I have just joined (free with my Medicare) and I m taking a very affordable water exercise class which is so much fun and is helping me get my strength back following knee surgery and rehab.

I usually come between 5:30 and 7pm (after I get off work). I like to warm up before I lift by shooting hoops with a couple friends. However, it is VERY hard to find an open goal. Volleyball constantly has half the gym. The gators gym is used for daycare. And the remaining courts are always overrun. PLEASE build new courts. You are in desperate need of them. Not to mention a new adults only league that consumes a court twice a week from 5-9:30pm. You are running out of space and people are noticing and talking about it. To immediately help with this issue I think you should move one of the volleyball practices to the gators gym and put the daycare kids on the other half of the gators gym.

My doctor recommended water exercize for my arthritic knees over a year ago. I stopped by the YMCA on Horsepen Creek because it was close to my home. I was under the impression that I could get a tour and observe the pool area. The 2 girls at the front desk were in a conversation, totally unaware that I was there. When I interrupted them and asked about the water exercize program, I was given a brochure.. at which point they turned away and continued their conversation. I walked out and have not been back. Totally rude.. but I'm going to try again because I need this type of exercize.

Protect your children and keep them away from the Spears YMCA.

This YMCA has numerous problems. In last year s Fall soccer season an opposing coach shoved a young boy IN THE LINE TO SHAKE HANDS AFTER A GAME. There are numerous other incidents with a certain divorced male soccer coach who, among other things has screamed at an opposing coach during a match to shut-up. This coach also dispensed unwanted hugs to a female soccer player who did not like his actions. In response, this coach said, I m just gonna have to work on you. Most parents do not want a coach to work on their daughters.

Two referees have admitted they would cheat in games. One of these referees even admitted this on film. Just Google Spears YMCA and look at the YouTube videos under the videos tab. And, oh yeah, the divorced male coach has a contact from GUSA who recruits club level experienced players to play on his team against many of the recreational level players who are just learning to play. The administrators at Spears have allowed this conduct with the soccer program participation dropping in tandem with these egregious actions. Kids do not want to be cheated out of a season for the ego of some lonely, divorced guy.

Aside from the creepy coaches and referees, there are creepy staff members inside the Y. One spreads false info that exercising with light weights stunt the formation of growth plates in kids. She nagged us about allowing our kids to use the free weights. We did as she instructed even though the American Pediatric Association has reports which dispute her incorrect beliefs. She restricted the weight machines the kids could use. Even though the kids only used those, there was a Y employee who watched us from 10 yards away as we worked out for about 15 minutes straight one Friday night. She just stood there and stared. It was like she was our FAMILY STALKER. Finally I had to tell her that she was making my wife and kids uncomfortable. We just used our weights at home after this as it was just too much of a hassle to deal with the strange employees.

There are better choices in Greensboro for families and, quite frankly, for anyone who is normal. Keep your kids safe and away from the creepy coaches who push and scream at children, and the staff who stare at you as you work out.

There are numerous positive reviews that have popped up after these problems were brought to light. Perhaps numerous people decided in the last week to give five stars to Spears or perhaps Spears instructed employees to try to combat the truth. It is up to you to believe them or not. It is also up to you to protect your family from bad people. All of the events detailed in this review are true. I am a real person. Protect your children. Keep them away from Spears.

Spears is a great place to work out. The people are friendly and there are a multitude of classes to choose from. My complaint is that you have to pay extra for the aquatic exercises. After paying a monthly fee, I do not feel like anyone should have to pay extra for any classes except for personal training. I have been a member of other gyms and aquatics was included.

This is not a review on the actual YMCA indoor gym or facility. This is a great recreational sports facility except for games or practices at night in the fall when darkness falls before 7pm. There are no permanent lights available on any of the fields except for portable generators they may bring in. Even then, this is not adequate lighting for football or soccer and the are not provided on all fields.

The Spears YMCA is conveniently located near the Battleground-Horse Pen Creek intersection. It is open from 5 AM to 9 PM on weekdays, has a complete gym with free weights and machines as well as an indoor pool. They even offer free coffee in the mornings! There are small lockers available for your phone and keys and full size lockers in the changing rooms. Water fountains are spread throughout the complex and most are fitted with the option to fill bottles. The YMCA offers classes such as swim lessons, spin classes, etc. and personal trainers are also available. Childcare is offered at certain times and weekends have different times than the weekdays. The kids area is divided by age to prevent smaller children getting knocked over by larger kids playing. A very good resource for the active individual or family.

Please change your guest policy. Walked all the way over to the gym, about a mile and was unable to purchase a guest pass. Was quite embarrassing. The lady said they had posted it on the wall months ago...but if I m not a member then when would I have seen it posted on the wall? Waste of time and will not be bring in my money to YMCA ever again. Awful customer service and experience.

Spears, like all Triad YMCA facilities are well run. Clean, with lots of classes and exercise equipment for all needs. The staff are friendly and there is a real sense of community that runs through everything.

Recently a mother picked up her baby from this facility and it had welts on its skin. Why are the police not investigating this place? This Y smells, the parking is terrible, and it is crowded during the day with a lot of old people like me. Oh, and they have Y employees write a lot of the fake reviews on their FB page.

The most terribly organized youth basketball league. Signed up for an all girls league but was put on a co-ed team. No worries, but there was ABSOLUTELY NO communication. Some teams had 10 kids, others only had 5. The director would not return calls or emails to discuss any resolution. The kids on the team with only 5 could have been moved to other teams. As a result, some games were forfeited when all 5 didn t show up or the 5 kids had to play an entire game while other teams they played got to rotate in fresh players. When the season started our team didn t even have a coach. This is the most poorly organized youth basketball league we have ever been a part of and we will not be back. Sad thing is is that the more people we talk to say that this is the norm. Unfortunate on so many levels- especially for the kids.

The youth sports programs at Spears YMCA are amazing! Everything is very organized and professional! My kids have learned a lot during just one season at their practices and games! We will def. be playing sports at this YMCA for a long time to come!

Parking is difficult, but that is kind of a good thing because you think it is popular for a reason. The problem is if you go during the day it is crowded with lots of old folks. I hope to be old one day so nothing against them, just telling you who is there. The problems with the front desk people are unending. It should not be that hard to process paperwork, really.

Was good but just infuriating currently to deal with. Our card expired and we were not notified and the lady at the front said we were. Then she charged us for an extra month to reinstate which was ok but a $20 service added to it plus pay through the current month for them not notifying us. We could of taken care of it had we known they were drafting off the card instead of our bank account. Seems to be an issue with all the Greensboro locations. I personally think the entire Greensboro Organization is mishandled. The sports programs at other locations are complete garbage and here they are sightly better but they hired the some of the staff from the other locations so it s only a matter of time. I registered for swim lessons haven t heard back. I know there is a wait list but a simple call would be nice since I ve left them messages.

Update: The staff here are horrible we will be canceling our membership before it can auto renew!

Love the private (individual) swimming lessons. My son has been taking lessons since he was about 18 months old and he is 4 and can swim the full length of the pool. The instructors are patient and kind. Ms. Olivia is the BEST!

The gym facilities are great with equipment being replaced regularly. If you re a swimmer, this location could prove frustrating due to the the monopoly the local swim teams have on the few lanes it offers. I d give this Y a four or five star rating if it weren t for the after school child care. The pick up is super convenient. The staff are friendly enough. However, with most of them being young- I feel they aren t empowered enough or invested enough to seriously monitor the kid s activities and take corrective measures.

This is ONLY for the WEIGHT ROOM as everything else seems to be updated and good to go! While there are plenty of equipment and options, there is also lots of old stuff that needs fixing and unfortunately when fixed...is not fixed properly! There are multiple pulley machines that are uneven due to replacing original parts with different size parts. There is also dried spit and smears all over the mirrors. People do a wonderful job of cleaning the equipment when they are done...but the staff needs to step up and do a better job of cleaning their areas. I have been to a lot of Ys outside of Greensboro and for some reason, the Ys here seem to put zero money into upgrading the gyms. Seems like all the donations go elsewhere! As Greensboro evolves and more fitness minded people move here, this weight room is gonna need some money dumped into it!
