This office only seems to care about finding just the slightest reason to reduce or cancel benefits. I am actually at a point where I'm afraid to speak with anyone or seek any care with the VA because ever since I moved to Portland if I seek care they reduce and cancel all benefits related to the issue I sought care for. Then if you don't seek care they say everything must be fine so they reduce or cancel benefits.
Aviod this office if you are seeking benefits. You'll receive better assistance elsewhere.
This is the most inefficient office I have ever been to. The staff is unprofessional, and rude. When I arrived I was told to fill out a piece of paper and wait cause"I'm on my break, so you gonna have to wait this out".
These people don"t care about veterans, their service, or their families or the impact that their actions can have on them. This office should be brought under investigation for mishandling veterans benefits, and caring more about eating pizza and watching the price is right. This office is an embarrassment to the entire establishment and what it is supposed to stand for. I wish I could give them a negative star. Anyone who has had the same experience I had should call and complain like I did, so finally these people can be fired and have an actual professional staff brought in.
The 1800 number loops and hangs up if you press a button. so a big "F U" to veteran's needing help

One can find bullies on the street without having to pay for parking and having to find them behind armed security.

The VBA here in Portland Oregon has staff that are friendly, but if you have issues with problems that occurred during your time in service. I got an OTH. For those who don't know what it is, it is not Dishonorable. I'm not seeking attention, but I think that attention is what is needed.
I served during Desert Shield on the USS INDEPENDENCE CV62. I arrived on station 08/29/1990. I was attached to VS37. I was sexually harrassed by AK2 Tattoo with VF21. What the government should have done was dismissed him. I asked my command 10 times for a transfer. No can do.
So long story short ffw to 3 years ago I was told that if I wanted any benefit from them I had to say I was gay.... That came from a DRO ( Decision Officer ). I get humanitarian assistance from the Hospital. But nothing for the disabling effect on my life that has occurred. Yes I have mental health issues, but I am solving them better on my own. The VFW VSO are nice but do not have the time nor the funding to help all of us. I don't have $3k to change my discharge. I don't like wasting my time and money or theirs, but I do have a claim that should be taken care of by our government entities that care for us whether we have the type of discharge and disabilities that show later in life or while we were in.
Well, once through the metal detector and past the not so inviting front desk I was able to see a person about my situation. He gave me great information and what my best steps are. I highly recommend getting a representative if you are try for disability. They are free to veterans and will fight for your case. My case is unique and hopefully it will get resolved. The guy at the front desk still didn't understand or know that I got all my questions answered. He played it off thinking he knew everything and that this was all my fault. Dude, you made me laugh so much. Thanks!
I've been trying to find out where my benefit check is. And why it isn't here. No recourse to get information, a never ending wait time at the only # to reach anyone and then they hang up after you've waited 30+ minutes on hold. Frustration, and I can't imagine what someone with PTSD is going through.
