Great customer service, best lawn care products. Adam has been extremely helpful and patient advising me over the last year with any questions I have had.

More selection in this store than King William. However King William store has higher sense of customer service.

Whenever we have a serious problem with our lawn or garden or garden pests, we head to Southern States. In addition to sound advice, they offer live chickens and ducks for sale at certain times of the year, Stihl tools, seeds, soil testing, plants and trees, hay and straw, bird supplies and garden accents. The store is super clean and they offer lots of variety. Parking is easy. It can get busy on the weekends.

Clean store, well stocked, knowledgable pleasant employees. Garden center keeps the plants in super shape. Good variety in the garden center for it's size. They offer great customer service in the garden center as well. They have ordered a plant for me in the past, I dont know if that is a service they offer now.

We walked in and IMMEDIATELY I felt unwelcome. Several employees and not a one greeted us. No big deal...after all, it's the "prestigious" west end right? My son, his girlfriend, my little dog and I walked around because I'd heard that southern states was a great place for pets, especially dogs. Their pet area was small and filled with unhealthy choices such as alpo. There was a small clearance section (which I could only guess was clearance...no prices or explanations of the yellow sticker on items). I saw an employee walking towards me and I said "excuse me sir...could you tell me what the yellow sticker signifies"? To which he replied under his breath, "I have no idea--I'm busy right now". Ok seriously????? First of all, your store isn't so busy that you can't be respectful to customers and second, I'll never go back in there. When I took the products to the register, I asked the clerk to tell me how much each item cost with the discount. He totally ignored my question and began ringing things up. I said sir i just need to know the prices. He had to back everything up and proceeded to quote me prices that I'm sure were original. I just said never mind and gave him the treats for my dog. The treats, mind you, that were tagged 1.99 yet rang up 2.49. I brought that to his attention and he said no...the way the store manager explained that.. ..i just cut him off and said but it says 1.99 right here on the package. I finally just paid the 2.49 and figured I'd never again go to that southern states store. Save yourself a few headaches and go elsewhere. We also went to The Greenhouse on Mountain Rd. Their prices on plants and flowers were better. Their customer service was also superior.

High quality products at good prices. Experts at growing and caring for plants.

Best place for propane refills. Filled based on weight!!!. Buying elsewhere, you have no idea what's in a tank (half filled, 75 % filled, 80% filled), status of valve, etc.

I feel much better and safer with a tank that's been under my care and known history.

This southern states on broad st has a tiny parking lot, so if you plan to bring a horse trailer in, think again! The distribution area in the back is not friendly and gossip constantly in front of customers. I was not impressed.

I found on sale what i was looking for, plus a big selection of plants and flowers.

Do not go here to buy Stihl Products. Staff does not stand by your purchase and are not knowledgeable in its use. Go to Bradshaw"s small engine repair shop. They take the time to introduce the Stihl product to you and how it works. Also offer an oil change after 5 hours of use to protect your investment.

Great place to get bird seed, animal feed, gardening tools and other animal or lawn stuff. The variety is decent and the prices are not too bad in my opinion. The staff has always been very helpful and they've always seemed like they know what they are talking about.

They're very good on refunds too, so if you bought something that was contaminated or broken, they make it pretty easy to do a return.

The location is a little awkward to get into since it is not at an intersection, so you will need to be heading west on Broad Street to get into their parking lot.

The store itself is starting to show it's age and sometimes when you go in, there is a strong odor of various things. It's hard to describe it; some people may not like it.

I highly recommend them if you are looking for a decent place to find any of the things I listed. This is especially true if one of your hobbies is feeding wild animals.

As a mom, I love shopping at this place! So much to share with my kids. They have a nice size bathroom (no changing table though). And the staff is pleasant and helpful. The lady in the outdoor plant section has been working there for years. She's very knowledgeable!

I love coming here every spring for my garden. Their plants are very healthy.

I regret not catching the gentleman's name who helped me, but I got advice on grass seed and a bale of straw in about 3 minutes. He was helpful and knowledgeable and I'm thankful I ran into him.

Staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, especially the Stihl mechanic Marshall. Great shopping experience!

This store is rudely kicking people out if they are not wearing a mask even if the person explains they are exempt from the mask order due to a medical condition, violating their civil rights. The Goochland store is not. Along with majority of Richmond area businesses. The governor does nit even follow his own order.

My experience in one I will enjoy again on my next visit.

Southern States is a good source for home and garden supplies. Everyone here is helpful and knowledgeable. Southern States is dog friendly.

You can get all of your home gardening stuff there without any problems at all

I like that they carry all kinds of things for the yard that you will not find at home improvement stores. Friendly and helpful staff. The little chicks are for sale right now, and they are cute!

dog food and cat food are high quality and cheaper than petco, petsmart, and even Chewy!

Love the awesome store staff at our favorite West Broad location. Buy all our birdseed, mulch and summer herbs and vegetables to plant at home from them.

We have always loved Southern States especially chick days and when the chicks finally did come the prices whent sky high! The deals on chicks have also changed their deals on chicks! You can no longer Buy a 50 pound bag of chick feed and get 6 chicks free. We aren t even allowed to touch the chicks I get that they are worried for the chicks safety, but there s never been a problem.The management has truly changed and not for the better. We may have to take our business to Tractor supply because this is ridiculous!

Great place. The employees are very friendly and helpful. And for the guy s review about wearing a mask, the store employees have rights too. They can kick you out for not wearing a mask because they are concerned for their health as well!

SOUTHERN STATES has been my go to store for advice and lawn maintenance products since 1990. Also, I buy most of my bird foods at the West Broad Street location (23294)

The guy in the Stihl section is pretty awesome.. he took the time to explain everything about the chainsaw I bought.. pretty good deal too

Southern States is a fun place where I am flooded with childhood memories. It is a great supplier of farm and home items. Ask about the baby chick seasonal sales.
