the island and our bunglaow was handled professionally and in the most welcoming way possible.
Our family of 5 with three boys under 9 were kept entertained throughout the stay - they all loved the individual attention of the team at Kids Club and genuinely fell in love with those looking after them (Monix and Nishana).
Big thanks as well to Wabbe, Jasef and Gille for topping up our mimosas and making sure that we (as parents) had time to relax and enjoy the spledour of the resort.
Special thanks to our lovely host, Mansour, to Raja, and Vel. You all excelled at what you do and we would love the chance to see you again one day.
I would utterly recommend Kanuhura for a luxurious stay - a world away from reality and sunsets to die for. If you're looking for gorgeous beaches, stunning sunsets and snorkelling and diving to take your breath away (speaking to the dive school about the best sites nearby), you should visit Kanuhura.

Your rooms in this rather large property come with bikes for you to explore the islands which is open to guests almost on all sides. The sea around is calm and some spots perfect for spotting fishes at all times. Our rooms came with an almost infinity plunge pool and was a 1 minute walk in to the ocean.

Their breakfast with a dynamic fresh fruit fruit juice list, an average of 20 on any given day kickstarted our day. The food spans global cuisines with theme nights at their beach side main dining room,Italian fare at the air conditioned/al freso diner and their ocean view bar is perfect for a glass of sparkling and a cold salad or a sandwich on a warm day.

Lastly the staff here is very friendly and willing to go any length to make your stay comfortable.The F&B team, our room concierge, the chefs and even the security associate ensured we were taken care of well.Show less

amazing experience - perfect hospitality, comfortable rooms, great food and produce, dream location

Incredible stay at Kanuhura with 7 nights in a beach bungalow and 2 nights in a water villa. The bungalow was very nice with a large section of private beach and close to the "heart" , however the water villa was fantastic. Large and modern with a small lounge area separate to the bedroom. Good snorkeling around the villa with small clown fish amongst others right at the base of the steps into the water. The food was brilliant at all the restaurants, even the buffet, and the chefs are always on hand to explain the different dishes on offer. The staff cannot do enough to make your trip as relaxing as possible. Despite visiting whilst the island was 90% full it felt like 10%. Its never a problem finding your own section of private beach around the island. As soon as we can afford to we will return!

Excellent servcie from the moment we were met at male airport and return. The friendliest staff I've ever experienced, and they coped with the torrential rain and changes in circumstances (opening restaurant when no outside dining was possible etc)

Stunning island. Most friendly staff I ve ever met in a hotel. Magical feeling. White sandy beeches and plenty of warm ocean water with lots of sea life to see. Food in dedicated restaurants excellent. Main buffet is good but the food could do with being hotter in this restaurant.

Expensive but worth saving for - a slice of paradise is a calm azure ocean.

The staff are friendly and villa host, Kazu is friendly and helpful. White sandy beaches for both sunrises and sunsets. Pristine clear azure blue waters and well landscaped gardens. Great spa facilities. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable and the outdoor shower is great. Free bicycle to roam the island in and free boat ride to sister island. And the island is isolated and is quiet which is great. Airport arrival pick up to seaplane and seaplane transfer from resort back to airport well organised and the 45 minute flight is worth taking. Had a great relaxing time at the resort.

A memorable holiday in perfect surroundings with outstanding staff to make the experience even more wonderful. I had a fantastic time from the very first moment I stepped off the plane in Male to being greeted and transported to a private lounge to wait for the seaplane to the moment I left the beautiful, magical island.
The accommodation was perfect (including the little gecko on the outside wall). I enjoyed my private pool, relaxing in it numerous times each day.
All the staff at the Sun Dive centre were amazing and I had a wonderful time on each dive, especially seeing the Mantas two days in a row.
The food was amazing, it was lovely to be greeted and called by my name as I went for breakfast or dinner, such a personal touch.
Adam my host made sure everything was perfect, checking in with me a number of times each day to double check I had everything I needed and organising things for me.
I was made to feel most welcome by all staff but in particular the management team made great effort to ensure I was enjoying my stay, thank you :)
Everything was spotless thanks to the teams cleaning the rooms, cleaning the pool and maintaining the grounds.
Thank you for a truly magical holiday, I hope to be back soon.

Every aspect of our vacation at Kanuhura was amazing. From the delightful lounge at the airport in Male to the warm send-off at the conclusion of our stay, it all exceeded my expectations. Every staff member was polite and friendly, the food was amazing, our "hut" was just beautiful, and the island was gorgeous. The designs, colors, even the staff members' clothing were all lovely. I've traveled quite a bit and stayed at some fine resorts, but this one tops my list, just because all of the details were so well done. It's a long way from my home in Chicago, but I want to go back! Thank you all for making my stay so memorable!

Just the most beautiful place... Everything you need for a tropical escape

Amazing relaxing place with the right amount of pampering from the team here

I stayed in Kanhura from 11/12 to 16/12 in a water villa. The rooms have been recently renovated and offer space and comfort. Breakfast is excellent and plentiful, nothing is really missing. The Veli and Bottega restaurants offer a wide range of quality menus. The SPA program is inviting for those who love this type of relaxation, the beach is truly dreamy and equipped with various types of seating. The staff is friendly and helpful. The vegetation in general seems to have suffered a little but during our stay I saw that the staff was working to improve this aspect too and I am sure that those who will arrive for the week of Christmas and New Year will find everything perfect

An awesome resort to spend a few days on! Villas are modern, beaches are clean, and lots of sealife in the vicinity! I am talking about baby sharks, stingrays and assorted fish! Had a blast, and special thanks to our host Amu for his help throughout our stay!

Heavenly place, discreet and incredibly kind staff, varied and delicious food.

This is the first visit to the Maldives and in particular this island is very beautiful very quiet high safety, of course the negative thing after Morocco there are no events, I can not talk about the high price of some services because this is very normal

A paradise on earth !!! :)

We went to Kanuhura for our honeymoon and that was the best decision.
As my wife immediately discovered, Kanuhura is a paradise. The wonderful island has everything to feel like in heaven.
A wide range of restaurants, many opportunities for leisure activities and a small twin island.
The restaurant "A Mano" offers a plentiful breakfast menu, with an enormous and varied selection of fresh fruit available every day, and has a buffet every evening, the kitchen of which has a different theme every weekday.
We also really enjoyed the Bottega restaurant, fabulous Italian cuisine. The spinach gnocchi were excellent!
The twin island Jenuhura was almost our private island. No guests and was even more natural than Kanuhura. You can find rabbits and chickens on the island! A small restaurant is available for catering. Our romantic dinner took place here. It was unique - sunset, moonlight!
We booked a wonderful snorkeling trip and had a wonderful view of the underwater world of the Maldives!

We couldn't have imagined a better place for our honeymoon! :)

The only thing that was not working is the coffee machine in the room. It was broken (the milk compartment)

What can I say about Kanhura and Maldives in general? I knew I was travelling to one of the most beautiful places on earth but what I experienced was beyond beautiful. The breathtaking water villa was my home for four nights and the experiences - be it the fantastic cocktail party on the beach to the trip to Jehunuhura island for lunch - will remain etched in my memory forever. This is a trip and a stay that has set unattainable benchmarks for my next holiday. Loved every moment of it.

It would be better for the environment if we could communicate that our bath towels did not have to be changed daily. Since we are not used to coffee capsules, short instructions on how to use them would be helpful. Also, smaller drinking water bottles that can be refrigerated would be great.
Overall, Kanuhura really provided us with timeless memories!

Just words fall short to describe this resort its paradise on earth

I have been to Kanuhura starting of December, with my wife Veronika and my daughter Mia.

It was simply amazing:

We were looking for a place to rest and come down from our daily hassle in Europe. We chose to stay on Kanuhura because of the great reviews, reviews which seemed almost too good to be true. But in fact, people are right, it is amazing.

We were welcomed in such a nice and great way, we really felt special. The landscape is amazing, perfect beaches, silence, no cars, no disturbing sound, apart the planes landing, but it felt like the planes came 2 times a day (I think there are planes 3 to 4 times a day), so this was not an issue at all. Especially because we were in one of the water pool villas, on the other side of the landing zone.

Our villa was amazing, too! It was huge and extremely clean (they clean twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening). Great is the outdoor bathtub in the villa, amazing feeling to take a bath half outside half inside. We also had a small pool, which was great for our daughter, and for us of course. The villa has access to the ocean (ladder) so snorkeling was easily feasible.
You will also have a villa host (we had 2 because 1 had two days off), I want to send both of them my regards (sorry sorry sorry for the misspelling): Ahazan and Hassan.
Both of them were simply great, I got my daily ice cubes for my Gin & Tonic ;-))

The rest of the hotel was extremely clean, too. I still wonder how they do it, you don t see the staff cleaning up, anyways, it is a pleasure to be on this island. Especially the little night walk from the core island to the sushi restaurant, you feel like in a cozy and clean little jungle.
We didn t try all the activities like diving or fishing, we just wanted to rest and enjoy our time with our little 4 months old daughter. But there are a lot of activities, just check their homepage. Cool thing is the neighbor island, we went there with a boat (2 minutes trip), we were ALONE on that island, this is called peace! We already felt alone on the main island, but on the second, we were!

Concerning food, this is something I will resume in 2 words, please excuse the harsh word: Food Porn!! The Chef, Michele, seems to be everywhere! He looks always so strict, but as soon as you say Hello, he shows his greatest and honest smile. I suppose he must be under stress to keep that amazing level of cuisine

Joke besides, the food is terrifically amazing, pure pleasure. They say that guests leave the island with +1 to +2 kilos which was not true in our case because we went to the small but super clean gym (a little hello to Jimmy, the nice fitness coach) almost every day, we played tennis 4 or 5 times in those 2 weeks (a little hello the tennis coach Jaroslav), played 3 times Squash (yes, they have a Squash court) and did our jogging around the island almost every day (2,1km if I am not wrong).

Every morning (breakfast, no comment, you can imagine how it is ;-)) the villa host comes the greet you and asks you if you need anything.

Suresh, I suppose he is one of the managers, greets you every morning and every evening and he makes the impossible possible. We wanted to have a table in one of the restaurants, which was booked out completely, but he made it happen. Actually, I have the feeling they never say No . They all make your stay simply unforgettable.

Another very nice person, I forgot the name, sorry, a German lady who worked also in Luxembourg, I suppose also one of the managers. Great person who speaks almost every language (I had the feeling )

Conclusion:
AMAZING!!! Nothing to add, simply AMAZING.
We all thank you for our great stay there, we will surely come back, that s why we checked the island villas, our daughter will surely be running around January next year, so a water villa might not be the best idea ;-)

All of those I forgot, sorry, time passed, but I can assure you we will surely not forget anyone!

Exceptional !!! Beautiful place, impeccable service and a luxurious gastronomy! Walking on the bikes of the island is the cheapest!

My wife and i took a short 2 day break at Kanuhura. The property, after the renovation completed in 2016 end, has a chic classy look. The bars, restaurants and the service are outstanding. We, of course, given the limited time could not try out all the dining outlets. Veli was outstanding for a dinner under the stars - good selection of vegetarian Asian cuisine for us. The villa host was very knowledgeable and helpful in organizing our reservations for dining. conch bar provides a relaxed ambience to chill over a drink at any time.

The food , the villa and most of all the Kanuhura family were exceptional.

We had a truly lovely stay at Kanuhura. The staff was friendly and professional, the food was spectacular, the service was amazing, and we had a lot of fun on the island. Kanuhura offers a variety of different water based activities and the trip itself had been an experience that our family won't forget. We would most definitely come and visit here again.

In Kanuhura everithing it's amazing, the staff, facilities, nature, food. We had a wonderful experience with ours room manager Sabina that was simple amazing, kind, helpfull for all ours days in the Resort.

Waste management - be more environmentally friendly - we notice that the boat / barge you are using to transport the waste away from the island use no protection netting to keep the bags on the boat while shipping. It is vey easy that bags can drop in the sea and make severe damages to sea life (plastics will enter directly to the sea).
Coral reef that was on the east looked completely destroyed - may be conservation program can be initiated - I think the guests will be very excited to take part in it.

Excellent resort, definitely recommend to families with children, our villa host Ashab will be our reason to come back again

Wow - this place was like heaven on earth. My husband and I went to Kanuhura for a week for our honeymoon in July. We stayed in a water villa which was perfect; spacious, private and beautifully decorated. We were given bikes to get around which was fun and complementary snorkelling gear which we utilised daily to see the plethora of colourful fish right on our doorstep. The food in the great selection of restaurants was exceptional (we were on an all inc. food package which was very generous with hardly any restrictions) and the service was top notch. A huge thank you to Kanuhura (especially Latheef, Suresh and Vel) for delivering on the best honey moon possible, I can't wait to come back.

Good vibe - great diving - water villas highly recommended

We had a fantastic time. Difficult to fault the resort, service, friendliness and attention to detail. I guess the only one criticism is the food service at the pool bar. It suffers I believe from the distance between the bar and the kitchen.

Everything was more than wonderful, and my expectations were honestly exceeded, actually paradise in the ground.
I was very impressed and welcomed by the staff and we stayed, throughout my stay, smile, respect and honesty in dealing with us.

As already mentioned to Mrs. Ulli, we suggest to place a note in the bathroom (in the language of the guest) that towels to be replaced should be droped f.e. in the bathtub.
Also to change the linen of the bed every 3 day (even if the board is place on the bed) is a waste of sources.

The only thing which was not perfect is the noise of the Generator - kind of disturbing on a island

Exemplary! Out of this world experience. The attention to detail by the resort and its amazing staff have made this holiday unforgettable. Couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our 20th anniversary!

It was nice to chill and food was outstanding staff were like a family and that our heart.

All staff were great and super accommodating and during our out door cinema evening the rain threatened to stop play but your Cowry Club staff set us up inside to finish the experience with additional popcorn to boot. This is just one experience of the great customer service we received as you haven't got enough space for the rest... Can't recommend you enough!!

We stayed very well. An island with beautiful beaches, very quiet. Only one negative thing: to see the fish you have to take a boat, but you are rewarded what you will see. A thought for the Italian restaurant "Bottega", like being at home.

In relation to other rooms the worst, by far, have been mosquitoes. We have never been bitten, and this time it has been a suffering. We greatly appreciate the upgrade to a better room.

Kanuhura measures approximately 1000 meters in length and 200 meters in width, with a north-south orientation. It offers the best in Water Sports and diving. This resort has 80 villas, tastefully furnished with gypset sophistication and a modern touch. Featuring a bounty of natural materials, the villas are complemented by a private wooden deck stretching to the beach or over the lagoon.

Travel is by seaplane and is around 40 minutes from Velana international airport at the Maldives capital, Male'. The seaplanes, privately run by Maldivian Air Taxi Services, operate a schedule to accommodate international arrivals and departures. A private waiting lounge is available while you wait for your transfer to Kanuhura.

Amazing resort, as beautiful if not more so than the pictures. All staff were fantastic, friendly & could not do enough for you.Loved the fact that even on half board you had choice of restaurants & found we were never hungry in the day due to amazing breakfast choices. Main buffet option for evening meal had a different theme each day so wouldn't be bored if always eating in there, so evenings felt were more successful that others but outdoor 'meat' evening was spectacular. Food in Italian & Asian restaurants was always incredible. We luckily had an upgrade for our 25th Anniversary to a beach pool villa, so our room was even better than we expected, there was nothing else you could have wanted in it, from the sarongs & beach bag they supplied to the toiletries. Loved the bathroom with outdoor shower & the view is priceless. Resort had great facilities, played Squash & made use of the games room a lot as was air conditioned. Using the bikes to get around was fun. The other Island you can visit whenever you want is a deserted & even more beautiful hidden gem, we often felt we had this to ourselves when we visited. The snorkelling is great & amazing what you can see even without going too far out (as I'm not a confident swimmer). The memories made here were incredibly romantic & special. The resort is 5 star but it is understated & relaxed, nearly every guest was barefoot & dress for dinner was v.casual as well. Will definetely return & met other couples who had been more than once & said it was one of the best in the Maldives.

Kanuhura is the most beautiful island in the Maldives! Top staff, top food, top infrastructure, etc. everything is great here. You get more for the money here.
We stayed 10 nights and we never got bored, because you can go to a lot of activities (snorkeling, diving, tennis, kayaking, etc.). The villas are also a dream. You are right on the beach and you practically have the sea to yourself. Although there are over 200 guests on the island, you don't feel it.
Everyone outdoes each other when it comes to food! Every evening there is a special themed evening at A Mano. For example there is Asian, then Indian or something from Iran. Simply TOP in culinary terms! If you don't feel like a buffet, you can have yourself served in the other restaurants (Bottega / Veli). and here comes the biggest plus of Kanuhura ... the staff! Really every employee has understood what this is about. all employees are very courteous, friendly and helpful and that makes your stay on Kanuhura an unforgettable vacation! THANK YOU

We have come here 4 times since 2005 and always found it a wonderfully relaxing place.
The staff are incredibly attentive, polite and helpful.
It's not a place to come for nightlife, but if you want to relax and enjoy fabulous food there's nowhere better.

the bed linen could be a better quality. In the other Resorts we have been they had down feather bedlinen. In Kanuhura it was very sweaty
The noise of the seaplanes is very loud. Is there a possibilty that they land especially in the morning not so close to the island?
The housereef (where the seaplane lands) is such a nice experience maybe there could be more excursions

Amazing property, Superb hospitality, scenic...Words are short to describe this beauty

It was the perfect island holiday. Over water villa, our own butler and a good selection of restaurants. I should make it clear that we had full board with a drinks plan otherwise it would have been a lot more expensive! Worst of the year to go but we stayed 7 nights and mostly good weather.

It s close to impossible to find a fault with kanuhura. I certainly can t think of a serious one after having spent 9 days on the island. Everything was pretty much perfect: the location is heavenly, the service is at once discreet and proactive and the food is superb, achieving that most hard balance among variety, diversity, quantity and quality.

The island can be walked round and explored on foot (in fact one can spend a whole week barefoot) and beyond the coarse white sand and the crystal clear turquoise warm waters, the feeling, at times the awareness, of being the only person on the beach is invaluable.

The staff is efficient, discreet, proactive and will truly go the extra mile to make your stay not only unforgettable, but truly yours. Anything from getting you bathrobes and slippers of your actual size to understanding your schedules in order to replenish the fruit platter in your room at the right moment.



After kanuhura, I don t think I ll be able to go back to the classic seaside holiday any day soon!

We had a wonderful time with the lovely people on Kanuhura. Great food, great staff and a beautiful luxurious beach villa. The renovation was made superdecided, so that the style of the "old" Kanuhura despite many minor and major improvements has been preserved. Kanuhura is and remains our favorite destination in the Maldives. A barefoot island, which probably has a lot to look for. Luxury and relaxed holiday atmosphere at the same time - pure relaxation! Thanks to the whole team!

We have spent a wonderful week, the hotel is one of the past has many activities !!!! Even when it rains or you get bored, the super friendly staff always smiling, from the moment they welcome you until they say goodbye you feel very special !!, good quality of food, everything is impeccable and has wonderful details, it is not the first time I have gone to a hotel in Maldives, I must say that this one has surpassed the first.
The location of the atoll allows you to snorkel first you can see many fish, sharks and blankets as if nothing.
I highlight Mr. Director, Mr. Suresh Kumar, food and Beverage Manager who was responsible for coming to our table at each table to greet with our absolutely amazing name and surname.
We appreciate the work of Host Villa Cassi. We will definitely repeat.
