Beautiful place! Stayed there over Christmas and had a awesome time. Definitely want to go back!
A working ranch with horse riding, peddle boats, cabins, an open playing field, and guest room for hime cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinners. Reasonable rates.
Great place and not too far from town for horseback riding. Nice trail along Spring Lake with beautiful views over the lake, meadows and forest. Got to see a black bear on our ride! Friendly staff and well mannered horse.
Super fun experience and beautiful horses and scenery. The drive into the ranch took a bit longer than expected as it was an all gravel road.
Super quiet. Great horse riding and canoeing and swimming.
Went there as a camp counselor long time ago. Amazing place. My kids from the camp loved it. A great place to get away.
Was great place to get away from every day work and enjoy peace in quit of western style vist recommend to anyone that needs break from everything. Very great service nice People cant wait to get back there. Also very dog friendly my guy wish he could have lived there he was in paradise.
Very nice low-key location to relax and do some fun activities. We went in the winter and got to do sledding, skating on the lake, snowmobiling (brought in by us), and cross-country skiing. The cabins are minimal but cosy and well-maintained. The Host was hands off and friendly. The hot tub wasn't working, which wasn't ideal but certainly not a major problem; best to ask about it beforehand if it's a dealbreaker.
This place is absolutely beautiful and remote. If you want to enjoy nature and a peaceful mostly electronic-free resort this is the place to go. For awesome family times, great riding trails, and very good accommodations it's perfect. The owners are very accommodating and put the effort into making it a wonderful vacation for you. We were very happy with our stay! Thank you John and Myrna Barkowsky!
Beautiful country and horses, wonderful hosts, our 2nd time, will be back!
My husband and I and our 2 friends went to this ranch last weekend. As an experienced rider - It has been my dream to do a round up. I contacted the ranch and they advised of the date they were doing the round up so i booked this and invited friends. The accommodation was amazing, the food good but very tiny portions and not home cooked as you can expect from a ranch. Staff not overly friendly. At dinner we were then told that the cows were already in and that we would go out looking for the missing ones - This turned into a 4 hour trail ride. Had to change my horse after 15 mins as he was more like riding a mule. The trail was very very, very boring and the wrangler got lost several times. The other staff who were also riding with us kept to themselves and were not helpful or friendly at all. My friend fell off as her horse jumped over a big log as we had to detour and not one of the so called wranglers even asked if she was ok! Horses were ok but not very well behaved. We were trotting down muddy hills - which is not only dangerous to the rider but the horse. The wrangler just trotted and cantered not advising or asking anyone if that was ok - one of my friends was a beginner so could have been seriously hurt. Another area with a muddy bank my friend could not get her horse to go through - and until i asked someone to help her - they all just stood around and watched! Another member of staff could not get his horse to go and with his frustration hit the horse in the face from the ground when he mounted off! As a very experienced rider and a lover of all animals - this was the worst riding experience i have had in 30 years. I have been to many ranches over the years and never have i felt strongly enough to write such a review like this. Owner asked me when i got back hows it going - i replied its going - he then asked if i had a good ride - i replied no and advised that this was not a roundup but a trail ride to which he responded that we were looking for cows in the woods! As a business owner myself if a guest was not happy i would like to discuss with them - but it appeared they could not care less. We travelled 7 hours and stayed the night to be taken out on a trail ride - very shocked and disappointed. Never again!
Beautiful place to do horse back riding! They have so many wonderful trained horses. That was my first time to do the real horse back riding, but Zoe was very professional to teach me and train the horse. I was able to run on Gabby(the horse) at the end. We had amazing time on the horses and great view surrounded. We will be back again :) p.s if the owner can place new hamlets for kids would be great because one of them was broken and another one had big cracks on the helmet.
A fantastic place to swim, sleep, hike, paddle, ride, gaze at the stars, stop inside and find yourself again. The owners exude calm, serenity and a pleasant friendliness. Accommodation in holiday apartments of various sizes is very good.
Whoever comes here should definitely be mobile and also love nature. Mobile because the nearest shop is at 100 Miles House. (approx. 40 km) and nature-loving because you live right in the middle of it.
If I came back to Canada, i would come back here!
One of my favourite places on earth. Such a beautiful friendly place where you can really be in touch with nature. John and Mryna are both incredible hosts and cook amazing meals morning and night. The view of the lake from the dining area is just incredible too. I would do anything to return here in a heartbeat.
My Husband and I spent a night here on July 30/15. It was the highlight of our trip. Fabulous owners and staff, awesome accommodation's to sleep, great food and absolute beautiful scenery. I highly, highly recommend this guest ranch, and great prices to...:):)
I loved this place! It was wonderful seeing all the horses. Our leader, Sarah (sorry I might have her name incorrect) for the trail ride was great! Highly recommend this ranch. Beautiful setting and scenery all around.
Ensure booking in writing. This place obviously on posts positive reviews.
We had a fantastic time at Spring Lake Ranch! It was October, and the weather was cool, but we only had to deal with a little rain the day we left. This ranch is in an amazing setting and has tonnes of activities. The log buildings are incredible and very well kept. The private lake is huge, and there are canoes and row boats. We had a giant campfire one night, which was family time well spent. To be honest the best part of the trip was learning to ride. We couldn t get enough of the horses, and we spent a lot of time out on the trails riding. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Before we had finished packing, we were discussing making it an annual trip!
Friendly staff, trail riding was fun. Best part was there was no socializing on the trail ride and you were able to hear nature, fully enjoy it. Only issue was the window sills and dishes had to be cleaned. Other than that the most relaxing place I have stayed. The games room was also a nice touch with the fire.
We went out for a horseback ride, and ended up staying and having the most relaxing weekend in ages. The horseback riding was amazing, the wood stove in the chalet was a very nice touch for this season. John got on his tractor and spent an hour plowing the road to our chalet we booked at the last second, then his wife made us lunch, they spent hours filling up their hot tub barrels, heating it with wood. We had amazing meals, I dont think you will find a better cook then Myrna!
The most relaxing, soothing weekend we have had in years. Will be going back many more time!
Thanks again to John, Myrna and the staff!
Had an amazing experience. Owners are so nice and welcoming. They are very helpful as well. Our car got stuck in snow and they pulled us out without any hesitation. Make sure you are having winter tires/chains for winters.
Friendly owners, very quiet, beautifully situated by a lake.
Exceptionally welcoming and accommodating place. Will go again time permitting. Stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed every minute. For those who seek serenity.
Despite super friendly managers couple, the stay in the detached house was not easy. Especially the very numerous flies present made every effort to disturb the night's rest.
Breakfast and dinner in the main building (ranch) are perfectly arranged.
There is a trail around the lake, but more suitable for walking with horses.
Wonderful experience horseback riding. Beautiful place and very well maintained.
Beautiful, peaceful, idyllic, friendly and welcoming. Thank you so much for the lovely stay!
I called and booked a chalet suite for 3 nights. The elderly lady confirmed it and took my credit card details to hold the reservation.
I arrived at the farm on the 14/09/2018 and it was lovely. The way to get their ones you pull of the highway....interacting with the cattle standing on the unpaved road was funny.
Once I got there it looked so lovely - a nice ranch with lots of horses surrounded by a beautiful lake. My suite was also quite lovely. But that's it, what was positive.
The old couple who own this place John and Mirna weren't there the first night. So they put the well-being of the farm in the hands of 10 young girls from Germany aged between 18 and 24.
The next morning I got hold of the old lady Mirna, who seems quite confused to me, to ask her about my booking. And then she told me, that she only booked me in for 2 nights, because there are guests coming who vome every year and she couldn't say no to them!!! Honestly...that made me feel like a guest 2nd class and why didn't she told me that on the phone when I booked the nights. And if I wouldn't get hold of her this morning, she probably wouldn't have told me that. She didn't even apologized for that!!! So I had to find a place to stay for my 3rd night and she didn't support me at all.
Another point: save your money for the dinner and cook yourself. The dinner includes salad, main and dessert, but the Portions are made for children or old People. So you won't get full by it. The same with breakfast.
What I also don't like that there are only Germans. The guests were all German and also the 10 girls there. I think that old couple should choose a mixture of different cultures, genders and also ages to work for them. But since they don't pay their wranglers any money, I think nobody experienced would come and work for them.
The girls are nice and horse back riding was alright but these young girls don't have a clue about that region, when I asked them some historic background for the Cariboo-Chilcotin Region. So John and Mirna could at least train them and give them enough food to eat, because they don't get more than the guests for working hard up to 15 hours a day without payment!!!
They also could inform on their Website that there is no reception or service at all and their guest wifi isn't working at all. So if you come here, make sure to let people know that you won't have any service for the next days.
So I wouldn't recommend this place. It looks nice but if you take a closer look behind the scenes...2 days were more than enough.
Had a great stay! The cottages we had were great. Great environment, great views. The staff was really friendly and did a good job at everything. The breakfast and dinner was well served and gave a real family feeling. All in all a really good experience!
Nice quiet ranch where they love the horses. One of the rangers Vera guided us on the lovely horse ride tour
Great prices, wonderful owners and such a beautiful quiet place to go and relax.
Excellent service, just off the highway with excellent views and activities to choose from. I highly recommend going just to experience the country. Today the served delicious minestrone soup and mozzarella grilled cheese sandwich. Beautiful
